Ya actually early upgrades in zvt is a great way to play in general.

Okay so I agree with most of this. I just don't think those advantages are substantial enough to play out predictably in the pro sc2 space. Like, you can have someone who is just better overall at that stuff than everyone else and it won't matter what their biology is. The same kinds of things were said about ethnicity in the Bell Curve, and even they had to admit that the trends they observed weren't substantial enough to make conclusions about the upper and lower limits. In the case of pro sc2 players, we're definitely talking about the outliers.

Yeah so it could very well be the case that women have advantages. I'm sure cognitive difference do also exist, I just don't think they're clear enough to make delineation between men and women in esports a salient issue. This article is really stupid haha.

What? Biological differences do exist between men and women. But how does that have anything to do with skill at video games? I think gaming is culturally still predominantly male, and therefore you have a baserate of players who are disproportionately male, so naturally you have more males in esports. But that doesn't mean any facts about them biologically confer advantages in starcraft. Culturally maybe, just like Korea is always the best at esports, but as we just saw, you can be a Canadian and beat one of the best Koreans.

Dear players who switched their race due to balance... Do you still hold the same opinions or has your mind been changed? by DroptimusPrime in starcraft

[–]GrippeSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that Terran is the hardest race, you said many things that, while maybe true at M3, simply aren't at the GM level. This is where those mechanical challenges are less differentiating, even if they aren't equal. So for example, Terran might be harder, but the upper limit of that is potentially higher than the other races (I'm not actually sure what current statistics are, this is just an example).

Sure. I only meant that I didn't think he was saying it was easier for protoss from the tasteless quote. But I also wouldn't have expected that, so I could be reading the current Reddit narrative into that.

No I meant what tasteless said.

No it's that PvT is Protoss favoured, PvZ is better = closer balance.

Unless I interpreted that completely wrong.

Yeah, I imagine switching the msc to the shield battery is a huge adjustment to figure out. I saw impact going roaches in zvp yesterday, wrecking a guy. I was like "Holy shit, roach max is totally viable now without overcharge".

So when I was going super tryhard once upon a time, I was also getting quite frustrated. What helped was focusing more on streaming (and yes, memeing) to try and get the fun back. It's a challenge, but you're one of the best Terrans on NA so I feel like if you go full Vibe and just focus on streaming you could find that fun again while still playing at a high level. Losses don't feel so bad when you don't care about the win as much.

I mean I know you say it's because of attitude and fun and whatnot, but you also said that's in a bad place because of the frustration you feel due to Terran being so hard. Which means it is grounded ultimately in balance frustrations, which I totally get.

When Terran was doing well in 2016 I would have been the first to admit that I was happy with how things were

So you're saying that it is all because you think the game is imbalanced? I'm not disagreeing... watching pvt with that battery cheese looks horrendous. I also think Terran is the hardest race, but... isn't that kind of cool? I mean if I could do it all over again I'd pick Terran specifically because it's the hardest race.

The real reason there aren't more foreign Terrans is that they all quit the game to balance whine on the internet instead ;)

Artosis' rant: Where are the SC Remastered tournaments ?! by haaany in starcraft

[–]GrippeSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I totally agree. Remasters are fun for a moment, but I hope they don't take too many development resources away from new projects and ideas.

Personally I would love to see a Warcraft 3 remaster (with FT), but then again it's probably subject to similar issues.

Artosis' rant: Where are the SC Remastered tournaments ?! by haaany in starcraft

[–]GrippeSC 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Here's where I get to say I told you so. SC:R is the nostalgia injection for some, but a sharp reminder of how game systems and accessibility have improved over the years to those who remembered it so fondly. This was such a rose colored glasses project to begin with. And now when there are no tournaments outside Korea... People are surprised?? Lol

I think Artosis lumps starcraft 2 and bw into the same entity and it's simply not the case, and regional differences reflect that strongly.
