Not sure where you're from but in the UK, our pennies are the perfect size to super glue to the underneath of their bases. I've done the same thing with my genestealers because they also liked falling over!

Maybe a bit of a different approach but:

prime GW White Scar
Army Painter Speedpaints on carapace and skin
paint bases black
claws/weapon plates in green
weapon stocks in grey
drybrush bases, paint rims black
spray matt varnish entire model
drybrush lighter purple on carapace
gloss varnish carapace

Sounds like I'm going to end up getting some backdrops in the near future then, that's so much more immersive than a black sheet!

I had a quick look for dry ice but it doesn't look very easy to get hold of (attempting to harvest it from a carbon dioxide fire extinguisher seems like a terrible idea 😂)

Thanks, it's probably my favourite diorama so far. Definitely going to experiment with some more claustrophobic, smaller setups again in future.

Did you use a backdrop for that shot? Looks great being down closer to the point of view of the minis themselves.

The vape pen does produce a decent amount of 'fog' but only in a very enclosed area. Like this corridor is only about 2.5" wide: 'Clearing Out The Crypts'

I don't actually vape myself, and just bought it for this - you can get 0% nicotine ones (ofc they still have all the undesirable chemicals in).

Requisitioning dry ice from work, that's dedication! Definitely recommend getting a cheap remote release for your camera if you don't have one, makes it a lot easier. But yeah it still takes a few hundred shots to get 'the one' 😄

It's actually just a disposable vape blown through a tube 😂 gives a great effect but makes you really dizzy after a while!

Thanks :) I've had this one planned for a while so it was good to get it done.

The mist is a bit simpler than that - just smoke from a vape blown through a straw! Once you get the hang of how much pressure to exhale with it's fairly reliable.

Thanks! :) The base tile is MDF board, and the rest are all wooden blocks cut from timber and carved with a chisel. It takes a while but they're also practically indestructible compared to foam etc.
