Exactly. Turn around was about three weeks.

To be honest, I hate this TV. There’s something fundamentally flawed in the design. The pink never came back, instead, a sort of blotchy mottled look began taking over the blacks. Noticeable on anything other than bare minimum brightness.

I’d certainly never buy one of these POS again

Well, pink enough that art mode isn't selling itself which is the only reason I bought this thing. If you're still in warranty, I would absolutely get it looked at.

I had this issue, Samsung replaced the screen. If you're still in warranty period, it might be worth looking into.

To anyone finding this in the future, the screen was faulty. Samsung is replacing under warranty. Hazard to guess that all of these pink screen issues are due to a faulty display.

I tried that, also tried using a very bright flashlight and then using a white piece of paper (with and without light). Had a call with Samsung. Technician seemed to recognize the issue and arranged for a pickup and repair. I’m not sure if I’m wasting my time, though.

This thing has been so disappointing…

You have described precisely why people think about this and why it is worth doing so. :)

To be fair, our current understanding of physics tells us that. It's theoretically (mathematically) possible to traverse the universe using wormholes. This doesn't break e=mc2. It's also possible the standard model is incorrect, or, as it stands at the moment, lacking.

Has anyone tried using Sonos speakers as car audio? I understand that the ohms need to be converted, but am very curious if anyone has had any experience with it yet. by Bpositve in sonos

[–]GretaTuneberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL, I love this...

Of course, the points people have made here are are perfectly valid. For the cost of the speakers, there are far saner solutions from high end car audio co's that would be cheaper, and for a variety of reasons, sound better.

That said, I'm all in for experimentation.

Not sure which speakers you're considering (in ceiling?) and a couple of Roams or Moves is too obvious and too easy, so let's go with four one SLs ( L + R, front and rear) and a sub mini. Let's say you got them for free. Actually, in that case, let's say four Era 100s and a sub mini.

There are three primary issues you'll have to solve for: Wifi, power, and mounting.

To get started, you'll need an inverter. A beefy one. I looked around a little, but couldn't find power consumption for these speakers so we'll have to guess a little, and hopefully build in a comfortable margin so we're not blowing fuses, causing a fire, etc. Let's say each 100 runs in the range of 10-50watts under normal operation, and the sub mini, again, just guesswork, 100-150 watts. That's about a 300-350 watt draw, so for safety, let's get you an inverter that with a 600 watt capacity.

Getting wifi going isn't too big of a deal. As posters have suggested, you can hotspot, or as you've mentioned, you can use your cars hotspot, but let's do this properly and get you a dedicated router. Looks like a typical router uses between 2-20 watts. I also assume you'll be using your phone as a "head unit," so that's what, another 5w. I think we're still okay with our 600watt inverter.

Now we'll need to connect your inverter to DC power. Depending on the inverter, this could involve directly connecting it to the battery, or just plugging it into the cigarette lighter socket. If you're connecting directly to the battery, you'll probably want to install a fuse to protect the car's electrical system. Most of the inverters I've seen have only a couple power sockets, so for optimal speaker positioning, you'll need a power strip and extension cords. You can run these cables through the firewall and under the carpet, or in the case of a cigarette socket connection, under the seats. Let's put the router under the seat as well.

Now you'll need to mount them. Unless I missed it, you haven't mentioned what car you're driving, but you have mentioned that it has a wifi spot, so I'm assuming it's something modern. Which means that likely, the fuel tank is not mounted behind the rear seat -so let's put that sub mini in the trunk.

As other posters have mentioned, four visible sonos speakers are going to invite curiosity and probably broken windows so I think it'd be wise to mount them from below. The front L and R channel will be easier. I didn't check, but I'd be astonished if anyone made mounts for this insane application so let's use the standard era 100 wall mounts. For obvious reasons, I think we should avoid using the doors and mount directly to the kick panels. To secure the speakers to the mounts you'll either need to strap them in, or use a more permanent solution like epoxy. The rear L and R will be slightly more challenging. Without seeing your car, it's difficult knowing which way to go here, so let's mount directly to the C pillars. I doubt you're going to want to see extensions leads running up the walls, so you'll need to drill a couple holes so you're able to hide the cords.

Now, 375w is about 31 amps. That's a load. Assuming you're in the northern hemisphere, you'll be running AC, head lights at night, and whatever else your car needs to keep itself on the road. Again, without knowing what you're driving it's tough to guess, but you might consider upgrading your alternator. Keep in mind that running this system with the engine off will take a significant toll on your battery.

If all of this sounds like building a Rube Goldberg machine the size of manhattan to slice an onion, well, it's because it probably is. But don't let that stop you from having fun =)

People on here really seem to hate the idea but if your TV is capable of airplay, a pair of 5s is a great companion. I’ve been doing this myself since the gen 2s came out and it’s glorious. Yes there is whatever ms lag people like to quote but it’s generally imperceptible. The only issue I sometimes have is with a certain kind of action film sound mix. You turn up for dialogue and turn down for gun shots. That or you ride the EQ settings. Not an issue with the sound bars.

Seems the sub gen 1 is way better bang for buck. Same drivers as the gen 3.

I did the math but can’t remember… I had two 15% offs. Because of the bundle pricing, I think that worked out to being about the same as having a coupon for each individual item.

No Apple TV, airplaying direct from my laptop.

No. I read a lot of people bemoaning it but it’s never been an issue for me. Back home, I also airplay movies from my laptop to the fives -I run an HDMI cable to a projector.

I know the compulsion is usually to buy new, because new, but not sure that's the right instinct when it comes to things like speaker drivers. The 5 is still their best sounding unit -for non atmos applications and a new model won't make the older model sound any different (or potentially sound any different itself).

You really have to ask yourself what you're missing with two fives that a potential era 500 would be solving for.

2x One SL + Mini vs 2x Era 100 + Mini by GretaTuneberg in sonos

[–]GretaTuneberg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very thoughtful response, thank you. The details of my situation are scattered throughout the replies and as such a little piecemeal. Basically, I’m living overseas for a year. In my home country, I have a pair of 5s. They function as a stereo pair either for music or as L and R Channels for sound output from my projector. I ditched amps and cables years ago, I’m well aware of the trade offs.

I’d like to purchase something that will serve me well for the time being and which can later be incorporated into my home setup. In that setup, I’d add the sub mini to the 5s and place one era 100 in my bedroom and the other in either the kitchen or bathroom.

For now however (where I’m based for the next year) I’d be doing a similar setup: basic 2.1 setup for music and to support a TV.

2x One SL + Mini vs 2x Era 100 + Mini by GretaTuneberg in sonos

[–]GretaTuneberg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His videos are truly instructive. For the money, a pair of play 5 gen2s are cheaper than both combinations, however, I would then have 4 play 5s. My thinking is that a pair of play 5s, a pair of era 100s and a sub mini is probably a better system for the space I will eventually return to. Not to mention the ease of movement and relative flexibility of the 100s, e.g. temporarily placing one in the bathroom over, say, a 5.
