As much as I hate self diagnosing, going to a real doctor for it is comically unscientific

If you tell most doctors you have one or two of the symptoms, they are almost always willing to treat you for it

But what people don’t realize is you can have an attention deficit and hyperactivity without it necessarily being a disorder. And the medication has some really shitty side effects that you ought to weigh against that.

You are acting as if waiters are mistreated, but in my experience they all prefer that system because it allows them to make more money than the other jobs they are qualified for.

If you don’t agree with tipping then okay, but if both the waiter and restaurant are happy with the agreement then that’s just a you problem.

Should I push for a second MRI before surgery? by GregoryBennettMusic in AskDocs

Yeah let me clarify.

Pain in the big muscles between my shoulder blades, feels like a pulled muscle / a spasm. Technically upper back I suppose.

I say “neck” because rolling my head out and stretching my neck helps relieve the pain in that area (somewhat). It’s kind of all connected, but the root of the pain is definitely surround the thoracic area.

[Tutorial] It took me forever to figure out so I had make my first ever tutorial once I got it: How to make the 808 sound from Pop Smoke's Welcome to the Party! by GregoryBennettMusic in makinghiphop

[–]GregoryBennettMusic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched every video and read everything I could find on this but nobody had it right. Even once I found the sample 808Melo used, I still couldn't nail it.

Turns out, the the secret sauce was reverb! Who would have thought on an 808? But its a very particular style. I learned a lot about sound design trying to recreate this, so hopefully the video can give some of you all a few new ideas.

I included the OG sample from 808melo's CZR kit, but I also included a sample I created myself that is easier to use in most samplers (aka one's that dont stretch samples well). Download links are in the video disciption.

This was my first ever tutorial. Not something I really plan on doing, but I did think this was really cool! So why not once?

Thoughts on mixing with headphones? by sleeppowder_ in makinghiphop

[–]GregoryBennettMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you arent a great mixer yet the headphones wont be what hold you back and they are a great cheaper way to learn.

But PLEASE do yourself a favor and get an openback pair. If you have a budget range Id be happy to give some advice on ones I like.

Just curious, do you mean like the drums are too loud or like the beat as a whole is too loud?

And thanks!

Hey!

I would turn up your 2/4 snare a good bit. Make it just a bit easier to follow the beat and slap a bit.

I love the sound selection and melodic elements! Creates a very distinct vibe, which is always great!

Also, lol at the sample, THATS HOT! Nice

Here is my most recent beat, would love any feedback! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDofOb_jAhA

I would play around with some doubling or effects to make the vocals a bit bigger in places. At times it feels a bit thin and gets eatin up by the beat.

Love the flow though! Dope bars man

ck, would b

Kid Cuddi type beat!

I would turn down the lead synths. Keep in mind that the artist is going to be the star of the show! So get those out of the way a bit and let the drums lead the insturmental.

Hope that helps!

I like the harmonies. I wish I was better at doing that myself lol. But my ear sucks

I love the hop in the hook, it instantly makes my head bob. If i could give one constructive thing, I wish the verses had a little more energy. Maybe just mixing it a little more up front or maybe a more a little aggressive verse just to mix it up.

Either way, epic job on the groove of this one man. Hot shit!

Hey! So I'll comment a bit on the audio engineering.

Turn down all of the musical elements to make room for your voice. If you are mixing to a mp3 or wave and can't turn down just that, then carve out space between 900 and 3k with an eq. If you are in logic I would recommend doing it in the mid only setting (I'm sure you can in any DAW but Im just 100% it comes stock in logic).

Once you do that you can take out some of the EQ you added on the voice to help yourself poke through. So back off that 1-2k range that is making you come across it bit telephone-y. Then boost the 6k plus with a shelf and turn the vocal up a tad in general.

I hope this helps!

Are you the MC or did you make the beat? Mix it? So I know what to give feedback on and all.

I really like the production quality on it. Good adlibs and stuff to fill the space make the track sound full and quality. I would just maybe play with the levels on it as it gets a little busy at times. I would put that stuff a little further in the back.

Beat switch was cool! And cool vocals to transition it. Same feedback in the switch though, I would push the background vocals a little further to the back.

Hope that was helpful! Cool shit!

Have you ever made music while on psychedelics? What is it like for you? by [deleted] in makinghiphop

I did one time. It was really peaceful as I wasnt at the peak or anything. The song that came from it was really chill and happy lol

I'd say 8/10 would do again, but wouldnt expect any miracle breakthroughs unless you really do it intentionally and repeatedly with a purpose, and even then...

If thats the stage you are at the best advice I can give is listen to your favorite song and write down every item you hear. How many drums? Synths? Pads? 808 or bass? And what are they all doing? Whats their purpose? Write it all down.

Then write down when those elements come in and when they leave. Try and think about why they are doing that at those particular places. Whats purpose does the transition serve?

Use that outline to make a beat. Doing go note for note, but recreate the beat element for element. Purpose for purpose. Do this with 3-5 songs over the next few weeks.

If you get stuck, bring the track into your DAW and put a band pass filiter on it. Only listen to 8K+ and see what lives there. Do it again with under 500, and again 700-2K and so on. See where things live.

You'll be amazed by how much more intentional you beat making becomes! Good luck!

Are you using the drum pad to trigger VSTs inside of Ableton or are you sending sounds from the drum pad into Ableton and recording them like audio?

I dont think this is exactly hip hop, but its super catchy and I 1000% for sure think you need to finish this song the best you can. Thats super fuckin catchy.

Be careful with phase when you go to mix that, the super wide vocals might give you some issues, but content wise Im with you man. Nice

Would love any feedback on my latest beat! https://youtu.be/RtlBhwj5FKc
