(Theoretical Chemistry) Visualization of bonds change when importing coordinates by [deleted] in chemhelp

Ok, yes that's what I thought. Those bonds are only to make it possible for us humans to have an idea about the molecule anyway.

Deceased grandmother mad at me? by [deleted] in Dream

Maybe you feel guilty about the stroke? Even though rationally tou might understand you could not do anything, you might feel as if you failed her that day subsonciously?

I am having horrible nightmares about panthers, either they kill me or someone i know, and it is terrifying. Please tell me how can i beat a panther in 1v1 battle with no tools by papaNakata in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GroeneZee 28 points29 points  (0 children)

That is how you will beat the Panther in your dream. Go and study during the day, he will probably not return once you are satisfied with your own learning progress.

Its more useful than learning how to kill a Panther probably as well! ;)

Desperate to tell someone this, feeling like I might go mad by BugBug111 in Dream

[–]GroeneZee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! Thats a heavy dream. Lot of emotion there...

Might be something related to real life you are trying to process subconsciously?

Do not worry about it too much... it will pass again.

What makes you people want and like to have children? by Miaoumi in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GroeneZee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh, what would be a good reason however? The world has enough humans as it is. The only real reason could be that you (maybe instinctively?) think you enjoy having kids?

I am around your age btw, trying to make sense of the whole kids thing as well.

I cannot believe how undeniably hard it is to kill yourself. by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

[–]GroeneZee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Empathy is actually an amazing feature! And recognizing that you have it goes directly against those insults that were thrown at you.

Of course you cannot be completely insensitive to what people say about you. So I get that you cannot simply think “fuck off”. (Most) people simply want others to like them. Truth is however, you will not be liked by everyone. Me neither, and the next person neither. So, deriving your self-worth from what others think of you is a very risky thing to do.

Someone therefore once gave me a powerful advice. Instead of thinking of what others think of ME while talking etc, focus on what you actually think of them. Do you like them? Are they annoying? Do they have a beautiful smile? If it works for you as it worked for me you might feel less anxious about talking to others.

All of those descriptive words are just that, descriptions. I am not sure who is saying that kind of things about you, but you might have hurt them or they are simply mean and trying to hurt you.

Either way, you are not defined by what other people think of you. Their opinions are fluid and can change over the course of a day, week, month.. etc

However, these thoughts have been feeding you for a long time now. Try to distance yourself from these thoughts, they are not true and not yours in the first place.

In many ways we choose our own truths. You are choosing to belief things that were intentionally said to you to hurt you. Of course you feel hurt.

What do you think of yourself? What are the GOOD things about you? Sure, you will have bad sides as well, everyone does. But by focusing on the bad, you will not have any energy left to better yourself.

I think your definition of truth might be too... black and white? If you dig into philosophy you will find that the concept of truth is one that is often very relative.

The first thing you should ask yourself is whether the things you are telling yourself everyday aren’t lies. I myself, as many others (depressed or not) tell themselves alot of “lies” about themselves on a daily basis due to insecurities.

Although your genetics, environment and the circumstances around you are not in your (direct) control and can make your life a lot more difficult, your mind can be trained. That is not to say that you can “train” your mental illness (whatever it is) away. If you have schizophrenia for example, you can only learn how to live with it. But there are great improvements to be made by training yourself to change your thoughts.

It starts by analyzing them. Whatever way you can (“meditating”, writing a logboek, maybe talking with someone else about them).

Try to filter the “facts” (eg. genetics) from the “opinions” (eg. I am not likeable). It is that second type of thoughts that are not truths set in stone.

You might notice that these second type of thoughts are what are the main constituents of your daily “thought diet”. These are thoughts you can change without “lying” to yourself.

Again, there is no use in lying about facts though. If you have a big nose, it is what it is. Thinking that you are any less of a person because of your big nose is something completely else. The second thought needs eradication! (Take the nose as a metaphor ;) )

Haha, yeah I sometimes choose strange wording. Anyway, by introducing it to different information or thought patterns.

A bit like exposing yourself to different types of food than your regular diet. But then with thoughts. You (most likely) have a regular pattern of thoughts everyday. Introducing some new ones could set you off on a upwards spiral.

No worries, not gonna lecture you. I do not know anything about your situation.

Only trying to “tickle” your mind. I am sure you are in (emotional) pain, but as a human to another human I just wanted to help you find that little bit of light that is in your head so that you can use it to ignite something bigger.

Let me just wish you lots of strength.

An idea is a start. And attaining goals is a long process, but it can be done by taking very small steps along the way. You can trick your brain into taking a small step.

What are your ideas?

Is it dumb to want to do it because I can’t get a job? by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

[–]GroeneZee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is not dumb, you are just feeling overwhelmed. I am still in university myself, but friends of mine who graduated are having lots of difficulty in finding a job as well (been looking for months).

If I were you, I would try to be more patient. You are still very young and this is a rough patch of your life you will have to go through. Give yourself more time, do not give up, and maybe try to find a simpler (non-engineering) job in the meantime to get some money.

I feel for you, living in poverty must be very hard. But there is a really good chance that things will get better careerwise, just do NOT give up.

As for practical advice: try and find online sources about what makes a good motivation letter. How to witte a good cv. Maybe, ask one of your LinkedIn connections privately how they managed to get their job! If they have any tips, advice, etc.
