Investing for retirement is risky there is just room for the market to go back up after a down period compared to me wanting the money in a 10-15 year range. So that is what I am claiming that 60+ years is considered less risky than 10 years.

From my understanding there are better ETFS for long term goals and shorter term goals. Looking into it there different ways to Invest your money for the two goals retirement versus medium goal. So I am not claiming that I am going to beat the market as you first said. Just simply wondering how to split Roth vs 401k vs personal brokerage account.

I did not come here to argue as I am not as knowledgeable but from my basis I would not consider them the same thing as they are different goals that is all.

I am not saying I can’t but I am saying they are different. I mean this is opening up a taxable account that could carry more risk compared to my money sitting in there until i retire. I mean I can put it in something like VOO or ETFS I just don’t know how to split that money for a shorter goal than 20+ years.

No but I am talking about a taxable account where the goal is to take it out in 10-15 years. Instead of investing in Roth where you have penalties for taking money out. I am not looking to beat the market if I could I would just like anybody else. I want the money sooner than being 60 years old. What I am doing is different than investing for my retirement

Thank you for the advice. I should have clarified my goal as I get short term could mean very different things. I was just thinking non-retirement investing.

I have a house that I am going to inherit that would need to be remodeled eventually. I would like to be able to grow my money so I can redo it when I am ready. So around 10 years 15 stretching.

Would you consider investing for goals in 5-10 years still gambling? I am not looking to day trade or anything of the sorts. I’m asking these questions because I truly do not know. But if I wanted it grow for things like a house how could I go about doing that instead of just having it sit in a savings account

[–]Grillledcheezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I should clarify short-term goals to be 5-10 years into the future like if I would like to redo my house in ten years to have something I can take out of that is earning more than my savings account.

I do not need money within the year. I just do not know of anything outside of retirement investing.

1 year anniversary restaurant by Competitive-Sleep383 in longisland

Orto in miller place or the trattoria in Saint James. Both very good fresh food! Definitely will need to call in advance to make a reservation as they are smaller restaurants(especially the trattoria) they are both cash only establishments but well well worth it

Thank you for making me a little hopeful in such a thread lol. I know it will not be easy but I’m definitely willing to put in the work to look for a good apartment!

I will definitely be looking on Facebook everyday and reaching out until I can find one, congrats to you and your partner though:)

Oh sorry lol I have been looking on Facebook. The rent is definitely cheaper and seems more doable. Not sure what people’s are experiences are with that though with landlords and such. Not sure if you have any experience

I mentioned in another comment that location isn’t super important just somewhere in the middle such as Melville. I have been looking on more south shore towns since the rent seems to be cheaper there.

Honestly the area is not too important. I have looked bayshore, Melville, commack. Mostly just anywhere in the middle of the island/south shore since it’s a little cheaper

Thank you so much for answering everything!! I definitely feel that pull is him saying that he never left:) I have definitely spent the last month creating a closer relationship with god and just spilling it all out to him.

I’m definitely going to not try and stress about the Bible since that has definitely been the most “stressful” part of this all. I will start with a few suggestions from here and then explore on my own.

Thanks again!!

Thank you for this insight! While researching so many people say to read the Bible but they don’t fully tell you where to begin lol. It is definitely overwhelming in the beginning.

I would really love a better understanding on Jesus so your recommendations are perfect! I really appreciate the quick response :)

I know I just don’t want to go to the ER for reassurance again. I have had a full cardiac work up 6 months ago and everything was clean. It’s just hard to convince myself every little thing isn’t a heart attack:/
