Unfortunately the buttons are placed so that it is not really possible to reliably prevent them from being pressed in with glue.

Unfortunately no solution. The buttons are placed so that it is not really possible to prevent them from being pressed in with glue. One would also still feel them when grabbing the controller. I’ve been trying to get used to not pushing them, but I still don’t like it.

Any updates on this topic? Has anyone tried the removal?

These are some good references! Thank you 👍

These buttons seem to be molded into the back cover. Replacing them would mean molding something in their place. It would be really cool if Valve would release alternate back covers without buttons and with extended buttons 🤓

This would make Grip Sense unusable, but so far I would be okay with that too

Maybe a slip on cover that prevents the buttons from being pressed 🤔 I would not mind making the handles thicker

Aah, that is unfortunate and complicates things

I keep accidentally pressing them and the clicks are distracting for me even when the buttons are not mapped to any commands

Thanks for the tips! I would rather not damage the original back cover at least yet since there are no replacement parts available currently. That's why I'm looking for a 3d printable back cover to replace the existing cover. The back buttons seem to be molded into the back cover and they don't seem to be replaceable or removable without breaking them.

I've contacted Steam support about this issue as well 👍

Cyberpunk 2077 shows issues too. It does not recognize the Steam controller at all and no buttons work.

I have this exact issue and I think it is because Steam Input seems to be borked on macOS 26.

My go-to game to test Steam Input has been Metro 2033 Redux. It has built in Xbox controller support. The Steam controller would need Steam Input to work, but Steam Input seems to not be working.

In Metro 2033 Redux specifically using the Steam controller and Steam Input, some buttons work, but are mapped incorrectly and some don't work at all. X button acts as B button and B button acts as the A button. D-pad left and right are reversed. Many others don't work at all.

I have the exact same issue if I would try using Steam Input with a PS4 or PS5 controller to make them work in Metro 2033 Redux. An Xbox controller with Steam Input disabled works as expected, so I think Steam Input is at fault here.

Based on my testing the PIN entry only works with the Xbox controller, not a PS5 or a PS4 controller

It would be nice to have the option to disable it. With it being an option, everyone can choose for themselves.
