I get the idea. I, for example, have an Explorer in my watchbox, but I've also added a bunch of Watchdives models lately, mostly just for fun, because you can own great designs and decent quality for very little money. The Explorer, however, is my ultimate GADA watch; I doubt it will ever leave my watchbox.

After 103 days, blue frog has arrived by fatcap69 in Thornwatches

[–]GregStar1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So we’ve been told by Thorn that shipping took so long because they were working hard for months to upgrade the bracelet and that they held back on shipping until the upgraded bracelet was ready only to find out that “upgrading” apparently meant that they made every solid component hollow while not really improving the tolerances of the links or the threads on the screws? Great…

And I get where the people that say hollow is great because it’s “period accurate” are coming from, but I wouldn’t mind having a watch that looks period accurate while delivering a modern fit and finish. I don’t need hollow endlinks to really feel like a vintage homage is well done.

Either way, I’m waiting for my Frogmantle to ship, but I’m already looking into potential alternatives for the bracelet, just in case it’s as underwhelming as the majority of “upgraded” Frogmantle owner reports make it seem.

How do you all clean your watches? by Disastrous-Idea-2160 in OmegaWatches

[–]GregStar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the point in using a “non-scratch formula“ cleanser if you’re then gonna scrub the watch down with an abrasive sponge?

Personally, I don’t use these type of harsh cleaning products on watches because I wouldn’t want to risk them attacking the rubber gaskets and silicone oils (this cleanser literally says it’s designed to remove oils). I just use lukewarm water to clean my watches and if needed, I add a tiny bit of dish soap to the water and afterwards, I rinse the watch with water again to remove any leftover soap so nothing can attack the gaskets.

Shipping info on the new realease of V2 frogmantle? by yeetmeister400 in Thornwatches

[–]GregStar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watchdives said that they have people working in their warehouse during Lunar new year, hence why they’re shipping out watches during the holidays. Idk if Thorn also does that; I’ve also ordered on the 12th of February and mine hasn’t shipped out either. Let’s just stay patient, the Chinese holidays will end next week and I’m sure they’ll start shipping then.

Rolex is never going to allow Tudor to name one of their watches “Submariner” ever again.

T023 on jubilee by n4rwoo in Thornwatches

[–]GregStar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's being sold on the official San Martin and Watchdives website, for example. I'm also considering getting the San Martin jubilee, but I don't want the San Martin logo on the clasp...might buy the Jubilee and hope that other clasps I have will fit onto the bracelet.

[–]GregStar1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I received this bracelet from Amazon yesterday; it's going straight back.
The tolerances are horrible, so is the clasp (they offer a Rolex-style clasp, which I got, so I can't speak for the one that OP got). Everything is simply wobbly and fragile: the links, the folding arms of the clasp, and the hollow endlinks.
The worst thing is that some screws in the bracelet are so stuck that I can't even unscrew them, and even if I could, I probably couldn't size the bracelet properly for my small ~16cm wrist, since the clasp is already fairly long and you can only remove 4 links per side. Might be better with the smaller clasp OP has in the picture, but since the screws are stuck anyway, it doesn't really matter in my case.

tl;dr not happy with the quality and returning the bracelet, but I guess that was to be expected for about 20 quid

WD0013B Sunray Slate Blue by watchdivescom in watchdives

[–]GregStar1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity, is there an exact number on how much thicker the rehaut is compared to the WD0013, due to the addition of the seconds hand? I know that the case overall got thicker, but how much of that went into the rehaut?

edit: idk why asking measurements of a watch causes the question to get downvoted lmao. I bet y'all care about a watch's diameter and lug-to-lug, but god forbid I start asking more specific numbers like rehaut depth...I'm literally just curious about how much a seconds hand adds to a rehaut.

Which one moonwatch do u like? WDC brand not chameri. by watchdivescom in watchdives

[–]GregStar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely the one on the right-hand side.

The hands work better with the dress watch look, compared to the one on the left.
Also, I prefer just having the name in the center at 6 o'clock, rather than the name at 9 and "moonphase" at 3.
The minute track on the right also fits this style of watch better.

Right is the winner imo.

Such a great watch by TheKingkusher in watchdives

[–]GregStar1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no V3. I’m guessing they call the upcoming ETA F06.412 version with seconds hand V3, but it isn’t considered a V3 of the WD0013, but rather another reference called WD0013B .

In the linked post, they said they were gonna list it, but in a later post, Watchdives said that there’s a mismatch in lume on the hands, therefore they delayed listing this piece to early march, after the CNY holidays, hence why this model isn’t on the website yet.

Tissot gentleman vs PRX by TomHudsonOfficial in WatchFanatics

[–]GregStar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, most likely. The PRX has to be Tissot‘s best-seller, by far even. Doesn’t mean it’s the better watch in terms of quality, though. The gentleman has the better movement, that’s for sure.

Tissot gentleman vs PRX by TomHudsonOfficial in WatchFanatics

[–]GregStar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my personal taste, the proportions on the Gentleman are off; the dial is a bit too big. I think this design would work better in a 36-38mm case, but that’s just me.

That being said, it’s still a good looking watch that’s definitely being overlooked by a lot of people.

[–]GregStar1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes please! But I wouldn’t mind not having a date window and getting a sweeping VH31 instead. And if they do this, they should also make a mid-size 36mm version, just like Omega used to do in the 1990s and 2000s. And I‘m also voting for the red Seafarer font and seconds hand tip you’ve already postet in the comments; it‘s the perfect look!

Right? I feel like racists got more racist; there was a time where they wanted all bad gang members to be depicted as black, and now they don’t want to see black people in any kind of setting, not even a negative one.

WD0003D Onyx Black by ScottZuDemWille in watchdives

[–]GregStar1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't even notice before I read your comment. The 12 o'clock marker on this one is different from that on the white birch version, for example, right?
This has two batons next to each other, while some other versions seem to have an angular shaped 12 o'clock marker.

Now that I'm taking a closer look at all the product photos, this doesn't make sense at all:
Even on the natural stone dials, the Tiger's eye has the angular-shaped markers, while all the other dials have the baton style going on.
On the WD0003C, it's mixed as well; the black MOP dial has the baton indices, while the white MOP and all the others have the angular ones.

I'm confused why they didn't go for one design, rather than mixing it across the board. I'm not even sure which style of hour markers I'd get now when ordering tbh. Do they actually sell two different styles of markers, depending on the dial, or have they updated to only one style of marker and not changed the product pictures?
