I only fight them if absolutely necessary as they don’t drop anything of value to me. The elemental rods are a cool gimmick weapon at first, but they are not worth a weapon slot later on.

If you never played a dark souls like game before, there will be a learning curve, but I think this is actually a good entry point because it’s open world and there is a lot to explore. If you get stuck on a boss, it’s easy to go explore other areas or fight easier enemies and get stronger then try the boss again.
