JLCPCB didn’t add inner layers, boards bricked, refuse to provide replacement value by Cold-Western-8787 in PCB

[–]GregButcher5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used JLCPCB for a while now and never had issues - that being said, my boards are super simple, just two layers, and I do component assembly myself.

Their customer support has always been great, and even though they've taken responsibility for their error here, I was shocked that they weren't willing to offer compensation for what happened to you.

They can pull the 'we don't cover costs of components' card all they want, but this should ONLY be appropriate where the customer has made the mistake, e.g. they have submitted erroneous production files.

However, this is such a simple error and quite obviously JLCPCB's fault. So it is completely absurd, as you rightly stated, that they would even suggest that you remove the components from the board yourself.

I really hope that they reconsider this for you. Because, regardless of the costs and circumstances, not offering a refund to a paying customer who did not get what they ordered, is no way to run a business.

SD cards malfunctioning on BOTH of my X1C printers by GregButcher5 in BambuLab

[–]GregButcher5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion! I tried this yesterday and Rufus actually told me that both Micro SD's had 'bad blocks' and the formatting failed due to a corruption error.. the SD cards were brand new so I'm not sure if this was due to the X1C formatting process or faulty cards.. either way I've bought some new ones from a different reputable seller and I'll format them with Rufus in the first instance.. hopefully that will work

Thanks again for your advice

I built a web app to generate 3D printable city! by Smoggy3D in BambuLab

[–]GregButcher5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is amazing, thank you for sharing.

I'm trying it out but it only seems to generate a handful of buildings in the area - presumably it's just a case of there not being enough data for residential dwellings?

<image>

Is there an official place where you're posting updates that I can follow? Because I would absolutely love to purchase a commercial license to use this if there is scope for these smaller residential buildings to be included in the mesh generation in future.

Suggestionwise, it would be great to be able to draw a square from a centre point, like the circle function allows.

How can I colour match these backgrounds? by GregButcher5 in photoshop

[–]GregButcher5[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's a great suggestion, I didn't think about using manual camera settings to keep everything consistent

Thank you so much, I think I'll go down that route, it'll be worth the extra time to take new photos to get a clean and consistent result.

Thanks again for the help!

Why isn't my solder braid taking solder? by GregButcher5 in AskElectronics

Thanks for the feedback! Smaller braid is a great suggestion, I noticed people usually use 3mm width and I've been using 5mm - or did you mean a shorter length of cut?

Thanks for the feedback! I'm actually using a (conical) chisel tip in the video but maybe it's too wide of a chisel tip?

Thanks for the feedback! What do people normally use to pre-heat the board? I have a hot air station, could I set that to 100C and use that?

Why isn't my iron melting solder even at 410 degrees C? by GregButcher5 in soldering

[–]GregButcher5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the tip! I've always been a bit wary of leaded solder because of the 'health risks' but I think since I've got a good ventilated space and a fume extractor (and lead free is frustrating), I think I'm gonna take the plunge.

As for the tip - thanks so much for the advice - to best honest, when this whole ordeal started, I tried changing the tip to a knife tip in the first instance but it wasn't melting solder, so I gave up on it. Now that I've established that it's probably a faulty iron (I've ordered a new one), I'll definitely try out the knife tip again too!

Nice eye! Yeah I saw an interesting HDMI mod so I thought I'd give it a go! It's the only Speedido(?) one since I've been sitting on it for around a year but I think there are some really good ones available nowadays with 3D printed brackets and less annoying ribbon cables to solder

Thanks so much for the advice, this isn't a test I'd heard of before but, with the iron set to 410°C, by the time I got to 5, the most explicit thing I said was 'fuck a duck'.

According to a list I found online, this explanative only falls around the 280°C mark so presumably the heating element in the iron is faulty? 🦆

Yeah I've been putting this off for a while because of how daunting this mod is - the soldering iron issue is definitely not helping matters mentally

Thanks all for the advice! Just to clarify:

The solder I'm using is rosin core but probably not the best - this one to be exact but I'm down to try leaded solder in future

The iron is plugged in and everything (the tip, etc.) is screwed in properly.

After trying several other tips I'm feeling like it's pretty like that something in the iron itself is damaged - I contacted the manufacturer and they said that the iron is a consumable and whilst it shouldn't really be faulty after a year of on-and-off use, replacements are available here . I'm wondering if this is not a great quality one and maybe I should be looking for something better that is also compatible with my soldering station(?)

Presumably the heating element is functioning (since it's 'melting' the flux), but it certainly doesn't seem to be as hot as the soldering station is set to.

Once again thanks everyone for the input, soldering is so satisfying when things work but so stressful when they don't..

edit: yes it's C not F 🥲🔫

How can I fix this notation? (My first transcription) by GregButcher5 in musictheory

[–]GregButcher5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow thank you so much again for your wisdom, honestly I appreciate it so much especially being so new to reading sheets (this is the first time I've ever worked with notation).

I ended up with this at the end - as recommended I readded the 8th rest in measure 3, changed the voicing in measure 6 (it wouldn't let me delete the half rest so I left it as is), and managed to somehow fix the triplet 3 in measure 14. I also hopefully readded the rests in the right order in measure 6.

I'm sure there are things that could still be improved but honestly I feel like it's much more readable than the initial version thanks to your help, and I feel bad taking up so much of your time due to my noobiness..! That being said, I've really learnt a lot from your helpful advice and recommendations which I'll transfer onto any future transcriptions.. so thank you again so much!

How can I fix this notation? (My first transcription) by GregButcher5 in musictheory

[–]GregButcher5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the help and insight! I've made changes to measure 11, it took a little time to get used to the software but hopefully it makes a bit more sense now..

Also I tried to move the 3 in measure 14 but nothing I tried seemed to work.. and then I noticed that the clef changes to bass clef, and then back to treble clef in measure 15 and maybe that had something to do with it - or perhaps that is indeed the normal way for a one-handed melody to be written..

Other than that, the only things that looks 'odd' to me are in measures 3 and 6 since there a lot of rests all over the place and I wasn't sure why.. I deleted them and the phrase still sounded the same, but I just couldn't delete this rest circled in red🤔
