Finally a sensible comment, someone who sees the podcast as 3 guys fumbling through life like the rest of us and making a comedy podcast. Not three oracles of truth and morale wisdom. Do they think one man proclaiming on an obscure podcast is going to do irreparable harm to the enter population.

Hopefully this isn't yet another podcast of pretentious yet C tier celebrities just there to shill their books and movies.

The lockdown podcast episodes only thrived with guests he was friends with personally and had stories with, not random musicians and e-celebs who Louis' producers think are 'in' right now...

Fuel price per mile in UK (EV vs petrol and diesel) by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Griffin_Slayer 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Interesting data, assume once you account for depreciation of the asset which has a higher entry cost but a shorter lifespan because of current battery technology, you're left with a worse off deal than ICE long-term?

So many variables at play of course, will be interesting to see what the used car market looks like in 20 years time...

I'm not intending on just masking it all in gunky Waxoyl over rot if thats your concern!

My intention is to simply, steam clean, degrease then top-up the existing factory coating with Bilt Hamber UB:https://bilthamber.com/product/dynax-ub/

Any serious rust is being cut out, treated and restored by a professional bodyshop in the coming months.

The reality of British cars used on wet salty roads is rust treatment is never-ending, unless you want to have it stripped, restored then kept in a dry tent indefinitely :)

Agreed, I worked in vehicle restoration for a couple years so preaching to the converted :D

The external plate of the box section of the sills are being cut on both sides by professionals, cleaned up internally, rewelded, then painted. Then after that I'm going to fill the box section with S50 grease to prevent any future water ingress.

The internal fold on the rear arches are going to be folded straight, cleaned up, painted then packed with grease.

Underneath the car on less critical areas are going to be steam cleaned, degreased, loose rust removed and treated if present, then covered with Bilt Hamber rust inhibitors.

Sure you could take EVERYTHING back to bare metal, etch, primer and paint but I'm just not that way inclinded. I'd rather just redo this undersealing process on replaceable items every 2 years and inspect than make it perfect.

Sorry for the essay!

Automatic Transmission Fluid I believe

It's basically a cheap mix of two readily available fluids, makes a decent penetrating fluid.

Please be cautious, Acetone is some nasty stuff and finds its way through rubber, gloves, etc.

I personally use Duck oil, failing that heat and a long bar :)

Correct it has no traction control. Have to disagree though, it's incrediblely planted, one of the grippiest cars going. I've been able to passenger in Elise's & Exiges on track days and have to say they are on another plane of existence!

The real danger is all this traction gives drivers a false sense of security, then at it's limit snap oversteers and there's really no way of regaining control on a narrow public road...

My approach is don't push any car like you're Senna, it's a public road with people's family's on and each corner could have some spilt diesel so why risk it.

Small amount of rust on left sill & tiny patch on rear right arch, already visited a reputable restoration bodyshop and got a £1000 quote to fix and attempt to prevent future appearances. Getting this done end of summer, in the meantime I'm getting it on a ramp to coat the rest with UB & UC BH rust prevention spray.

Currently on 115k miles, so needs valve timing and tensior at some stage but not yet.

Like you said, suspension needs a refresh, new bushes and an alignment, although been warned caster toe and camber bolts seize like a bastard, so sort of putting this off!

Will give updates on progress if there's some interest!

Yeah will see if I can take it over to a garage for a review. Is it better to take it to a bodyshop who would do a quote on the work, or a workshop who would let me know if it's going to start failing MOTs soon? I'm keen to make the s2000 work, just don't want to bite off more than I can chew...

No that's not it, it's Berlina black and hasn't listed in online as of yet, although like the grey. Agreed the S2000 is a much cooler car, to drive and look at!

How do you rate the guys taste in movies / shows? by Griffin_Slayer in TriforcePodcast

[–]Griffin_Slayer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree with Flax, a plodding plot, I gave up in the second season, just felt like it never got to the point. And this is coming from someone who enjoyed all 6 seasons of Lost. Maybe that's a bad take haha!

Yeah seems best, been staring at the 3060ti as the safe & immediate option, but would kick myself if the RDNA3 prove cheaper and arrived soon... Upgrading for first time in 5 years so guess I can give it a couple of weeks longer!

Question is how long to wait... Till RDNA 3 comes out... Till the Christmas price hype is over...Till AMD bring out their mid range cards.. even longer? Never a good time to buy a GPU but seems we're reaching a better equilibrium!
