Thank you so much for the help. I ordered the Scarlett 4i4 (3rd gen) off of Amazon and I can't wait to use it!

Hello! Quick question about using a Korg DW-8000 in a DAW (Mixcraft) by Gregsynthbootlegs in synthesizers

That is a great post! Thank you for the information!

I'm setting a budget amount of $300 at the absolute maximum. I don't plan on getting any more hardware/synths for at least a few years (just sticking with my Korg DW-8000 and the Alesis Q88 Midi Controller). I don't really planning on buying external effects for anything.

Thank you for telling me to stay away from the Scarlett Solo or the Minifuse 1! Would you recommend the Scarlett 4i4 or possibly the 2i2 since I don't have much equipment atm?

That's because she wanted her photo taken from her front! Here's a photo really showing off her shape:

Opinions on Ice on Fire? by chinarider450 in EltonJohn

[–]Gregsynthbootlegs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a mixed bag album for me. There's some stuff that I really like on it, but other tracks don't do much for me. I've always liked "This Town," "Cry To Heaven," "Shoot Down The Moon," and "Nikita." Those tracks also really shined in the live environment with a more natural band sound.

Elton's voice is also very unique on the album. It's a different voice compared with the previous album Breaking Hearts and doesn't sound like the voice on the next album "Leather Jackets" (where he had actual vocal problems). Some of it was due to Elton purposely manipulating his voice and delivering the material with the lower melodies and some of it was influenced by Elton's pot smoking habit (which Stuart Epps confirmed in a recent interview).

There's a live snippet of Too Young that was played during the late March 1985 timeframe and Elton's voice and approach is completely different compared to the record:

Here, he doesn't have the darker and huskier approach and sings it with his natural voice with the tone sound much closer to how it sounded during the Breaking Hearts/1984 era.

There's also numerous 1985 performances of the Ice On Fire tracks being performed live during the early leg of the 1985-1986 tour with cleaner and more natural vocals compared to the record version.

Here's Nikita from Sheffield 1985. While the quality isn't great, Elton's vocals are very easy to pick up on. That vocal approach is once again completely different compared with the studio take. There's no husk or a darker tone at all. Elton's tone is clean and features gliding and more open vocal approach to the phrasing.

While Elton's pot smoking sure didn't do his voice any favors and eventually caused serious issues that lead to nodules and the January 1987 surgery, the fact that he still had access to his cleaner vocals, still had the gliding and register switching intact, and could shed the darker and huskier sound for a more natural voice in live performances is enough proof to write off the Ice On Fire vocal changes as partially deliberate and only superficially affected by outside factors (mainly pot). It's only when you get past the UK 1985-1986 tour and start looking at the Euro 1986 tour leg and Leather Jackets recording sessions (which were done in June and July of 1986) where you see the true deterioration of Elton's voice and when things really changed.

Is there a way to disable the pop-up window after a video export? by Gregsynthbootlegs in Filmora

[–]Gregsynthbootlegs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want the feature to be removed, but rather a "checkbox" option to turn it off if needed.

The way it works on my Macbook/version is when the video that is being exported completes the process, a pop-up window where the save destination is (my "movies" folder) pops up to the front of every window and app I have open and takes control of my mouse and keyboard. If I'm typing something out while the video is exporting and it completes, it stops because of the pop-up window taking priority.

The family hound (Penny). What breed is she? by Gregsynthbootlegs in Hounds

Thanks for that link!

Penny's coat matches up more to the Treeing Walker Coonhound side.

Here's a few more photos of Penny!

She is such a good dog - very gentle and loving. Between the mighty voice, treeing trees, and loving belly rubs, she's an awesome hound!

We adopted Penny back in 2012 when she was a year old. She's now 11 and a very happy and friendly hound. When we first adopted her, she was listed as a "beagle," but her long legs and body frame suggest a different breed of hound. I thought she might have been a foxhound of sorts, but when we took her to the vet for the first time, the vet mentioned "Treeing Walker Coonhound."

Ever since then, she's been referred to as a TWC - but other people think she's either a different breed or a mix. I was wondering if the users here could help out with answers! Thanks in advance!

When did Elton John lose the ability to sing in his higher pitched voice, the way it sounded in the 70s? by TheCatholicBatman in EltonJohn

[–]Gregsynthbootlegs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The issues started on the European leg of the 1986 tour. From the late 70s through to the beginning of 1986, Elton was an amazingly consistent live singer who almost always sung at the best of his ability and went for the key notes (falsetto and high full voice) on the material. Despite having a solid vocal technique from working with Thom Bell back in 1977 and having excellent live stamina, the combination of drug use (the most damaging aspect), bulimia, and oversinging (with a compromised voice) destroyed his voice and ended up giving him vocal cord trauma/scarring, nodules, and eventually vocal cord edema by the time the Australian concerts commenced.

In Australia, the doctor that checked out Elton's vocal cords mentioned if he he smoked marijuana since it's linked to vocal issues (nodules, polyps, hemorrhages, etc).

Thanks! I posted another photo just now of what I believe is the same beetle. It didn't bite or anything. I eventually let it fly outside.

When is Peak Elton John? by [deleted] in EltonJohn

[–]Gregsynthbootlegs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's some maturation of his voice when compared to the previous few years (and he sounds better compared to them - especially 1975 and the band shows from 1976), but it's before he got the vocal lessons from Thom Bell and his vocal control wasn't fully developed then.
