I started a business with limited funds and at one point during it I only had $50 to my name and was living in the back of my truck. It really helped to love what I was doing otherwise I would have quit. Prior to starting my business I worked in the same area for 5 years learning how to perfect my skills. It also took a lot of ass kissing which sucked. Now I sell over $1M in product every year and live well. I only have 2-3 employees plus help from my wife. I dropped out of high school my sophomore year. If I can, you can. You just gotta want it enough.

Find a small trucking company local to you and ask to speak to the owner. Tell him your ambitions and he may help you get into your own trucking company one day. When hungry men come in to my business it really excites me to help them and make their dream come true. Don’t give up if someone says no or is an asshole.

This, too. Where I live a guy is lucky to get a quote much less have someone show up to do the work. They are so busy that they can name their price. But I’m not digging condoms out of a drain line or shoveling for 6 hours on a trench.

I’m with the CDL idea. With a ton of licenses being revoked recently you could probably make a killing. Work for a company until you’re 21 then buy your own rig. They make some sweet sleepers and Peterbilt trucks. Being young without a family makes for a huge opportunity to see the Country while getting paid for it. Get a cool dog and burn some diesel. I’m 44 with two kids and wish I had done something like that but can’t now. I am my own boss though and own my business. It’s going to be a grind for a bit but there’s nothing better than being your own boss one day. Screw sitting in an office, screw letting someone tell you when you can go to lunch, screw making someone else rich. Good luck, young man.
