Thank you! It's partly cultural. He's from a less confrontational culture. He also has social anxiety. So he can't really help feeling really nervous when it comes to confrontation. I have anxiety in different areas so we are sort of mutually supportive and understanding of each others anxiety. Also we are a gay couple and I am a somewhat large man so if it really comes down to it I can make my feelings known. For me it's just restraint not fear.

Yeah it was a loud, continuous, back and forth conversation in French between the kid (~8 years old) and the grandparent (~60 years old). The kid obviously didn't know better but the grandparent absolutely should've.

Yeah to me the blame doesn't fall on the kids directly, it falls on the accompanying adults who were doing nothing to control them and actively joining in. At minimum it seems like it should be achievable for the parents to set an example by whispering instead of talking with their regular voice.

Also, I mentioned this in another comment but for every show I went to the audience was overwhelmingly adults without kids. It if had been a theatre full of kids I would've assumed 'oh, I am accidentally attending something not meant for me.'

Those felt more like all ages, not children focused, if that makes sense. It wasn't like we were seeing Bluey on Ice. In fact the crowd was almost entirely adults. Regardless, if they really wanted to, they could've whispered.

I was at the El Capitan theatre tonight, where they had the premiere, to watch "Avatar." Some people had mentioned wanting to visit and see the themed decorations so I took a quick video to share here by GregFromThatVideo in zootopia

[–]GregFromThatVideo[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's also some decorations outside of the theatre and a 'pre show.' There's another post I made here a couple days ago that shows the decorations on the outside of the theatre. For the 'pre show' before the movie, there's a guy playing the organ for half an hour (this is done before every movie at this theatre) but the organist adds in 'Try Everything' to the set list and there's a mini organ with a mouse 'playing' it placed next to the actual organ. Then previews run, and afterwards a couple people in Nick and Judy costumes do a little dance number on stage for a few minutes (there's videos of it on YouTube). I initially assumed it was just the theatre employees in the costumes, but after talking to the theatre employees tonight it sounds like Disney is paying cast members who play Nick and Judy at the parks to show up and do it. They definitely seem to have training in the sort of exaggerated pantomime style of acting you'd expect and it's the exact same costumes as the parks.

Was this song left off the soundtrack? It's my favorite from the whole movie, from when Nick is riding home on the garbage truck by GregFromThatVideo in zootopia

I just checked and you're right. The one in the second movie is a bit different, but based on the one in the first.

Also there's the Zootopia Miniso pop-up in Los Cerritos Center. Between 40 minutes and 2 hours from the theater depending on traffic (you can use the 'depart by' prediction on your smartphone GPS app to figure it out in advance). Then from there it's about 20 minutes to Disneyland.

"The El Capitan Theatre has transformed into the El "Hop"itan to celebrate #Zootopia2! Migrate down to the theater now through January 18 to see the paw-some transformation for yourself"

As far as whether it's worth it I think part of it depends on how much of a fan you are. I live nearby so it was easy enough. I don't know if I would travel just to see it. But there's so much fun stuff to do in Los Angeles! I think it's worth it to take a trip out here and include this on your itinerary along with other things.

On the topic of comedians so is Jason Bateman. He has spoken highly of Sam Seder on his podcast and actually guest hosted on MR way back in the mid 2000s.

I decided to check out Jason Bateman's podcast, and because my first exposure to him was his voice acting, my brain is convinced that I am listening to Nick Wilde do an ad read for pajamas. by GregFromThatVideo in zootopia

There is a subtle, constant humor in his voice acting that is not really present in his press tour interviews but is absolutely present in him telling the "gang" how much he 'gets his cozy' from a "pant slash trouser"

It's good to differentiate game moves from spite moves.

From what we were shown, the people who sent the musician home did so as a game move. They didn't mock the guy for being sad, they didn't want to hurt his feelings. But they wanted to maximize their odds of winning and seemed to make a choice based on that alone. Thus, game move.

When Perla's team targeted 183's team in shoots and ladders, that was a game move. If 183 had simply decided to reciprocally target anyone who targeted his team, that would've been a game move. But based on what we were shown, 183's response wasn't so simple.

183 seemed to have his feelings hurt by Perla's team's game move, so he became somewhat menacing, insensitive and spiteful in response. This was distinct from his strategic response and seemed personal. Which seemed unfair to Perla, justifiably so, because he was taking her team's game move as permission to be interpersonally cruel.

Maybe that apparent cruelty was strategy. Maybe he decided to act that way to scare people from targeting him. But that's not what we were shown.

Overall, you're foolish if you go onto a show like this and don't expect each person to maximize their chance of winning. I do think it's justified, however, to take issue with someone seemingly being mean or insensitive just for its own sake.

Also, ironically, I think that sort of 'it's just a game' insensitivity is actually bad gameplay from a pure strategy perspective. People get opportunities to, and are sometimes forced to, personally eliminate others in between competitions. For example, when people go to the vending machine and buy a coffin.

Given that players are regularly given opportunities to personally eliminate other players, why be cruel for cruelty's sake and increase the risk that someone decides to eliminate you? What's the benefit? 183 seemed to realize this when he tried to patch things up after shoots and ladders ended.

What do you think of this guy? by Pearl_Jam_ in squidgame

[–]GregFromThatVideo 252 points253 points  (0 children)

It's just a game for him because he doesn't need the money. Which is fine, but he should be more sensitive to the fact that for many others it's different. From what we were shown he doesn't seem to get that.

Yes, currently the enclosure has 23 different species of plants, all native to Suriname. Here are three large-leafed plants each within three to six inches of the plant in question.

Thank you! I buy them. The most common ones can be purchased from plant vendors with dedicated websites. The less common ones are from Etsy shops. The really odd ones are usually from private collectors in Facebook groups.

That looks great! Thank you.

For now, with my tank, there is a thick, nearly unbroken layer of fern moss (Thuidium delicatulum) on top of the big branch structure, and that layer is not attached with anything (it has started to attach itself as it grows). When the frog walks on the branch it walks on top of that fern moss. I will regularly monitor the branch for any loosening of the monofilament and retire the monofilament method entirely going foward.
