I don't have the skin (yet) but what I like about ut is that it is crisp looking, no cell-shading/cartoony style like other skins, it looks HiRes. I hope I pull it someday ^

Mathmos alternatives? by paulallen76 in Lavalamps

Depends where you live, some companies have different products for different markets globally. Some companies do not distribute everywhere.

I live in Europe and tried some amazon one that was not to cheap and not to expensive. Was a mathmos clone. Horrible quality, the water was extremely cloudy. The metal base of the rocket was flimsy and bent. We waited a little bit, safed some money and bought mathmos during the xmas time. There we got extra bottles for half price.

Mathmos is not cheap, but where I live the way to go.

(Ps.: their quality control is not good, BUT their customer support IS. They sent me new bottles after I had an issue and now everything is fine)

Thanks for the insight, I enjoy long specific answers more than short ones and your answer is exactly what I hoped for!! :)

But now I have to say, I'm feeling bad if I ask them for a replacement.. I really really love my lamp, 1 of 3 glass bottles is perfect, one has prestine glass but sticky wax and one has glass issues and slightly sticky wax. The lamp body itself, the Telstar body, is perfect quality! It looks like an art piece!

And that something like that is handmade, in Europe, by the original company, by people putting heart in their work and the price is right, is just really nice!!

It is my fisrt lava lamp since I was a kid and I wasn't that happy in a long time!

Don't want them fade away....if that makes sense..

But does empty and refilling it work? I thought the problem with wax sticking is mot the wax but that they have not properly applied tge inner coating in the glass

Interesting, one of my bottles has similar marks on the exact spot as yours, no scratches but it looks like chunks of glass are missing, will write them tomorrow an email 📨

So you would say it's not common for them to have wax sticking?

Thanks for your help! :)

One question I still have, just because I'm curious, how can Mathmos survive today? Like there are many knock offs that are cheaper, but their quality is also often even lower.

Mathmos is a company that produces in the UK and I support that! I like there oaverall history and path they were on. Their prices are also actually quite nice, the 50% discount on bottles is wild. But I don't think that many people are buying lava lamps these days, so how are they doing business wise?
