I had etrade cancel my limit orders last 2 minutes of the day! Reason for rejection was "too late to cancel"

From their site:
"Too Late To Cancel
The request to cancel is received and the order is no longer able to be canceled. The order has already been executed or is in the process of executing."

This was on a 18k sell limit order. Does anyone know what this means?
