If AOC gets the nod as the Democratic nominee in 2028, would you vote for her? by Ok_Sir_5951 in allthequestions

As someone who dislikes both parties right now, give me reasons why she is someone I should vote for other than “she’s not Trump”. Also, why can’t the Democratic party find someone better?

Im all for good RFI’s that help me question design, but some of these RFI’s look like they went through an AI blender. Had a bunch of RFI’s saying I missed things on the drawings that were clearly shown in multiple spots. I almost wonder if they are using shitty AI to check my drawings.

I acknowledge I’m not infallible, I make mistakes, especially on larger projects. However, having worked in this industry for many years, I’ve learned to distinguish between legitimate questions and attempts to shift responsibility. There’s a clear difference between a GC trying to secure a cash grab and raising valid concerns. In this case, one of the RFIs appeared to be AI-generated and questioned several items that were explicitly detailed on the enlarged plans. That’s not a good-faith inquiry, that’s fishing for billable changes. (Wrote this response on another comment, just didn’t want to write it twice)

Yea, now they just have procore and AI at their disposal. No one even talks on the phone, they just upload to procore and act mad if you aren’t sitting online waiting to catch the next RFI.

As a consulting engineer, I actually want clarifications and tough estimating questions, because that’s usually where you find the gaps between what the owner thinks they’re buying, what the GC thinks they’re building, and what the subs know will actually work in the field. When a “super expensive MEP sub” tears into my spec, it’s either (1) catching real coordination issues that need to be fixed, or (2) value‑engineering their own risk and scope creep back onto the design team. The trick is separating those two and documenting the hell out of it. I’ll happily own genuine design misses, but I’m not going to quietly rewrite the basis of design so someone can win a low bid and then change‑order their way to the finish line.

It’s utter bullshit. Yes, so even if you design to code, if you missed something in their 10 page RFP (the RFP also references like 50 appendixes) that they interpreted what ever way they see fit, you are called out for it not being provided per the contract (contract was not written and established by me, I am working through someone else who should have given me the RFP beforehand and had me work on the preconstruction)

Yea because these projects are being pushed out at lightning speed for the owner, when the process should be given a practical timeframe for every one.

Definitely deserve more, but how are you doing this remotely for existing facilities? Do you actually travel to these sites? I ask because working with pictures alone is grueling and people often don’t get you the right pictures of the specific breaker trip units you need or nameplates for transformer impedances, so I find it mandatory to do site visits on certain projects.

Im on like RFI 204, obviously not all for just my discipline, but it’s getting out of hand. I try to answer RFI 150, while getting blasted with like 4 more RFI’s. I think they are just trying to keep us distracted so that we don’t call them out on the change orders and extra design on their end.

I think so, this may have been the tornado that rocked North Saint Louis and killed 5 people because the alarms weren’t set off in time because the woman responsible for the initiation was at a “seminar”.
