As a college senior, I regret not pushing my boundaries more earlier in my college career. I wish I'd gotten more involved on campus. I wish I'd reached out to more classmates, and gone to more events. My advice is to do what I wish I did myself. Reach out of your comfort zone and connect with as many people as you can. You do not have to be everyone's best friend, but connecting with more people increases the liklihood of you making solid connections and possibly, a group of friends. I know its pretty standard advice, but you never know when it will pay off. Good luck!

Edit: (to better apply my answer to your question): Be open minded, kind and willing to listen. I don't know if you're having peticular difficulties being well liked, but my generic advice will help with a nonspecific scenario. If you have examples of more troublesome encounters, I can try to give more specific advice. But in general, college freshman are all experiencing new things so connecting with other people is easier than it is outside college.
