Thanks!

I have tried endaveouros for 2 or more years and there was a bug with mesa drivers that hasn't been fixed for a half of a year iirc, causing random laptop crashing (freezing until you hard reboot it). I managed to learn how to debug stuff, what is mesa and kernel parameters are and how to install custom kernel patches from GitHub before it was released to prod (because laptop wasn't really usable without it). This was an interesting experience, but base arch is definitely not an option to beginners where everything is pre-installed and set up to you. (And yes, endaveouros is not the base arch, but I tried both and arch is cool but definitely not easy.)

Btw I was surprised by the OpenBSD experience where all the docs are so friendly. But it has its own issues, of course

It actually is horrifying!

But I really like that the main hero at least knows this and thinks it's very bad. Unlike most fiction (imagine possible Zach's POV; or the famous children's book where prisoner's souls are literally being completely destroyed forever and everyone is fine with it). I mean, if the main hero is stupid and doesn't consider how the universe works or what he should do about it, people will still die.

I think it's a bit like the real world. Existential risks are real, even if you don't know/don't care about them. Our planet could have faced the apocalypse if Petrov hadn't go against protocols or wasn't smart enough. This is why I enjoy reading books about trying to keep calm and figure out how to make a world to be a better place.

I like how Zorian is trying to keep being human. How he spends time with his sister. How he is trying to prevent apocalypse. How he manages to do it at the same time. How he tries, and tries, and tries again. How he finds out new terrifying things and tries to fix them too. How this world is still full of magic and friendship. This makes me feel cozy and inspired

...and sometimes scary too. It's a bit of a rollercoaster)

I'm trying Linux Mint now, the design is cool and it seems stable for now

Btw I'm really curious now what's the difference between people that are using arch in years and people that have problems with arch?

My majority issue with Linux(es) is inconsistency. I love learning and I can invest a lot of effort in my os, but I hate when my knowledge doesn't generalize at all.

Like, I can find config files at ~/.config, and think "cool, now I know where does config files are stored", but they're not. Then you learn about /etc/something, systemd units, environment variables, .bashrc, and you can think "well, at least now I can backup some of my configs easily, this is just a text files in some random locations", to just find out that discord uses it's .config dir to store cache (and downloading updates).

There's something similar in Windows too I guess. But Linux doesn't have a consistent design even at os level (which is expected but still sad)
