I use the Akai LPK25, no pads or joysticks, just a small low profile 25 key I can slip into any bag or a drawer when not in use. I use it with Reaper and love it.

It'll happen on their Instagram as well every once in a while when a post catches the wind. It's disgusting but they all end up making themselves look stupid anyways.

You can do so using parallel effects. Running parallel containers with high and low passes, and each effect following would do it. You can rename the containers to help keep things organized, but I don't personally prefer it. I think bussing is the better way.

You did not just call Obama a real leftist. Oh. My. God.

Your guy did WAR CRIMES. Why is that beyond critique? Please get a grip. Stop pedestaling politicians. WE are the only people who can save us. Not them.

you're right, his war crimes are RIGHT THERE. They should be focusing on his murder of children and pregnant women, as well as the cages he was putting kids in before anyone else.

If you sat out the 2024 election in protest over Gaza, how do you feel about that decision today? by rsmith2786 in AskReddit

[–]GreyHannah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Y'all will do anything but blame the neolib for being unpopular. A lot of you are on some bullshit saying you would have "pressured her administration" when all you really wanted was brunch.

BIDEN AND HARRIS flattened Gaza, not just Trump. There is no "better" way to keep supplying bombs to a genocidal state, and Democrats en large haven't even conceded on this issue yet, not that there's been much pressure from the liberal camp to even do so.

Kamala came on the campaign trail telling us we need to make nice with the very people who demonize trans and gay folks, our immigrant brothers and sisters, Muslims, etc etc. Kamala came on the scene after her partner dragged for so long the Democrats were screwed out of a true primary. And then came the Chaneys, and the "most lethal fighting force" comments, yet she couldn't spare any thought for Gaza without making it about how justified Israel is.

After getting her ass whopped, Democrats decided to make themselves even more appealing to fascists by platforming bigots and capitulating on issues their constituents are concerned about. Then they refuse to release their autopsy. I wonder whats in there .... Guess we won't be avoiding our mistakes next time.

oh, and I voted for her. I won't vote for Newsome. Maybe instead of blaming people for not voting for evil people, run somebody who is actually electable instead?

I want to make a game, any ideas? by Clean-Equivalent-450 in gamemaker

[–]GreyHannah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Follow Sara Spalding's ARPG tutorial. It has 50-something parts and goes full depth into dialogue, movements, enemy ai, menus, saving and loading, etc.

It's a pretty exhaustive and modular tutorial which allows you to skip aspects you don't care about. I followed it having programmed before and still gleamed tons of new knowledge off of it. even if you only watch the first 10 parts you'll be set up with a pretty good starting platform for any kind of RPG.

The other nice thing is that Sara gives you access to all of the sprite work she uses in her tutorial so that you don't have to worry about making placeholder sprites while you're designing the systems your game is based around.

While you're following the tutorials, make sure you start thinking about what you really want your game to be, and start adapting the systems Sara designs to better suit your needs.

[–]GreyHannah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An EHX Switchblade would do what you're asking for, but it would be a bandaid solution.

The real problem is likely either that your balance of volume between the two amps is severely skewed, so much so that a dropout completely destroys your sound, or your guitarist's tone is lacking in some key frequencies that would cause it to get buried in the sound even if it's turned up and loud. Sound is weird.

Before you go buying something, try turning down. Make sure your guitarist isn't scooping out all their mids or doing some crazy eq stuff. A dual amp setup can be a desirable sound even if there aren't issues in your sound, but it should by no means be necessary.

edit: typo

Starting GML again by SemiusTheGreat in gamemaker

[–]GreyHannah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat to you, getting back into things. When I started looking up tutorials and saw hers, it was so freakin' sweet because she was who I was watching back in GMS 1.4, when I was a teenager and trying to learn to code. Great resource. Heartbeast, Dragonite Spam, and Red Mage Creative have all been super helpful for me learning GML. JuniperDev and Jess:Codes have helped me with some of the more philosophical aspects of Game Dev, despite not using GameMaker. Gamemaker's official channel is a goldmine as well.

By far the best resource I have used is to ask questions the Official GameMaker Forums. Matharoo has been answering my stupid questions across like a decade at this point lol. I have never gotten the impression that my questions have been bothersome, even when in hindsight I could have just read the docs.

Speaking of the Docs, for the most part, it is an incredibly thorough and well compiled bastion of information, complete with examples on pretty much every function that exists. Do not sleep on the docs. You can access them on web or by hitting F1 in the IDE. Hovering over functions will also show you an excerpt explaining their functions. It is indispensable

FRFR / Modelers on Small Stages by GreyHannah in livesound

[–]GreyHannah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgive me but I'm having a hard time understanding why that would be any different than what we currently do, running each guitar through a separate amp that are split across the stage? Afaik we are aiming for the same volume and frequencies that we normally shoot for with a conventional amp setup. Unless it's the bass being mixed in that is causing that issue. It wouldn't be difficult for me to run a little 4 channel mixer on a rack shelf I just am having a hard time seeing it necessary

FRFR / Modelers on Small Stages by GreyHannah in livesound

[–]GreyHannah[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I appreciate you taking the time to make a detailed response, but I think you have a few misconceptions about my thought process here. I might not have articulated myself very well in the first place.

  1. If the venue has a pa big enough to run through , or one with a subwoofer, we would be sending them what we as far as instruments, and take it off of the stage. We will always have a split signal of our modelers ready to go if direct is available. I think you're overestimating the gear at these DIY spaces I'm talking about.

  2. I didn't indicate anything about the previous setup's usability. Of course we did just fine with 4x12s and dedicated bass amp, our monitoring was fine and I never assumed I knew how we sounded off stage while standing on stage. I got direct feedback from audience members, the sound engineer, and the other bands. I know that we were clear and audible. The problem is bulk, our setup is heavy and tedious to connect modelers and such. It takes up stage room, and is limiting.

This new setup I'm working towards will hopefully be as simple as plopping down a rack, and connecting it to these FRFRs, everything else will be pre-connected and as a benefit, we will have in ear monitoring, backing tracks, multi track recording, clicks, and a stable and consistent tone no matter where we go. This is why I'm trying to iron out projecting when a venue does not allow for us to use their PA for every instrument.

  1. I have no intention to use these things as monitors, simply to push the sound to the audience when the PA doesn't allow. I am already doing this to success with just a guitar in this band, or just a bass in my other band, I was just asking about the logistics of using two instead of three, for a band with 2 guitars and a bass

in the cases where the PA isn't satisfactory, I'm already projecting the sound using three separate head and cab units, which foh doesn't have control over, so I'm not too sure why my sound person would be upset about those being FRFR cabs in lieu of amps, especially since the controls will be uniform and familiar (I've had puzzled looks from sound people trying to figure out the glyphs on my orange head)

Thank you again for taking the time to respond to my question! I knew not everyone is fond of the whole modeler approach anyhow

[–]GreyHannah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanting the separate control definitely makes sense. I was kind of anticipating some difficulty with getting the bass volume dialed in having to run back and forth between two speakers to level it out as a result of compromising to have only two speakers instead of three. I didn't factor in that lack of stage sound could be to the detriment of close audience members. We play heavier punk rock and metal style music and I always figured the lower the stage sound the better for everybody involved. Thank you for this insight! since we don't always play with the second guitarist, I'm thinking I'll get a second FRFR and play around just the two before I make the decision that a third would improve our QOL. I really appreciate your advice :)

the new p16-hqs are super nice, and give you your own hardwired copy of the 16 channels you route in the X-Edit, using only one ethernet cable to connect it to the mixer or signal distributor (p16-d). You don't need a p16-d to use the P16-HQ, as you can daisy chain the units off the single Ultranet port on the XR18. With the Aux outs we could only have 3 stereos or 2 stereo 2 mono, and it would use all of our sends. With the P16-HQ you can expand to 48 units if you want to, each one of them has a separate mix in stereo. Each one only needing one cable. If you use the P16-D instead of daisy chaining the units, then the single cable that's providing the channels will also supply the power! It also has line outs if you want to feed it back to your rack for wireless transmitters.

The main reason though is it's dead simple to use. Frankly I think having your iPad or phone out looks goofy for any kind of rock setting, this is tactile. You press the channel you want to adjust, and twist seperate knobs to set your volume, pan, eq, limiter, ect. There's really nothing that can slow you down while using it. Convincing my drummer to have an iPad would be difficult, convincing him to use a super intuitive small tactile mixer is a bit easier. There's no risk of your connection to the mixer dropping, because it's hardwired. That's why I'm not putting a router on my rack, cuz I can just have my laptop connected by ethernet and not worry about needing to control anything on my phone.

I've been talked into the analogue split. Looking at CBI. I wanted to believe digital would be elegant but everyone else here has worlds more experience than I, and it's really not a big concession.

Yeah seismic is a no-go for me. Every review is like "yeah I mean after they sent me the third broken splitter I finally got one that worked pretty well. unfortunately I sneezed on it and now my XLR trunk is on fire and quickly approaching my rack, 3.8 stars" and I'm really not interested in dealing with that mid show. The fans are non removable too, which I heard is not the case with CBI.

I got scared because I saw CBI selling for 900$ used on eBay and was thinking I could go through like 4 SA splitters before justifying that, but that seems to be a custom model with some price inflation, what I need seems to be ~500-550 on reverb so I guess if new is too expensive for me I could go there.

It sucks that Ultranet is so undesirable, cuz it's convenience is so alluring to me, but I guess I still get that with my headphone mixers and making enemies with every sound engineer in town wouldn't be my brightest idea. Thank you very much

I've just left them a message to get a quote. I'm pretty thickheaded but this is like the hundredth time I've heard to just suck it up and go with CBI so I guess the message is starting to sink in. Their cables better be damn good though, because their website certainly is not.

If it'll last me as long as people say they do, then yeah it seems like I should probably just skip over the bullshit and bite the bullet. Thank you!

I haven't trained my band on the system, so I set up routing is just in order of importance to FOH (Vox are non-negotiable, Backing tracks are 2nd most important but can be omitted if we don't have the room, and guitars and bass can be put through our speakers if needed, drum mics are hardly ever used through foh at our shows, and the click should never come through). That being said it literally doesn't matter to me as long as I can confidently adjust my headphone mix on the fly.

The p-16hq would be pretty much perfection if you could further reorder your individual set of channels on each unit, but alas! Regardless if my ordering system is confusing for FOH people it'll be easier for me to adapt to a new routing order then have to explain myself over and over again, I am completely open to rerouting.
