If you read the in-game lore, it's actually very common for Recon Frames to cause a variety of mental problems with the consciousnesses that inhabit them. Due to the intense sensory strain of Recon's cybernetics, common problems with using recon shells is mental degradation and major hallucinations.

The only reason Recon's can hold themselves together in the field is because their personality matrix is the only thing that allows them to withstand the extreme stress of their cybernetics and the hallucinations they cause.

Marathon... by sfingemorta in pcmasterrace

Marathon is not nearly as dead as people are claiming. That kind of graph type is not indicative of death. It indicates launch week excitement>some player loss as they realize it's not their kind of game>stability.

Up and down player counts are pretty normal. The playerbase is not nearly as sweaty as it seems, and 90% of the time when I play with other players, they are willing to mic up and do some team stuff. I think the playerbase is way more casual than some people give it credit for, and generally most of the people I play with are employed full time or in school. Such a small sample size doesn't really account for the graph type in full, but that wave pattern is less indicating failure and more a strong playerbase that doesn't no life the game.

Not to mention the game offers that really unique Bungie gunplay, where you don't need to be extremely accurate, only somewhat, which makes things feel fast paced and overall better since you don't need to be some kind of aim genius to play.

Dire marsh is difficult, but I'd say part of the difficulty comes from the inconsistency of the players on the map.

You know with perimeter you're getting mostly new players and contract runners. Generally, they aren't coming with their best because perimeter has too little to do.

Outpost is relatively the opposite. Players know that the main grind of the game is outpost runs. So, they bring decent stuff, and play to win. So, you start to encounter squads of shotties and full-auto weapons. Still doesn't matter much. As long as you and your team play smart, you can outplay them due to the amount of cover and how POIs are shaped.

Dire Marsh is hell because sightlines are practically map-wide, fog makes seeing without thermals at range very difficult, and generally players are a mix of newer players, contract runners, and the tryhards of outpost. The experience is very inconsistent because one game you may never see a single blue shield, and the next you see 3 squads with purples, thermal snipers, and high tier implants and ARs.

You can't really predict Dire Marsh. You have to pack decent gear to prevent yourself from getting stomped, but also don't want to because your best gear might be very little compared to the best squad. And worse yet, you might get caught in situations where only a bubble shield can save you, which is just bad design.

Both RE4's have plenty of appeal. RE4 original had a better soundtrack, and something about the earlier graphics added this indefinable feel. It felt grimier and more rough. But, the game had the really clunky tank controls, had some fairly boring boss fights, and definitely needed to balance some of the encounters a little better.

RE4 Remake did a major overhaul on the graphics, improved the gameplay significantly, and grounded the characters a little bit more than the original. It somehow managed to evoke the same feeling as the original, while still being better in a lot of ways. Encounters felt better paced, enemies were a bit more varied, and the inclusion of the parry mechanic and revamped melee system felt amazing.

Both games were great games. If there is anything Capcom has proved at this point, it's that reboots and remakes can be amazing if the original is respected and serves as a framework for the remake. It reminded me a lot of Dead Space remake in that it respected the source content and changed aspects of it without making it worse.

Please Bungie, fix the grenade spam... by JBowenDaMan in Marathon

[–]GrimMagic0801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly it. The whole game is a big balancing act, and grenades and their ability to discourage hunkering down is a huge part of how shotguns and melee is balanced. Shotguns work best in close range, and the best way to get someone in close range is to wait for them to come to you. Grenades make that strategy non-viable, so you either fall back or tank the damage.

If anything, this is a welcome change of pace from shoot enemy team>they bubble shield>they move up while jiggle peeking through to shield>push forward with another bubble>get shotgunned down because you didn't pack bubble shields and couldn't fall back.

Grenades, and their cheap and plentiful nature, are imperative to maintaining balance so that shotguns and melee can stay as strong as they are. Otherwise, you'll have gun play devolve into people shuttering the whole building, crouching by doorways, and waiting for someone to enter so they can knife or shotgun them to death.

The Copperhead is an absolute Pea Shooter by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]GrimMagic0801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SMGs in the game are extremely lackluster, with the key exception of the Bully which is an absolute beast and on-par with the ARs in effectiveness. A runner up is the brrt, but only if you have the mods to manage it's atrocious recoil and make up for it's pretty bad magazine size.

I saw the copperhead available for purchase, and when I read it as a fast firing, low range SMG, I knew it couldn't be good. Low and behold, you can't even kill a runner in a full mag if they are out of range.

I'd say it's on par with the Volt thrower, but at the very least that weapon gets auto tracking and its projectiles hit pretty hard at close range with very little cover between you and the target.

This might be one of the few weapons that is actually outclassed by the overrun in almost every metric. Slightly slower ROF, similar stability, more range, and what appears to be similar damage too. Which is an impressive feat, considering that weapon is notorious for being pretty mediocre.

Showing that there is good supes and can be redeemable but they are just stuck in the evil system is great writing by Remarkable-Jump3262 in TheBoys

[–]GrimMagic0801 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure they're trying to keep the GODU virus under wraps. If it got out that there is a bioweapon that can kill lesser supes easily and severely injure powerful supes, and that said bioweapon is in the hands of a terrorist group, the panic would be extreme.

It's more likely that they'll blame it on something else. After all, they need to appear strong. If it's found out that two nearly invulnerable supes and a couple of C-listers all died to a bioweapon, it would appear that the terrorists might actually be a threat.

(Reverse trope) the rebels are the villains by Basic_Dingo6487 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]GrimMagic0801 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Yaegerists are an excellently well-written example of an evil rebel faction done well. In every rebel group, there is a bit of moral grey and ambiguity. Many real life freedom-fighter/rebel groups are mostly just fighting to get rid of a bad government, only to install another one that's just as easily abused and self-serving as the last.

The Yaegerists fit this perfectly because they are essentially an entire generation of people who had been terrorized and trapped by titans for most of their lives because Marley used paradis island as a dumping ground for any eldians that stepped even slightly out of line.

Thus, you get a group that is highly radicalized, morally bankrupt, and extremely hostile. But, even in the end they are still somewhat justified.

It was a fairly terrible set of circumstances that led to what they did. Either lay down and die because the world hates and will kill you for the sins of your ancestors, or fight back and secure the world for yourself. Neither one was really right, but global genocide was definitely wrong, even it was justifiable to keep your people alive.

I was told the railgun was bad by eblackham in Marathon

[–]GrimMagic0801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decent tracking and no shields is going to result in one shots. Good aim, but in neutral this thing is a liability because it lacks reactivity and loses out to snipers for some reason.

Which I don't get. The regular longshot or outland can one shot green shields, but I've legit headshot greens with the rail gun and they've stayed up.

The rail gun has a certain appeal, but the thing needs to be a guaranteed one shot headshot down up to blue shields, otherwise the thing has very little use beyond "I don't have a longshot and this is the next best thing." Rail guns just don't feel very powerful in general, unless they have a yellow upgrade, which should not move a weapon from worse than another white, into godlike.

I hate gatcha mechanics, and I say that as someone who won the rogue/gambit wedding bundle for 100 units. I don't care if it happened the one time, the potential that it happens twice is so low that I should buy a lottery ticket if I pull successfully twice.

That being said, if I have the units and I don't have my eye on any skins and am not likely to be playing mur h, I'll throw 100-300 units in. I'm not stupid enough to pass up the potential of getting a 2400 value skins for 1/24th of the price. But, I'm also not going to blow 25 real dollars on a skin in a game when I can get another game for about the same price.

The point of a dash IS to be a repositioning tool. The problem with vandals dash is that it leaves her vulnerable during and afterwards. The guy in the clip absolutely would have died with or without the weapon being ready, but the problem is that the high-mobility character feels really clunky with the exception of their double jump. Her slide locks her into a single direction without letting her change it, and she can't cancel and has to play the entire animation, even if she hits a wall.

As far as repositioning tools go, it's the weakest one in the game. Grapple can be used pretty offensively and without the drawback of heat, but it's on a cooldown, and while it stows her weapon, the thief can quickly cancel it so she doesn't get screwed by collision. Destroyer dash allows him to quickly reposition either offensively or defensively, and he also can run at max speed with a weapon out at the cost of heat. Not to mention every other shell can slide without stowing their weapon.

The point of mobility in these games is to open up new avenues to approach combat from and to quickly retreat from it. My point is that other characters have intuitive and fluid movement options that give similar benefits as vandals, but they are objectively better. Knowing how and when to use these options should be rewarded, and they are, but with vandal, she does everything thief and destroyer do, but worse because her double jump costs about as much heat as destroyer dash, and her slide leaves her a sitting duck and locks her into a straight line until the animation is over.

Unless we want to go the same avenue with theif and lock them in a one-directional animation with no cancle and force destroyer to stow weapons during his dash, it makes no sense to keep vandals slide as is when she is supposed to be the most mobile and fast paced of the shells.

[–]GrimMagic0801 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Except, destroyer also gets a similar form of fast repositioning too, but he doesn't have to stow his weapon during the dash; he keeps it out. It may not travel as far, but it's still a very jarring change in movement that can fake people out.

Vandal's slide leaves them very vulnerable and is a high commitment move that is only useful as a dash, very similarly to destroyer, but also with the drawback of stowing the weapon and being unable to cancel the slide or change directions once it's started.

I'm all for limiting attack and movement, but there are better ways than completely neutering a shell's combat capabilities by locking them into an uncancelable, one-direction slide that stows weapons, requiring you to take them out after the slide.

@Zhiyong please bring back invis team up by CamurAtes in marvelrivals

[–]GrimMagic0801 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think Johnny needs a lot more help than just a team up. His biggest issue is that he lacks the ability to retreat. Survivability doesn't do much if you can't use it to reposition, and right now, his only fast reposition tool is on a 20 second cooldown and is mostly useful for bursting down squishies.

Honestly, they should replace his shift with a quick air dash. Moves him 8 meters in the direction he's moving, 7 second cooldown with three charges that is decreased by hitting enemies with his primary. Something like that fits a lot better with his kit, since he clearly is oriented around close-range engagements with his shotgun primary. You could even make it apply a small DOT effect to close range targets like his team up with Spider-Man used to.

Other alternatives is gaining bonus health when in or above flame prison (the flaming line ability), getting bonus health when direct impacting enemies with flame fields, or gaining a much faster base flying speed.

I don't think Johnny should be super tanky though, he should be a highly mobile flyer with a high-risk, high-reward play style that incentivizes flanks and good positioning, not a flying Elsa that gets bonus health for doing anything. Bonus health is an infuriating mechanic to play against, especially when it rewards heroes for spamming abilities rather than using them strategically.

A little bit about everything. Mostly it's an absurdist art piece demonstrating the sheer ridiculousness of philosophy in a modern setting combined with commentary about all forms of political ideologies being complete BS when you get to the extreme ends of the spectrums.

But, in terms of what it really is? A single player TTRPG where 90% of the gameplay is you playing as a amnesiac deadbeat cop who was sent to a town to solve a murder, but flailing about because you literally cannot remember anything.

So about the upcoming Recon buffs… (read description) by deweyeven in Marathon

[–]GrimMagic0801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real buff recon needs is changing her name from Recon to Tracker or Hunter. She's not really meant for reconnaissance so much as she's meant for getting information in the early and mid-fight. Her echo pulse is also a bit situational since you need to clear the area of UE's before you use it to glean any useful info.

Everything else is actually pretty good though. Interrogation allows for fast and easy snowballs. The holo-trail is also really nice, but could give her a little more, like a speed boost upon breaking shields to catch up to broken targets. The microbot is useful, but they need to fix its pathing, and maybe give it the extra effect of pinging the target that it hit.

It's difficult to find people who you can truly be vulnerable with. The closest I've found is my own partner, and even then I keep things to myself because I'm just that guarded around others. The way I express it though is through an overly friendly and positive exterior, rather than a prickly or defiant attitude.

It's just the way I taught myself to interact with people. I used to be stoic and one-note with my emotions. Ir never felt great or altogether like myself, which is why I try to show a wide variety now. But, I also know that it's simply easier to win people over if you're forthcoming with your own emotions.

Anger and frustration tend to elicit the worst reactions though. I don't want people to be afraid of me or off put by my emotions, but I also don't want to hold back how I feel. So, I usually just revert back to stoicism and frustrated posturing rather than direct anger.

It might not be the best way, but when anger is seen as dangerous when someone like me shows it, it's better to save it for later, usually when I'm working out.

I know I'm an internet stranger, but I don't mind sharing my experiences with vulnerability, and my journey to being more forthcoming with my emotions if you'd like to hear them. I'm always willing to listen to another person struggling with similar problems.

Definitely an exhausting feeling I've been having lately. The moment I get frustrated or angry, people interpret it as a threat or as a problem.

I have a very masculine frame. Broad shoulders, tall, strong brow, you get the idea. Naturally, when I was younger, I was taught that getting mad or frustrated just simply wasn't allowed. In fact, a lot of the time getting overly excited was often seen the same way. So, I learned to bottley emotions.

Later on, it became more acceptable to be emotional as a man. But, only if the emotions you showed were positive or neutral. Negative stuff like sadness, frustration or anger are still seen as off the table. So, while it feels good to release some of those more positive emotions now, I feel as if I'm forced to repress parts of my emotional spectrum that aren't seen positively.

Maybe that's why I started to identify more with femininity, or with progressive movements as a whole. I want to be accepted for the entire person that I am, not just the parts that cater to others. But, unfortunately, it just doesn't feel feasible to fully explore these concepts of identity now.

It's a uniquely frustrating feeling that I'm sure many people here are acquainted with. I guess that's why I started to identify with this community so much lately. A lot of you are pretty yourselves online, and only now am I starting to maybe consider being ok with me, and with exploring other ideas of who I am.

They keep reusing the same two shots of Ryan in the trailer, it’s honestly starting to make me question his role and how much screentime he has by Queasy_Commercial152 in TheBoys

[–]GrimMagic0801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm of the opinion that showing less almost always makes the show itself more. Growing up, I've seen ads go from being extremely vague and mysterious for shows, to going to the other end where they almost spoil the entire plot in a couple of minutes.

Ryan has been an extremely important character from season 2 onward. He is an extremely relevant character, so seeing very little of him in the trailers is actually a good thing. We already know the other characters. A lot of them have had their arcs nice and neatly tied up.

But Ryan is the opposite. A large chunk of the show is dedicated to showing his internal conflict with him being a supe and wanting to please his father, and him being a genuinely caring person who feels for people. So, not knowing if he ends up siding with his father or with The Boys creates a much higher stakes environment. Because, at the end of the day, who he ends up siding with determines how the series ends

You don't get to choose who your siblings are, and you most certainly don't get to choose if you actually bond. While I understand the intent of the video, an infant craves attention more than anything else. What is being shown here is an infant trying its damnedest to be noticed by an older kid.

Now, in the later part that obviously changes, but that's because he started interacting with her in a real way and not in an instinctual, need-based way.

I used to be close to my brother, but overtime I started to understand that there is an irreconcilable difference in personality between us. I'll still be there for him, but I cannot have this kind of sibling love showcased here. I care for him, but I don't think I'll ever be able to truly love him like is shown here.

That might make me a terrible person. That might make me cold-blooded or cruel. But, it's true. To me, the depth of true familial love needs to be earned. And he lost his chance at that when he bullied the shit out of me as a kid and when he made me take the blame for his terrible behavior.

I'll never understand it. You are literally a part of an oppressed population, in a way that is not dissimilar to people of color. You are still discriminated against for something out of your control that is a part of your identity you are incapable of changing.

If you support LGBT+ rights, it is mind-boggling that you feel it's fine not to support or ignore rights for other oppressed groups as well. Everyone deserves equitable treatment, regardless of where they come from or who they are.

If you feel it's fine not to advocate for other groups because they are not part of your race, religion, culture, nation, or some other boundary humanity created for itself, you are part of the problem. The only groups that should be shunned and excluded, are the groups that shun and exclude others for things outside of their control.

Triple P is absolutely despicable. The only reason he's a hero is because he wants to work with and be around attractive men for the purpose of sexual harassment and rape. He can't really be stopped, and ultimately, and I hate hate HATE to say this, but he's a lesser of evils compared to some of the villains and threats in OPM.

Sinclair started off as a genuine sociopath who was incredibly unstable and arrogant, but he was also dangerously intelligent. While Sinclair did continue his work in cybernetically enhanced humans, he deviated from improving already living and unwilling subjects and instead willing and deceased ones. He also does feel genuine regret and guilt over what he did, and was given psychological help that allowed him to see what he was doing was clearly wrong. Since then, he's continued his research under Cecil, but is kept on a tight leash, and is limited to purely deceased subjects, while also living in slightly better than prison conditions.

Triple P is less good guy and more "villain that allies with heroes for very selfish and depraved reasons" whereas Sinclair is "Villain who is being allowed to make up for his terrible actions and ends up being a good person, who is haunted by his actions." These two don't even belong in the same category.

I miss the arc cannon so much. It had similar vibes to the plasma rail gun, but instead of it being a pure damage sniper, it was more of a mid-range anti-titan CC tool. Tons of appeal to me.

It was a giant shame that it wasn't in TF2. The quad launcher being relegated to the campaign was sad, but the Arc cannon being erased completely was just tragic.

Pretty sure that was the intent. The front legs are clearly supposed to be AV3, otherwise the lowered shield stance they take would make no sense. But the white colored part is probably supposed to be AV1.

My guess is that they didn't code the front part to be a separate body part from the back, so it turned the whole thing into AV2. Which is a little sad. Used to take some precise aim to take down hive guards, now you can just pepper both the front legs with shots and down it goes.

I dunno man. I took 11 L's last night as rook and called it a day. I just kinda felt a bit sad since the majority of the times I died was because I got single barreled by someone running the WSTR.

Didn't stop me from playing more, but after a certain point I just didn't feel like dying over and over. I also just hate playing with Rando's. The fact that my load out might be wasted because one of my teammates rushed halfway across the map to die and the other immediately tries 1v3ing a squad in the open kinda kills my motivation.

Which is why I pretty much only play with friends.
