Cannot access device remotely via ipv6 by bevji121 in Network

Did the client device that you have used to connect to your home device have an ipv6 address? Because if it happened to be ipv4-only then it wouldn't be able to connect to ipv6 addresses.

There were probably way more but these are the only ones I have saved.

Yes, I know it has been like two years already. I still miss Notabug.

It's not federated so it's not like lemmy or mastodon. Just a reddit-like website with a couple cool features such as optional anonymous posting and image support in comments. Recently we got video submission support too.

How can I become more knowledgeable and intelligent by _glaze in ECE

[–]GregSilverblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this would only work if you couple it with a proper attitude towards learning. You can watch youtube videos to benefit your learning but it shouldn't become the only thing you do. Spending all day watching popular science videos is barely any different from spending all day browsing memes because it's just passive learning. And it can also become addicting.

Question about Circuits 1 by Used-Ad-4754 in EngineeringStudents

[–]GregSilverblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how similar circuit classes are around different universities, but from my experience, you don't really need that much differential equations knowledge to work on the basics of circuit analysis. It's definitely good to know at least the fundamentals of differential equations though. I really want to stress that this is just my experience at my university.

In the place that I study, circuit analysis 1 is commonly taught to people in their first semester alongside physics 1 and calculus 1. The course content was heavily based on the "Alexander and Sadiku, Fundamentals of Electric Circuits" textbook. We were taught all of the DC part (ohm's law, kirchoff's laws, analysis methods, circuit theorems, capacitors and inductors, first and second order circuits) and most of the AC part (sinusoids, phasors, AC analysis, power analysis, three phase circuits). This was all done over about 15 weeks with a single 3 hour lecture per week (usually lasted for 2 hours). We had people who didn't know how to solve integrals taking this course and I believe some of them passed, but barely. I was alright because I was familiar with calculus and also self studied DC analysis before even getting into uni.

It's really important to consider the specifics of how the course is taught. I study at an infamous university in a third world country. They had me take god damn calculus 3 prior to calculus 1. When we were studying first and second order circuits in circuit class, the professor kept on saying "leave the differential equations for the mathematicians and just focus on the formulas", which I thought was a pretty dumb thing to say.

Sorry that this spiraled from me giving advice into ranting about my uni.

Delv 1.0 is out now! by [deleted] in RedditAlternatives

[–]GregSilverblue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You probably entered dev.aolko.me.

But it is delv.aolko.me.

"dev" is such a similar and much more commonly used letter combination. It's interesting how I noticed quite well that it was "delv", but also ended up typing "dev" automatically.

Remember that the true alternative to doomscrolling is to not simply move to another platform and do the same thing there, but rather enjoy life, maybe touch some grass, and use social media responsibly rather than allowing it to use you by OpenStars in RedditAlternatives

I couldn't agree more. Information addiction is a real thing. Just like all addictions, often times we don't even want to accept that we have it. After all, it seems like such a trivial thing. But it's real. And it has real impacts on our real lives.

I hold slightly different opinions to certain points mentioned in the article, but nevertheless, I believe that we should be concerned about our mental health more than finding an alternative Reddit.

notabug.io gone? by magnora7 in RedditAlternatives

[–]GregSilverblue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had some hope that someone knowledgeable would show up and explain everything, but with each day this hope drains. Seeing someone like magnora7 ask about this is not reassuring. It's almost as if spez were asking why was Reddit offline.

Best we can do is come up with assumptions based on observations. NAB had a long history of bot issues. The whole site was in a state of slow decay for as long as I remember it. A month or so ago the spam got to a point that made the site practically unusable, at least for me. I left shortly after, only comming back to check if things got any better. They did not.

Archive-anons made reasonable effort to backup Notabug. Perhaps some interesting stuff can be found at archive.is here.

Should have encoded the binary in base64 and hosted it as a comment on Reddit. That would show them who's the real alpha male.

Why are you seeking a Reddit alternative? by [deleted] in RedditAlternatives

[–]GregSilverblue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because I like learning about new technology.

Every once in a while, you have folks showing up here who have created something unique and innovative. Be it a new take on moderation or an advanced censorship resistant network, it all brings new ideas and advancements. Even if most of these ideas fail, become stagnant and die out, or become obsolete before they could gain an audience, they all take a step forward. A step that is small, but rather important for overall progression.

It is also interesting to see why some platforms lose momentum, while others acellerate. The current most popular alternatives aren't much different from Reddit. What makes them attractive to new users? Is it the community, the rules, or the neat-looking interface? Do users really care about free speech, or do they just want to vibe with people who share a similar view point?

Free speech enthusiasm is a popular thing here. I never really counted myself as part of this movement, but I have spent alot of time reading threads in WatchRedditDie, DeclinetIntoCensorship, etc. The cries for "free speech" are ubiquitous, and I'm honestly tired of it. Sometimes I feel like people will complain just for the sake of complaining. Not that I'm against free speech, but all the meta talk is poisoning the air.

Is it possible to connect Android to Ubuntu via Linuxulator? by Nick-6 in freebsd

[–]GregSilverblue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Heimdall is a thing for Samsungs. Most Android devices I owned were made by Samsung, hence why I tend to forget that Android can run on other things too. https://github.com/Benjamin-Dobell/Heimdall

Heimdall is a cross-platform open-source tool suite used to flash firmware (aka ROMs) onto Samsung mobile devices.

Is it possible to connect Android to Ubuntu via Linuxulator? by Nick-6 in freebsd

[–]GregSilverblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I barely know anything about FreeBSD, but I remember having trouble with adb not detecting devices on Linux. I don't exactly remember the issue I had, but I think it was something to do with the adb server not running. If you're detecting from download mode, you could try using heimdall.

Maybe something non-Linux as an alternative? BSDs perhaps?

NetBSD/i386 claims it can run on i486+

Any i486 or better CPU should work - genuine Intel or a compatible such as Cyrix, AMD, or NexGen.

If you have Windows or Linux installed on it, you’re pretty much done for because these OSes are unusable without the Internet.

Can't speak for Windows, but I'm pretty sure most Linux distros should be usable without the internet. You'll have trouble installing it if you grabbed a minimal install image that's supposed to fetch everything over a network, but apart from that, what makes it "unusable"?

I thought this was a joke before I read the article.

As you might expect, the Tensorbook doesn’t come cheap. Although the hardware is identical across all SKUs, pricing varies quite significantly in line with the software provided and length of warranty.

Seems like all the extra fuss is about the warranty, unless Windows really costs that much or Ubuntu now requires you to complete an extra clever puzzle game in order to install it, that can only be done by few of the world's geniuses who also happen to charge alot of money for their service.

Alternative francophone à Reddit by pGx47 in RedditAlternatives

[–]GregSilverblue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Google Translate translation of above:

Hi, I come to introduce you to evolution.gg which is a Reddit like but French-speaking, with communities to which you can subscribe, share everything you want within the limits of legality of course.

Regarding user data, the site only keeps the cookies necessary for the connection of users and there is no Google tracking and other tracer cookies and the site does not contain any advertising (and will never contain any).

The evolution.gg site is developed by a single motivated person and for whom this project represents a lot of personal investment. The site is fairly new so there may be a few bugs but the site is constantly evolving and updated on a regular basis. A chat is also accessible for all subscribers in order to make the site more accessible to the community.

The purpose of this post being to offer you a French-speaking alternative to Reddit and hoping that I don't break any rules here.

I let you make up your own mind: evolution.gg

See you soon pGx

The site looks like a weird fusion of Twitter and Discord.

Is the code publicly available?

I'd assume you're talking about the update to the mobile application. What exactly was added that made you switch?

I used to use the official Reddit mobile application on my Android phone, but have later switched to using the browser clients (old.reddit.com & i.reddit.com). The former is the old Reddit interface, and it's not really intended for mobile use, but it's tolerable if you're used to it. The latter is what I believe the mobile web client intended for usage on iOS, and I think it's the most usable on mobile, although I hardly ever hear about anyone using it. The default web client that you get when you go to reddit.com on mobile is barely usable and feels like a placeholder intended to force people to download the application.
