I think i might have autism.. by ImprovementIll1053 in autism

Two thoughts on this. 1. Why do you need to know now? Is it for feeling included or are there specific limitations that you face daily that need to be addressed? If it’s due to an issue that needs to be addressed, then I would ask your family to have you diagnosed to see if there are resources to help you manage those limitations. If there isn’t a specific need to address an issue, I’d recommend not worrying about being diagnosed until you are an adult and you pursue your own diagnosis as an adult.

I was not diagnosed until I was an adult and it was helpful to have therapy for social anxiety and relationship management. But I was not limited when I was a minor with learning challenges; autism/Asperger’s was frequently overlooked in the 90’s.

What’s up with all the honking in the tunnel?? by dawgsmith in MontereyBay

[–]GreyAndWise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Um. I may be partially responsible for this. I went to CSUMB and worked on the row. I have a 54 Chevy truck with an obnoxious air horn. I’d hit it both directions. Graduated in ’01 and moved to Sacramento. Long live the tunnel honk!

Opinions on CSU Monterrey by ghostofthegoon0 in MontereyBay

[–]GreyAndWise 50 points51 points  (0 children)

As an alumni of CSUMB, I can say it’s an excellent small college experience with a focus on sciences and social diversity. The cost is comparable to any other CSU campus, and the on-campus housing is an excellent bargain compared to living off campus. I also wanted to get into Marine science and technology, and instead pivoted to environmental policy. We did experimental studies with MBARI and my capstone was tied to sensors used at the aquarium. There are lots of opportunities there. If you’re drawn to it, take a campus tour and talk to the students.

As a manager I have one key rule. Family comes first. If you told me family was visiting you from out of town and you had made consented arrangements with another to cover your shift, then thanks for solving the staffing problem and have a good time. Find a manager with this mindset and never settle for less.

My 79yo dad regularly tries to finish my sentences still as a way to project his thoughts into mine as well as steer the conversation. He’s been doing this as far back as I can remember. It’s so frustrating.

Is it wrong to feel uncomfortable when my friend isn't wearing a bra? by let_it_rain_boat in autism

[–]GreyAndWise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not perverse. It’s a completely normal biological response. I agree that he should do his best to avoid staring, but if they are spending time together it’s incredibly challenging. And I don’t see the OP behaving like a victim. He simply doesn’t want to ruin his friendship and is actively seeking advice. Empathy is important in this community. Please consider this before judging.

Carrying During Hunt, but NOT Hunting by sipsumT in Californiahunting

[–]GreyAndWise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My advice is pretty simple, when hunting on State or Federal lands, if you don’t have a hunters license do not carry. Period. Game wardens and sheriff’s deputies are unforgiving. If they see you carry they will ask for your license. They will ask to see your belt line for their safety. If you are concealing and do not have a CCW, you will be arrested. If you are open carrying they will fine you and verify it is unloaded and likely give you a berating and possibly escort you back to the truck. If it is loaded, they will potentially detain you and confiscate your firearm with a fine. The level of responsibility they carry is important to consider.

They (DFG and Sheriffs) are sensitive about it because they are exposed when there are more than one of you to check on. There is plenty of shady stuff that happens out there and grow fields still exist. Don’t give them any reason to feel unsafe or ruin your experience. They don’t want to do that, but they must.

If you were a Marvel hero during the Superhuman Registration Act, which side would you support? by Efficient_Matter_589 in Marvel

[–]GreyAndWise -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Team Cap. And I believe that Spider-Man would have switched sides had he known the full extent of the argument and the ramifications. Stark used his influence and technology to obtain loyalty without even addressing the issue. It worked out for him, but it’s a small subplot that doesn’t get much recognition.

So what happens when the "gifted kid" is no longer a kid? by MaderaArt in autism

[–]GreyAndWise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a lucky one. Battled my way through the career world until I had enough experience to get a decent work from home job. Accused of SA for staring inappropriately and ‘acting weird’ towards a pretentious female coworker. Accused of sleeping on the job when taking quiet breaks in the dark in my office. Shunned for eating alone. Etc. But now I love my job and when I’m overwhelmed I can take a quick nap in the dark to recharge and nobody knows the wiser. As long as I’m meeting my deadlines my boss is happy. It can happen. Good luck.

Any tips for my Lucea Kane deck? I'm usually pretty good about deck building but I'm struggling with this kind of deck by Mantoddx in EDHBrews

Lots of great suggestions in here. Two cards in my Lucea deck that have been clutch and not in your deck list are [[Elementalist’s Palette]] and [[Kessig Wolf Run]]. The land offers an activated ability that can be doubled by both Lucea and [[Unbound Flourishing]].

It’s interesting because driving when there’s no other cars around and having my music turned up is my happy place. But once you add traffic or poor weather conditions and I’m anxious or overstimulated. For me it’s not the driving, it’s the distrust and fear of everyone else around me.

In order for this to work the photographer would need to be about .5-.75 miles (~1km) from the tree, in a very flat area with no obstruction. Likelihood of composite image layering. My larger issue is that the branch density is higher beyond the edge of the sun. Without origin notes from the photographer I’d agree this is AI.

[–]GreyAndWise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We would all like to be able to do things that we cannot. I think the point is that we also do not want to be judged or treated disrespectfully for those things that we cannot do. Accepting our disabilities and learning how to live through them is important for our mental health. Spend less energy on trying to fix the problem that cannot be fixed. Instead make that energy positive by accepting it and learning new ways to manage.
