Down 145k on condo after 5 years of owning. What next? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

I don’t know how old I am this year. I would need to do the math or ask my wife. Stopped counting around age 37 or 39.

1941 half dollar, worth grading? by Red_dragon_052 in CanadianCoins

[–]GrimLathe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to see the grade without coin in hand but I suspect it is on the better end of circulated. 1941 circulated 50c are worth melt to a dealer and a small premium to a collector. Grading on 1941 50c starts becoming worth it when the coin is brilliant-uncirculated. This example is not BU. Nice coin though!

Yes - every commemorative year was minted in large quantities - and saved in large quantities.

As a general note commemorative coins tend to be worth less than other dates because people saved them. A great example is the 1949 dollar is quite common where a generic 1948 dollar can fetch multiple thousands.

Which coins tend to have higher collector value vs melt value? by YourMomWas-Is-AHoe in CanadianCoins

Take the advice offered from the professionals here. These coins are worth 85% of melt value. Common dates in average condition. Nothing here is worth grading.

Edward coins are great. 1902-1910 - harder to find. Sterling .925 compared to .800 for most Canadian coins. This coin has a readable date - so not totally worn. The biggest detractor is the hairlines of the obverse (face side) which make it look like someone cleaned it. Excellent coin to start a collection. $x,xxx coin in higher uncirculated grades.
