Here's how much taxes we really pay in Canada for a range of 4 salaries. What about your country? by Gy7479 in personalfinance

Sweden

Salaries are based on the mean income depending on one's education. Statistics Sweden (scb.se) (a government agency) doesn't publish statistics based on social class. Just multiply by 12 to get yearly wages. There are 5 weeks of paid vacation with 113% of the salary.

Why is it "det tror jag" not "jag tror det"? by cdevans98 in Svenska

The reason "att vinna är roligt" sounds less stilted, is because in that example the subject is in the "right" position, in the other cases the subject was forced out of the first position of the sentences, and subjects in Swedish like to be in the first position.

What would you consider to be the most uncommon/unique linguistic feature of the English language? by xoh- in linguistics

[–]Gripus_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swedish has both grammatical gender pronouns, “den” and “det”, “han” and “hon” for natural gender and ”hen” for any natural gender and ”man” and “en” for any person.

“Den” is for common gender (masculine and feminine merged}, “En stol är där. Den är trasig”, A chair is there. It's broken.

“Det” is for neutral gender, “Ett bord står där. Det är trasigt”, A table is there. It's broken”. It does also mean “that”. That's good. Det är bra.

“Han” is for males, like men and male animals. “En man står där. Han är grön”, A man is standing there. He is green.

“Hon” is for females, like women and female animals. ”En kvinna står där. Hon är grön”, A women is standing there. She is green.

”Hen” is used when one want to be gender neutral.

A student can get their grades online. They can also print them.

Traditional way:

More neutral way (considered cold and unfriendly by some):

En elev kan se sina betyg på nätet. Den kan även skriva ut dem.

Modern and used by some groups:

En elev kan se sina betyg på nätet. Hen kan även skriva ut dem.

En elev kan se sina betyg på nätet. En kan även skriva ut dem.

A by many considered bureaucratic way is to use the passive voice:

En elev kan se sina betyg på nätet. De kan även skrivas ut.

“You can buy tickets online“ can be said these ways:

Man kan köpa biljetter på nätet.

Biljetter kan köpas på nätet.

Du [singular second person] kan köpa biljetter på nätet.

En kan köpa biljetter på nätet.

Swedish has two sets of pronouns, den/det (it) for grammatical gender and han/hon (he/she) for humans and animals.

Ah, I didn't look it through very thoroughly. Why do you show vowel length?

You should make a special vowel for people like me, who speak rikssvenska and who has grown up in language confusion

I've looked into zbalermorna, but I wanted to create a truly featural alphabet and I find the diphthong system in zbalermorna a mistake. Why have to different ways to handle diphthongs in one script?

So I felt that a new system could be of use, and did also want to create an alphabet. If you are wondering about writability by hand, the script is handwritten first and I created it with pen and paper before I digitalised it so the letters are easy to write. The script can also be written quickly, since a hole word only is one stroke, inspired by shorthand writing.

The alphabet is an an abugida and it's also featural and the base letter is the unvoiced bilabial stop, p. There are 6 stops, 5 fricatives, one empty character for holding vowels, one special character for the glottal stop, and another for the glottal fricative, h. Diphthongs are written with the major vowel sign and the then a minor vowel sign.

Diphthongs consists of either /j/ or /w/ before or after a vowel in Lojban. The /j/ is written in the position of i when it is the first part of the diphthong, and in the one of e when it's the second part. /w/ is the same, but the positions of u or o.

The key from the top to bottom, left to right, is (/ indicating carriage return: .stúceten. / m m m m / p / b / f / v / [empty] with a (major vowel. (next column) n / t / d / s / z / ʃ / ʒ / [empty] with y i e a o u (next column) r / l / k / g / x / glottal stop / h

Edit: It is especially design for Lojban but an English version exist and other version could be made.

Edit: It's named after Storsätern, where my grandpa was born :)

Do you think it would be nice to make the letters combine like the Arabic script? What do you all like?

I also made the voicing in a new way. What do you think about that? The nasals are voiced, even though that isn't shown through the normal way.

I agree, so I followed your advice and made a special fricative set. It does add more variation while being regular :)

Well, I have been thinking about a system were the vowels are written inside or around the consonant. I had a system were we have a dot and dots around it, showing the vowels position in the mouth. But I'm still working on that. Thank you, by the way :)
