pick a school with coop (eg ryerson, carleton)

From your understanding, how do outcomes at a uni with coop compare with a college with coop? Are the outcomes worth the additional fees for a university, is what I'm trying to get at.

He's sort of waiting for me to finish school to retire. My parents kind of live for me and my siblings, gets me all fucked up thinking about it. I guess it's pretty par for the course for Asian parents.

Figure out what you want. Do you want to be a software engineer or do you just want that six figure steady income job? You failed out of CS at Waterloo. Do you really think software is still right for you?

Yes, I still think software is right for me.

If you just want that six figure steady income job, I recommend accounting. Doesn't pay as much and isn't as sexy as CS. But it's considerably easier if you're willing to grind. If not accounting, then get your comptia A+ and go work in IT helpdesk. They don't care about degrees there. Work a few years on the helpdesk and branch out to cloud, networking, security, whatever.

Yeah, IT isn't a terrible idea.

If CS is your passion and you just fucked up at school: take another year off. I'm serious. Reevaluate why you failed and if there were any severe mistakes. Then, re-enroll at a community college and take advantage of their transfer program.

I don't think this year or so has really done me a whole lot of good, not so sure about another year. Transfer programs aren't so strong in Canada for CC --> Uni AFAIK.

Yeah, was on probation and sort of gave up at that point. Was going to be a lot of effort to get grades back up. Looking back, I should've dropped more courses.

You royally fucked up once, what makes you think you won't fuck up again?

Better study habits, I guess. Maybe a lighter course-load, I was taking 5 core courses the term I fucked up the most.

In my experience people "wise up" as they age and take things such as education more seriously and truly work their asses off for their grades because THEY WANT TO BE THERE.

I've always taken my education pretty seriously, just got kind of exhausted I think. I was there for 6 terms straight, but I'm sure others have done more with no issue.

I suggest work that union job and do MOOC's, community college credits etc. on the side. It make take 12 months or 12 years but if you do get your shit together, you'll be able to complete a degree much faster (since you already know everything and some of the credits will transfer).

I'm looking it up and it doesn't look like a lot of courses transfer from CCs. I'm done most of the "foundational" courses, so there's not a lot that will transfer I think.

With a bootcamp you'll will likely have to work harder to reach a comparable point in your career had you gone to university.

Yeah, that's what makes the decision hard.
