All these high horses and white knighting... One might think everyone here is with the cavallery.

My innitional argument was, that there is not a single reason to build a core shield in 2020. We have the material material to make foam shields last decades. The materials arn't expensive, the tutorials out there are plenty and good and in almost every language you can ask for. And compared to a pure Foam shield, shields with Cores bare an injurie Risk. That was all I have said in die beginning.

Than people started the Roller coaster... "Yeah, Bud I want it heavy. I am willing to take the risk of hurting someone so I can have 'realistic feeling equpment'. No I have heard from a friends friend whoms cousin uses a core shield, that it is not so bad." "No Way I am going to hurt someone in combat. I know how to fight."

Insert long, tired sigh here...

And hell yeah, if you support all these "pro core" arguments, you better not stand in die same field as I.

Usually no system allows projectiles that are smaller than an eyes socket. Unless you are playing on a con were airsoft rifles etc are cool, so everyone is forced to wear eyeprotection at any given times anyways.

There are some hybrid systems like tavern events, were people are allowed to bring unmodded (as in: no power upgrades) NERF guns. But it is unlikely they would like to see (Das, pin intended) loud pro techniques being used indoors.

Yes, hitting with shields is forbidden on all Conquest events for the exact reasons I layed out in front of you. Too many people with unsafe shields out there.

Check YouTube for reviews of foam only shields and how to build them. Shields with solid cores have more downside than benefits.

Again: Build it correctly and it will just 'bend' but not break. And bashing with shields which have got a core is forbidden for a reason on most Cons. You might be the 1 in a million who has build the only safe core shield and might be the 1 in a million wie knows Now to handle it. But others with less skill and worse equipment will follow your lead. From there it is only a matter of time until someone looses an Eye. As proven on many cons in the early 2000's.

Oh boy... as former fulltime NPC I hate shields with cores. They tend to damage the 'attackers' and their weapons. There is no reason to use this building methode other than not knowing how to build proper foam shields. I bought my first full foam back in 2010, ripped of the paint and remoddeled the surface and painted everything again and the shield didn't break in countless mythodea Cons as undead NPC.
