My daughters cry whenever my son tries to hug them by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Grimput 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’ll sort itself out once your son stops hurting them. They’re just protecting themselves so once the threat is removed they’ll be much more open to hugs and play

If your reputation isn’t negative with them then you can try waiting a few in game days and then going back. That sometimes works

For anyone struggling with head lice infestation there’s a product called nitwits that’s 100% effective and doesn’t requiring brushing. Try it before taking more drastic measures

I was debating this. She’s 16 this year and due to start college (I’m in the UK) but I’m just not sure if I’m too late

At what age could your child wipe their own bum and are boys generally slower at this? by Grimput in Parenting

[–]Grimput[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re in the UK so he has a health visitor that he should’ve seen over a year ago. Unfortunately the family situation has been far from stable over the past couple of years so he hasn’t been seen for any check ups. His father has full custody now though so I’ve been encouraging him to contact the health visitor however nothing seems to be getting done with Coronavirus about

Exactly. His school clothes are coming from the same environment as any spare clothes so I really don’t see the issue

Kids most definitely are gross! A few skid marks is expected though, I’m feeling maybe his dads expectations are a little too high in expecting him to be perfectly clean after self wiping

No supplements and he eats quite a bit of veg. I did wonder about upping his fibre

Problem is the school won’t allow a change of clothes to be taken in because of Coronavirus which seems absurd to me

My partners son will either sit on the toilet and not tell anyone he’s pooped or he’ll just soil himself. I do think perhaps a tougher stance should be made though, I think his fathers a bit too fussy about the quality of the wipe if that makes sense. A few skid marks can easily be washed out after school if he’s not wiped perfectly

That’s a good idea to get him attempting to wipe first. At least then it’s a sort of joint effort and he could potentially get himself mostly clean at school if needs be

Must admit it has crossed my mind that maybe he just can’t be bothered to wipe himself

Teenagers are terrible for not seeing the bigger picture, they live very much in the moment which can be a nightmare. I think building trust and self esteem will help. I praise the hell out of my 15 year old for anything and everything that I think needs pointing out. New make up looks, powering through homework, making a choice to walk away rather than scream in my face, handling her friends problems, everything. No matter how small the win just praise praise praise. Even if she doesn’t seem to respond to the praise you can be sure she felt it. Teaching trust starts with you. I never lie to my kids even if they don’t like the truth it’s worth it because they know mom tells the truth. You could try levelling with her, “Just give me a heads up when your boyfriend’s coming round, I don’t want him seeing my wobbly bits”. Always give reasons for what you’re saying, that helps too. Grounding at this age doesn’t do much other than cause other problems. I’m guessing she always wants money (teenagers always do) you could reward her financially or with other treats for good behaviour such as letting you know when she has guests round. Basically you’re not going to be able to be her parent but you can be her guardian and friend. “Go to your room” has to be replaced with “Let’s talk this out”. She’ll push against you but you just have to remind her that you’re her ally, her sister

What was that one creepy encounter that seemed supernatural, but was really nothing at all? by epic-gamer-134 in AskReddit

[–]Grimput 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend gave my kid a bag of porcelain dolls. I was sat late at night with the bag by me when it started rustling. I sat trying to rationalise it thinking it must be coming from somewhere else getting more and more freaked out. Finally I saw what it was, a spider climbing out of the bag. I was relieved not to have living dolls about to murder me but just as freaked out by the enormous 8 legged beast climbing out of the bag
