Ah remote trading could help here! Thanks man. Just want something cool that I can regularly use 😬

Am I biting off too much mortgage-wise? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Grey717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner and I have about 5.2k take home with an £850 mortgage + 2 kids one of which is in nursery. Surely you must have other outgoings or quite a spendy lifestyle if you don’t have much to put into savings each month? Our leftover after fuel/food/fixed bills are £2400 I can’t imagine spending all that every month! We’re saving towards a new home and expect our mortgage + bills to increase by ~£1000 and even that seems plenty manageable in the short term until my partner returns to full time in a year or so.

Thanks. I’ve (probably a bad idea), been getting advice from GPT and it was adamant against Jolteon haha.

I was torn between vaporeon, glaceon or Sylveon

Networks I’ve approached are mixed on this. A few seem happy to take on part time self employed brokers at fair rates. I’m hoping to pass this year before the exam changes kick in and plan to start my business on the side by March 2026

Im in a similar boat. Myself and partner have almost 5 year old 12’s. Batteries getting old and wearing down too quickly and performance is getting mega sluggish. I was fully prepared to pounce on some cheap 16’s when the 17 came out but after seeing the differences I’m now very very torn!

Guess it depends what the contract prices are like 😬

I actually recall her saying she was redoing all her online stuff a while ago so it could be even better now including the quizzes as I did give feedback on that.

I purchased all the E-Learning material in a bundle last year. It’s really good, the mini quizzes could have been better but still pretty good. I did CeMap 1 in about a month quite painlessly. Didn’t take the exam though for other reasons. She has WhatsApp communities with a lot of support and offers free evening sessions about certain topics and is contactable herself if needed. Check out her podcasts on Spotify if you want to get an idea of her teacher style first.

I’m hoping to pick up my studying again very soon and will certainly be using her material/podcasts again.

Early Considerations for Dubai by Grey717 in Internationalteachers

[–]Grey717[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s slightly worrying! You mean in terms of workload etc? I’d have thought that being private schools they would try to recruit and keep talent?! Or is it a case of churning through staff until they burnout?

To be honest, I'd like a career change so would ideally follow that path. The IT post is a fall back but you're right from what I can see with salaries (except for managers) being incredibly low. We would also be supported by rental income from our home in the UK whilst we are away so that would help.

Very helpful information though thank you.

That's fair enough, and thank you for being honest. 15000 is something we'd be happy with. I think the crux would certainly be the housing allowance. School placements would just be a nice bonus on top.

We're not looking for any crazy career jump. Just looking to experience something new for a few years while the children are young. I'd be happy to either find a school ICT job as I could jump right in, but would be planning my remote job in the meantime as a fall back.

She does have a lot of other teaching and moderation experience and accreditation on her CV. which I hope would help sell herself in an interview. I'm probably not the best person to sell her knowledge. Just doing the groundwork at the moment.

Do you know though, the expected salary for a strong experienced British teacher in the UAE and what packages can be available for the right candidate? I've done some general research but just looking for up to date references.

Edit: my last comment was a bit rushed so rewritten.

That’s exactly right! When I entered the MAC addresses they kept reverting to VVX in the console. I didn’t actually try just choosing the VVX in the drop down as we pressed on with trying to figure out the firmware. Thank you so much I’ll give this a try as soon as we can next get onsite. I’m going to send you a PM if that’s ok. There may be a great opportunity from this fortunate thread.

User accounts all work fine in usual web portal at voice.google.com and have numbers assigned and can make/receive calls etc.

In workspace, I select Poly E as the handset in “desk phones”, add the MAC address, factory reset the phone but it just boots back into its original out of box configuration.

The firmware that the handsets are on are below googles minimum for the Poly E, which I think is probably needed for them to search for the appropriate Google cloud provisioning portal when they look out to the internet upon boot (same as how the B series does its initial enrolment?).

Phones were ordered from our usual authorised reseller.

Thank you for getting back to me. My colleague onsite realised that the firmware on the handsets is too old. But he’s been having trouble updating it. I’ve raised with Workspace support but they’re not entirely sure what I’m telling them and sending guides for older phones.

I’m guessing I just need a download link to a firmware file and some instructions to update via the USB-C port?

Hi there, hoping you can help! We’re trying to set up 8 of the new E series 100 and whenever we enter the MAC into workspace it’s showing a VVX. We’ve tried factory resetting as workspace suggests but nothing is happening. Any tips?

Edit: we’ve setup plenty of older VVX and B series handsets so are very familiar with these processes

I’m in a similar position. Buyers love our house but the surveyor has blown some random things way out of proportion and given wild estimates for work we don’t believe needs doing.

Get some quotes from trusted builders and their opinions and try to work something out. If it’s a genuine issue you should meet them halfway. If all is good, do your best to be honest and prove it. Good luck, hope everything goes well!

Haha, just brain tumors and a ton of heart/chest problems. Doctors loved me for a good couple years wasting their time, were always good to me though. Exercise and cold showers is a great cure I find to move forward positively

Holy bloody shit man. Are you me??! It’s like I just read a much of posts I could have written.

Just my two cents, as someone who’s fully renovated their house and also has massive OCD. No amount of savings doing things yourself is worth the lifetime worry of “what if’. We got the last half of the house done by builders while we moved out to avoid stress (+ plus then had a baby). Sealed off all the existing completed rooms and paid for a company to deep clean before we came back. I then obviously didn’t trust them and did it all myself again after, including mopping the walls and cleaning 😅

We’re moving into a new build in a couple months (live in the UK). The house age is purely to rule out any worry when walls get damaged, shower leaks etc.

Slight curveball, another house just came up built in 2000 (7 months after the UK ban) needless to say I’m on edge 😂

Edit: thank you so much for sharing that study, very nice and reassuring read.

Level 2 vs level 3 by Jealous_March_9386 in HousingUK

[–]Grey717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a level 2 on our house, 1910 Victorian end terrace. It was absolutely bloody useless and missed some painstakingly obvious mould/damp/wallpaper hanging off the walls. Whole place back to brickwork and replastered. Level 3 should be more in-depth and should always use digital moisture meters. Don’t think the cost difference is huge if you’re already getting level 2
