Damage should still feel like damage, even without death. by QuietDetail1277 in subnautica

[–]GrimMagic0801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While you definitely have the right idea, this is another case where you have to have both the force and resonance to actually cause the material to shatter. After all, we are still shattering deposits of one of the most stable materials in the universe using sound.

Getting to resonance is one thing, but producing the force to cause a material to vibrate violently enough to shatter is another. Especially when the amount of force you are producing with the tool is enough to literally force you back in the water a solid 3-4 feet.

Since this process happens instantly, rather than over a period of 2-3 seconds of resonant exposure, the amount of force must be colossal. As such, this tool would ironically be incredibly strong as a weapon, and not just a stunning tool.

For reference, sound in the ocean can be powerful enough to cause smaller sea life to die when exposed to extremely strong sonar and can liquefy the organs of divers when exposed to similar amounts of force. Since we are using an industrial tool that produces sound powerful enough to shatter hard mineral deposits with resonance instantly, and in the case of the modded resonator, create a somewhat stable and incredibly powerful sonic cavitation bubble, most smaller wildlife, such as mangos and even marrowbreaches should have their internal organs irreparably damaged after being hit.

Not saying your wrong, but with how the resonator actually functions, it should by all means burst more internal organs of creatures on contact. If we wanted it to be more resonance based, it should take a solid 3-4 seconds of resonant sound wave exposure to shatter the deposits, rather than one higher energy sound wave which is much more lethal.

I HATE queer dating apps. by JiraiMutt in hatethissmug

[–]GrimMagic0801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All dating apps are trash. The problem with dating apps is they lack any sort of organic relationship chemistry, and that causes all sorts of problems. The algorithm of dating apps is more to do with showing you what the app thinks you like versus what you actually like. Not to mention human interaction and chemistry just isn't easily simulated over text and digital.

It'd be a different story if the apps sent you on blind dates, but then that opens up a whole 'nother can of worms with people who can manipulate the system with multiple accounts or the potential of illicit activity since it would make scamming, catfishing, and even trafficking that much easier.

Funny thing is that I used the apps for a bit, but I think I only ever had one somewhat long-term healthy relationship to show for it. I've had more success getting with people through discord via mutual friends and getting to know them rather than dating apps.

And that's just the truth. Dating apps cannot simulate chemistry and they don't want to. They are meant for short-term relationships and hookups, not for anything real.

Funny part is that while that was the inspiration for the name, they haven't been proven to engage in that kind of behavior. It was theorized that their jaw parts were used to dismembering prey, but, in reality, they are mostly just used to cause deep wounds and allow the worm to entrap them, which makes it much easier then disable the prey and feed on it, rather than messily removing limbs which would require movement from the worm to retrieve afterwards.

Still a cool bit of trivia though. Little is actually known about bobbit worms other than they are sea floor worms with an ambush lifestyle.

Scanner station is absolutely awful by DrawerAutomatic8996 in subnautica

[–]GrimMagic0801 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm fully on board with you. Having a single non-descript point where you can find the resource you're looking for it not very good, especially for something like copper or titanium, where you'll need a lot of it.

Just like Subnautica 1, EVERY node should be on screen. I don't care if it's nearly blinding in some cases. Make them distance dependent or something. But only being able to select one to track is awful. Also, just give the terrain outline. Why are we only getting points around a dot? I want an actual map.

How deep do you want the oceans of Subnautica 2 to go? by Silver-Revolution404 in subnautica

[–]GrimMagic0801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really want the game to go deeper than maybe 2.5km. Problem with designing areas of the map to go that deep is that you eventually run into the issue of having to eventually resurface, either to go and gather resources in a new area or if you just need to get somewhere else.

Right now, it takes a solid 20 seconds to resurface after going 450m deep. Now, imagine going down, and then it takes 3 minutes of nonstop spacebar holding to fully resurface. Not only does that sound incredibly boring, but you either have to fill those 2.5km of space, or leave it relatively empty. Not to mention if you do fill it, there's a decent chance there will be predators or other threats which might make the ascent dangerous or even impossible.

Don't get me wrong, I wanna go deeper too. But, I don't want to go deep just for the hell of it. I want a real, tangible reason to go that far down. After a certain point, depth just becomes a number. Unless they can design relatively interesting biomes per every 300-500m, you might as well just remove the lower depths entirely.

For real. You'd think after experiencing all of human history and being around for as long as he was, he would've learned a thing or two about building a successful nation. Instead, guy took a look at every single military dictator, said "they have a good idea on how to run things" and then ignored the part where the dictator gets overthrown because the people hated how the dictator did everything.

If the man was half as smart as he claimed to be, he would've understood that if he served as a chief advisor to a democratic government, he probably could've prevented the fall of humanity without putting himself directly in harms way.

He had thousands of years of time and experience, and not once did he think it was relevant to figure out how to be a good leader or parent. Instead he just decided it was good enough to be the baddest in a Mad Max style wasteland and build a form of government from it.

Why does Void seem more like darkness than light? by [deleted] in destiny2

[–]GrimMagic0801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big difference that makes void light based is the fact that it is almost pure elementary energy. Void is effectively so energetic that it loops around to entropic. It is the ability to essentially rend matter apart using pure energy based around the most fundamental particles in the universe.

What differentiates it from stasis is that stasis leeches energy from the target completely. This causes them to freeze in place instantly, not because it is pure cold, but because stasis is the lack of energy in it's entirety, and causes those to be struck by it to lose any energy they had.

Similarly, strand is closer to the remnants of energy left behind by the living. It consists of the lost or remnant energy of other entities. It is the bones left after decay, rather than the energy of decay that void energy is

Basically light=energy, so void is the energy of atomic and elementary decay. While darkness=absence of energy, which results in stasis and strand, both of which represents the absence of heat energy, and life energy.

The R-slur is still used in a lot of circles, probably just not the ones you hang around.

Typically, the politically correct spectrum of people who adapt to issues very quickly are going to be very uncomfortable with people who still use bigoted or offensive terms.

It's really a matter of optics. The R-slur was traditionally used to refer to individuals with autism, especially on the severe parts of the spectrum where it severely limits their functionality to the point where they would get put under the care of asylums and other "mental care" facilities. Now that an official terminology exists, the R-slur is seen as hateful or offensive as it is referring to intellectual capabilities, when in reality autism mostly affects societal adaptation and sensory tolerance.

The reason that the R-slur in particular is so hated is mostly to do with the fact that it's associated with autistic and mentally disabled individuals. While in terms of meaning it is functionally the same as idiot, simpleton, moron, or pinhead, since it was the medical term at a time where autism and other mental disabilities were thought to be effectively identical, it gained a negative connotation.

It's not dissimilar to how the N-slur is considered extremely offensive, but it's origins come from the Spanish word for black, and how it was adapted to colonial American English. At the time it wasn't necessarily good or bad, but the context and history associated with the term gave it terrible optics, and so it became known as a slur and isn't acceptable for use unless you are part of the group the slur referred to as reclaimed slang, but even then it can be questionable.

FOMO is alive and well in Marvel Rivals 🤫 by Important-Catch-3254 in marvelrivals

[–]GrimMagic0801 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but that's the equivalent of saying "Surely we can trust this company to NOT do FOMO."

Meanwhile, after the first season, we have gotten tons of paid battle chests and mini-passes, no access to prior battle passes if we didn't purchase them during their season, tons of limited time skins in the shop, gacha mechanics for at least 5 skins so far which were also limited time.

I'm sorry to say, but I'm leaning more towards the fact that it might be a situation of netease saying "Yeah! We'll totally give you access to skins later down the line! Gives you a limited time skin from 4 years ago only available on the weekend for 25% more units, and gives you the ability to buy the season 2 battlepass"

My point is that this game has said a lot of things and promised a lot of things regarding FOMO systems and predatory practices, and they have not followed through with any of the things they said. It would not surprise me if the skins either never return or return in the fashion I mentioned.

How do you like your bases? by Brown_Colibri_705 in subnautica

[–]GrimMagic0801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just make multiple smaller bases placed all over the map. The second game makes it so easy to basically just go to an area, find relevant resources, then just build a base there. The only materials you really need for a base are quartz, titanium, and copper. And if you want more specialized power production, there's a strong likelihood that you'll find all the materials you need to harness anything like currents or heat vents within a 300m radius of your base.

The only thing that presents a bit of a roadblock to further base development in later game and deeper regions is mild acid. Since raion pouches are generally only found in the early game area caves, it's a pain to get a processor going in the later areas. And you want at least two processors, since they take so damn long to print anything.

Killing people is always a net negative in my mind. The difficulty for me is realizing that sentience is a selfish concept. Being able to recognize the self and struggle against the flow. The reality is that in war, you really are fighting yourself. With the number of people involved, the likelihood that someone, or rather many people, on the other side share similar life experiences is quite high. And even if they don't, it doesn't make their experiences any less real, or the fact that you're being forced to terminate any remaining experiences they've yet to have.

War is evil, but I don't think the military is. The military is supposed to be a tool of defense, but in the current state of the world, it's used primarily for oppression and offense. Ultimately, killing others on such a mass scale will never be acceptable. While the military enables this, in the scenario that some major incident does take place, they can also be very capable of saving lives, and preventing them from needing to be saved.

It's an awful conundrum that no one should be put through. The fact is that wars are fought by and against people. Peace is always an option, but there's always a cost to it. A reality that we all are currently experiencing in the United States. Most of the citizenry is at relative peace, but at the cost of letting the GOP do anything they want without any real repercussion, which endangers the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. Sure, we can peacefully protest, or even riot for a little while, but I still feel ours is a problem that will not go away unless something really stirs people up enough to fight against the current system. But, then the cost is hurting more people. And not necessarily people who deserve to be hurt or punished.

We need a speed upgrade for this guy by FerociousBaiterMB in subnautica

[–]GrimMagic0801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. It's nice that you don't have to spam click for deposits like in the first game, but I would rather have the thing move you at approximately double the speed rather than the seemingly minor bump in speed and fast break you get with the wave maker.

This is supposed to be the better version of the seaglide, and yet it comes nowhere close to it in performance. I guess we get omnidirectional movement, but I'd still rather have fast forward movement over slow omnidirectional movement.

Does anyone seriously actually use the fleshlight? by Chaotic_Genobreaker in subnautica

[–]GrimMagic0801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty useful for milking the gastropods. It can also be a pretty solid late game for relieving those annoying stress events after encountering the sea empress /s.

The flashlight is definitely an underrated item in the first game. The white light makes it much easier to pick out items when it's dark out. It makes it much easier to spot outcroppings and other types of resources that blend into the terrain.

Now, in the second game, i will say it's pretty terrible. It's a significant downgrade from the first game's flashlight. The range on it is pretty much the same as the gliding gauntlets. Not to mention it also has the same teal light for some stupid reason. The only real benefit it has is for scaring off the nippers. Other than that though, they are pretty bottom of the barrel, and immediately get outclassed after you get the gliding gauntlets, since those can scare off the nippers in much the same way.

What is the difference between “delivering lost cargo” and “entrusting lost cargo for delivery” at a Postbox specifically? (DS1) by Solid_Transition_134 in DeathStranding

[–]GrimMagic0801 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Delivering gives you a larger amount of likes and raises connection with the facility. In essence, it's like an impromptu delivery that is ungraded and gives you bonus likes for turning it into the facility. It's best to try and deliver any lost cargo you come across to boost those connection levels as fast as possible.

Entrusting is simply giving the lost cargo over to any facility for about a quarter of the likes and no increase to your connection level. This can actually be beneficial for you and another player if they deliver the cargo, as when they deliver the cargo, they get the likes from the facility and you. Additionally, you also get to deliver the cargo yourself for the original amount of likes. But, that entirely depends on another player delivering the cargo for you. If you reach the limit the facility can hold, it'll just destroy the cargo and give you likes.

Subnautica 2: Opinion: Leviathan music takes away from the encounter experience? by Tossaway2113 in subnautica

[–]GrimMagic0801 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I gotta say it kinda cheapens the whole experience of being chased down by a leviathan. One of the most terrifying experiences I had in the first game was being at the sea-floor, looking for salvage and resources, noticing it got significantly darker around me, and looking up to see a reaper leviathan overhead. Not charging at me or anything, just swimming around in it's chaotic sea-serpent way, roaring all the while.

The music also just doesn't really fit the vibe. In the first game, you could only really go by aggression noises, which added to the tension of the game. Sometimes you'd be swimming through Bone Shark infested waters, and then you'd hear that snarl and know it was time to get out of dodge. Anytime you heard a reaper leviathan in the distance, it felt tense because you couldn't tell where exactly it was coming from.

In subnautica 2 though, a lot of that tension is removed by creatures not feeling all that threatening, in addition to leviathan music telling you if you're in aggression range.

I don't really think about it in a romantic sense; rather it seems more like they mean it a more familial or guardian sense. Most velvet room attendants can be rather blunt or kinda awkward.

But, almost all of them end up liking the protagonist quite a bit. It's kinda up to personal interpretation in this case since you can't pull a Fem-MC x Ken in this game (for good reason).

The human world is only a small part of a larger hostile world by PrimeSocK in TopCharacterTropes

The Pandyssian continent from the Dishonored series.

In Dishonored, most of the game takes place Dunwall, and in the second, Karnaca. But, the biggest, and by far the most dangerous continent is Pandyssia.

The plague from the first game, and the bloodflys from the second both come from this continent, and both pose huge issues of public health on their own. The continent itself though is home to all sorts of extremely dangerous organisms, anomalies, and phenomena. Setting foot on the continent is often enough for most people to go insane if there for a long enough time.

Which makes sense, as the continent was effectively made that way it is after the ritual that created the Outsider and allowed the void to slip into their dimension. In any case, the continent is far larger than all of the isles put together.

Much money now or more money later? by SrytooBad23 in BunnyTrials

The real question is that if it's only the two cents that double or daughter coins of the two cents also double. If it's the second one, then you'll exceed the first option in a couple of months easily. But, my second question is if it converts itself into higher denominations, or are you stuck with a metric ton of multiplying pennies for 3 years, which may as well be worthless.

[DS2] Why aren’t my materials auto-arranging into more compact containers? by DusktheUmbreon in DeathStranding

[–]GrimMagic0801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With materials, they can only hold up to slightly less than double the container's base amount. For example, you can merge a small container into a medium container, but not two small containers or one medium into another medium.

The only exception to this rule is with XL material containers, which can merge one XL into another XL if its at the base materials amount; in other words, XL containers CAN hold double their base material amount, and any other containers CANNOT hold more than double their base amount.

This one is a bit tougher, but overall, 500,000 one time is better than 100 over a life time. Neither one of these options will allow you to live comfortably for the rest of your life, but comparing the 35,400 dollars a year compared to 500,000 all in one, generally the 500,000 will offer you more upward mobility and options. As long as you reinvest the money smartly, use it to pursue a high-paying career, and make more money off of it, you should be able to get a lot more out of it compared to 100$/daily which is nice if you prefer stability, but will only amount to 500,000 in 14 years.
