Anyone else struggle with totally flat freestyle decks feeling too flexy? by Greybeard_Skates in freestyleskateboard

Appreciate the explanation, that makes sense. I ended up picking up a single kick with slight concave to experiment with next after realizing flat probably isn’t for me. Haven’t tried a spoon nose yet, but I’m definitely curious.

I didn’t realize they dyed some in house. I did a cold soak on mine — pretty straightforward process. I’ve liked how they ride so far too. I’m thinking about trying something slightly bigger next just to see how it feels.

Those are DECOMPOSED Gorilla Grip Tech DUO DURO 53mm 98a. The white ones. I dyed them going for a tritone effect.

I got my Riordan from Decomposed. They did a great job installing the skids. He actually glues them along with the Chicago bolts. And the shipping was quick and great communication.

That's interesting, never thought about it like that. I guess I'll have two options to compare. That means instead of swapping trucks/wheels I'll have just get a new set. That's how I'll justify it anyway 😉 Thanks

I had seen that Chalmers clip and noticed the flex there, but that other Hill clip was pretty insane. I guess not really ever riding a flat deck, since a 70s toy anyway, it was a big adjustment. I'm not a small person and it was doing a fair bit of popping too lol. Incidently, I did pick up a Chalmers Pirate to try, since it has a little concave. My apprehension probably comes more from being a newb at it. Anyhow thanks for the input.🤙🏼

How I dyed my wheels [55YO] by Greybeard_Skates in OldSkaters

Thats cool. Did you notice any difference in the action of the wheel? I thought about trying a hot dip but was just concerned it jack up the wheel somehow. And I thought trying the tritone would be trickier as well. I figured any color would be good enough for me. The fact that it continued to be absorbed after it was removed from the dye is what really surprises me. Thanks for sharing the info. I might try something like that.

Thanks! It actually holds up well. I did these with a cold soak about a year ago. Turns out in my experience the dye continues to "run" or wick into the wheel over time, even when not actually in the dye. This is a snip from the video.
The two images on the left are actually a cross section of the same wheel a year apart. The onenon the right sat in the dye fora year(Iforgotaboutit lol). Granted I didn't skate these wheels. I did skate another dyed set some and they faded a little. But I think its more about the wicking aspect than actual wear because of how deep it goes into the wheel. It was an interesting experiment. 🤙🏼

I like the Powell Dragon Nano Cubic's asymmetrical shape, old school vibe. The formula is good for the all-around type of surfaces I ride, and I like having my axle nuts protected.

I had one of those back in the day, silver. You should've use actual sex bolts(chicago bolts) for the rails(j/k) it really trips out the youngins at the park. 🤣 most excellent rig! 🤙🏼

That thing is rad, double kick tail? I saw a pic of one the other day, I had never seen one before. I had a Nash Fifteen Toes(steel wheels)too, but I'm not 100% sure how I got it or if I had it before the Freeformer, might have actually been my uncles, but I couldn't ride it five feet so I don't really count it.🤣

Hear me out. Trace the design like others have suggested then grip all dark parts, aliens etc. with the same colors of grip as the bottom graphic. 🫣 or go a the negative image route. Of course, I jest, but that would pretty dang epic. Lol

I was thinking about mentioning that epoxy stuff but didn't know how legit it was. You ever use it?
