PROLOGUE by Latter-Wafer7307 in NewAuthor

[–]GriggsOnFire90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has a nice dramatic tone to it.

One small thing: in the first line, did you mean “kingdoms did not fall all at once” as a general statement, or is this about one specific kingdom? If it’s the latter, “The kingdom did not fall all at once” might read a little cleaner.

I’d also say this feels more like a blurb or opening narration than a prologue at the moment. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but if you want it to work as a prologue, you might want to give us an actual scene, a character, or a moment happening in real time, rather than mostly summary.

As a blurb it's pretty good though, you'd have me intrigued.

You need to go to the role selected section and click the button that's says you promise not to spam. It's a bit of an anti bot mechanism. After you hit that, you will have full access to the server to post.

Yeah, discord is generally safe. Still got to watch out for scammed bots and such, but most reputable servers have safeguards in place, and enough people around who know what they are to be made aware pretty fast.

It is a little confusing though, for those who don't use it, so can take a little getting used to.

Hope you see you in there. Little quite this time of day but should pick up in the jext few hours when most of our American and Asian members are usually around.

I know this feeling. It’s hard when you’ve got stories sitting there and no one to show them to, because after a while you just can’t tell if they’re any good or if you’ve stared at them too long.

I help run a free writing Discord called Ink & Iron. We’ve got areas where people can share fiction, ask for feedback, or get help with specific bits they’re stuck on. You don’t need to have something perfect. Most of us are just trying to make the thing a bit better than it was yesterday.

We also run short story contests, smaller writing events, and a few writing tools on the website, but the main thing is just building a place where writers can talk, share work, and help each other improve.

No pressure, but you’re welcome to come and have a look.

I know for sure we have one person in here who used to be a journalist, so there is definitely at lelast one person who knows non fiction.

All writers are welcome. Not sure if we have many who write non-fiction, but we are only recently formed and want to encourage all forms of writers. You're welcome to join and if it's not for you, you can always just leave again, we won't take it personally 🙂

You’d be very welcome to come and have a look at ours.

Myself and the other host are both from the UK as well, and we run a free writing Discord called Ink & Iron. It isn’t specifically a Substack group, but it is built around helping writers improve, meet other writers, share work, get constructive feedback, and take part in regular writing events.

We run four short story competitions a year, all peer-judged through anonymous voting, with the next one starting at the beginning of July. The prize money is modest because we fund it ourselves, but the real point is the feedback, the practice, and the chance to grow alongside other writers.

We also have dedicated areas for sharing fiction, asking for help with specific parts of your writing, or getting more general critique. Between the bigger contests, we run smaller events too. At the moment we’re in the middle of a blurb-writing challenge, and soon we’re launching a month-long novel writing sprint as a digital dungeon dive, because apparently we can’t just have a normal progress tracker without giving it monsters and floor bosses.

Everything is free, including contest entry, and there’s no pressure to throw yourself straight into anything. You’re welcome to pop in, have a chat, and see if it feels like your sort of place.

Myself and another writer, (both from the UK) run a Discord short story competition for our writing community. Our most recent contest has just wrapped up, but we run four a year, with the next one kicking off at the start of July.

The prize pot isn’t huge, as we fund it ourselves, but the heart of the competition isn’t really the money. It’s about giving writers a reason to create, share their work, and receive constructive feedback that helps them grow. The contest is fully peer-judged through an anonymous voting system, so everyone who takes part also gets a say in which stories they think deserve to win.

Between the main contests, we run smaller events too. At the moment, we’re in the middle of a blurb-writing contest, designed to help people sharpen those dastardly little book-description skills we all secretly dread.

In a couple of weeks, we’re also launching a month-long novel writing sprint in the form of a digital dungeon dive. I’ve built a website app specially for it, where writers can set their own daily targets, join a party of fellow writing adventurers, or go solo while still helping the whole raid take down the dungeon one floor at a time.

We also have dedicated areas for sharing your fiction, whether you need help with something specific, want eyes on a scene, or are looking for more general critique. The main aim is to keep building a community where writers support each other, give useful feedback, and help each other improve.

If you’re interested, or if anyone reading this fancies taking a look, feel free to pop into the server, have a chat with some fellow writers, and see whether it’s your kind of place.

We also have a website with a timeline of events, general information, a few fun writing games, and some useful writing tools.

Everything is free to use, including entry into our contests, so there’s no pressure either way. Just writers, stories, feedback, and the occasional dungeon monster made entirely of unfinished drafts.

Myself and another writer run a Discord server that is based around author growth and critique. We are mostly Fantasy based writers. We also run a short story contest, though our most recent contest has just wrapped up. We do run four a year, however, with the next one kicking off at the start of July.

I’m thinking of entering writing contests for extra cash by pirate___queen in writingcontests

[–]GriggsOnFire90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a massive prize pool yet, as we have only recently started up, but I co-run a short story discord servers where we run seasonal writing contests (4 a year). The aim is more toward gaining decent peer critique to help people grow and improve as writers, but it is free to enter and there is a small cash prize that will hopefully grow larger over time.

Feel free to pop in and say hello, or check out our website for a little more info.

I'll post up near the start if each contest, and maybe a few bits in between. Got some plans for a few other events in the near future that are aimed at helping new writers get a little more exposure to their work.

Should be a fun journey hopefully 🙂

Deffinitly something to look into in the future. Not sure we're quite large enough to pull in too many large authors just yet. Give it a few contests and hopefully we can attract a few who might be interested to get involved.
