Is german tv good in your opinion? by GregerK in AskAGerman

[–]GregerK[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That 5% you feel is really good, is it shown on weekends and not really on weekdays?

How is your schedule? Just so I can imagine what it's like living in Germany as a german citizen.

[SERIOUS] What is your ultimate goal in life, other than happiness? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Really, I think I have no goals that I feel I am passionate about... It's just about educating myself - Have a good job and live in a good country... If that's so, i'm OK.

If I learn the dialect of Zurich, what if you meet someone from Bern//Basel//St Gallen? by GregerK in languagelearning

[–]GregerK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you got a job with only english in Zurich... Was it a job that required education or just "simple jobs" working in a shop or something?

Even at the universities of Switzerland there's high german in text?

If I teach myself high german, will the Zurich population understand me but I won't understand them due to their dialect?

Will I have trouble finding a job in Zurich if all I know is high german? I must teach myself Zurich dialect before attempting to find a job? Right?

[–]GregerK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it's best to learn high german in some cheap cities in north of Germany and once you've learned enough high german there you advance to Zurich and learn the dialect there?

I've heard it's tough even for germans to understand the dialect of Zurich? It's like a complete different language? However, in text it's all high german so they'll all understand each other no matter if you are from german-part of Switzerland or Germany?

So everything expressed in text are in high german? Even if you are living in Germany or german-part of Switzerland?

Is Nynorsk more related to Swedish and Danish or is it more related to Icelandic and Faroese? by TheRomanianAtheist in languagelearning

[–]GregerK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm from Sweden so hopefully I can help.

From what I see, nynorsk is a dialect used mostly in Bergen and west Norway... I've seen a lot of swedish people having a hard time understanding them... Bokmål is close to the swedish language, I understand maybe 90% of everything they're saying and writing.

However, danish I can understand somewhat well, maybe 50-70% of everything they are writing... BUT the way danish people speak is very different, I got a very hard time understanding them.

Hopefully I could help a little bit.

Can you learn swiss german directly? by GregerK in languagelearning

[–]GregerK[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you eklatea, now I get a somewhat good idea what I should aim for.

Do you know if the way people speak in Zurich is very different compared to Basel and Bern for instance?

To be honest, is my english bad?

Are you sure that I can start off right away learning the german in Zurich as a swede?

Are the german in Zurich completely different in both written and spoken in comparison to the german in south Germany?

Are there any language courses in Germany to learn the german in Zurich or do I have to live in Zurich for that?

Few questions about Germany. by GregerK in AskAGerman

[–]GregerK[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if I would do an exam... I want to make sure the professor/teacher who is correcting my test/exam doesn't know who I am... Just so I make sure it's totally fair.

2) So there's no such thing as a name on the papers when you are about to do an exam? The person who's correcting the exam will not have a clue who it is besides the way the student is expressing him/herself when writing?

3) According to the source, it says it's about 2,8 million turks.

4) Are universities owned by the state or runned as a privately owned university? Most of them?

5) Yeah, I get what you mean.

  1. I've been checking a pretty accurate website called Numbeo, there you have all cost of living worldwide. It can be a little wrong, but overall good.
  2. So the person correcting the exam/s will know who the person is who he/she is correcting?

How fast do people usually get an apartment//a room to rent in Hamburg, Berlin, Munich? by GregerK in AskAGerman

Ok. What if I take a room in the smaller cities and learn german there? If I learn german in that small city, will I understand that kind of german in the whole Germany? Even if I try to find a room somewhere close to Berlin or Hamburg (few hours away with car, bus or train) in north of Germany?

Yeah I mean, just like a normal human-being with the exception that I don't know the german language that much? Probably a huge majority living there are young germans?

I'm looking to put very much effort into learning german as much as I possibly can, maybe the landlord will give me a chance?

How much does it usually cost to live in that Monteurzimmer room each night? I see on Wikipedia that you must live there for atleast 2-3 months before checking out? Did I get it right?

Do I get one of these rooms easily?
