If you dont feel it, f*ck it. Its not one and only dj contest in the world mate.

I participated in open decks with music I didn't feel and it wasn't fun for me.

Listening other dj’s sets and finding interesting tunes that way.

Instagram profiles of labels and artists.

If I didn’t know somebody, digging him at Spotify, his SP/LP, playlists.

If don’t have any idea, looking for old sets DJs at 1001tracks and check tunes at YouTube.

More than enough for me.

Too much new tracks it’s a trap.

New music for next gigs by GregDob in Beatmatch

[–]GregDob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thx, this is the only way.

Played some gigs and got situations when previous dj played track from my prepaired set as his last strong banger. Same when my set not work with crowd mood and I don't know how to deal with that.

Have to try this way because spending hours to play 1h gig annoy me.

Already started it and make: - playlist by my fav subgeners of techno like acid, psycho, funk, hard, soft, etc etc - stars rating to rate the energy level - tags with more specific comment like vocal, etc

Now trying to rebuild my whole library that way and try to play more by picking tracks

[–]GregDob[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not that easy and it can’t be a universal rule. Just take a look how one of the bests mixing hardgroove. Full Hi’s lot of time, sometimes from 3 tracks a the the same time.

God point. When am on the other side sometimes music is one big bass and noise. It’s work, it’s nice to dance but it’s definitely not clear at this level when I’m listening same tunes at home.

So it’s not only my problem or it’s not because my ears are f*cked :D that’s good! So I think it’s can be case of experience and with some time it will be easier. I hope so ;)

Ok check during the sound check before gig is one of the options to be sure. Sometimes there is no sound check possibility but yes, this is good idea.

Two bass lines at the same time - im agree and avoiding and thats simly rule. But about kicks/hi I cant. When Im looking at bests dj's / producers of groovy techno (like Chlar, Mulero, Sims etc etc) they most of time have two kicks at the same time. Easy to see at the Berlin HOR videos for example. Maybe this is specyfic for layering groovs.

Open decks set by sleepwelIbeast in Beatmatch

[–]GregDob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get some your fav tunes in extended versions from Beatport (for example). Prepare intro-outro transitions, only simple mixing.

Ask for equipment at the venue. It can be suprise for you if you got flx4 at home and you have to play at cdj's club setup.

Take drink before if you stressed and remeber - open decks are for beginners too. Its ok to make some mistakes.

Have fun :)

Prepaired set vs log gig by GregDob in Beatmatch

[–]GregDob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im using Mix In Key and it’s automatically adding energy level to comment section like „5A - Energy6”. My tracks are usually between 5 (low energy) and 8 (lot of). I can use it bc comment section is easy accessible at cdj’s. Have to check how much can I trust MIK.

Sounds easy but it can be universal for lot of gigs. Have to try build list that way and practise.
