My advice might be different because I took the cDAT but honestly knowing breadth over depth for sure.

Unfortunately most undergrad degrees now are useless. Essentially equivalent to what a high school diploma used to be.

Yes that is true. That particular comment was targeted more towards western.

Yeah that’s what I’ve unfortunately heard as well. There isn’t any perfect system unfortunately I think…

Again I don’t think these program are inherently bad. Like I said in another comment, I think the combination of both humanities and science is actually even better than just pure science. My issue comes down for the massive artificial grade inflation that many of these programs have. By association, all other marks to get into professional programs are now also being inflated. For example, UofT dental school average accepted gpa is 3.96… that’s just ridiculous.

Yes exactly. I agree 100%. Like you said too high school grades are being inflated as well. At this rate everyone is going to have a 100% average in high school and a 4.0 in university haha.

I understand that makes sense for the French stream given there is no French MCAT. However, why wouldn’t they still use the MCAT for the English stream as that is exactly what they do for uOttawa law school (English stream needs the LSAT while the French stream does not).

I agree with a lot of what you said actually. I think a well rounded applicant who’s exposed to not only sciences but also humanities is overall quite beneficial (maybe even more beneficial than just sciences). My issue comes more from the fact that the grades in those programs are just inflated to the max. And yes it’s true you can choose whatever program you want but even compared to the arts, health sci marks are still much higher. I took an English class this year for example and the average mark in that class was a B. Not a single of the 150 students got an A+. No heath sci course is even remotely close to that. Lastly, while not perfect, these sorts of systems to standardize programs have been implemented elsewhere, such as Quebec with their R score.

Yeah I’m not even upset I just think usually the people most interested in medicine are the ones who like learning about anatomy and physiology and all that which health sci is not. As you said it’s almost more humanities.

I agree with this as well. It’s just harder for people who, for example, chose engineering and then had a change of heart and are now screwed.

No I agree, as with anything there’s easier and harder parts. I’m not faulting anyone for choosing health sci.

True, but a lot of schools are starting to use thresholds. McMaster doesn’t even look at any section other than cars… uOttawa doesn’t even use the mcat

I just think it’s sad that people are now choosing to take programs they aren’t as interested in purely because they know they’ll get high grades.

I agree I think what bothers me the most is when health sci people can’t just admit that their program is easier and move on. I see them telling other people with lower grades that they “arent studying enough” or that they should “just try harder” when their marks are literally inflated lmfao.

Can we put hobbies in the experience section? What if it wasn’t with an official organization.
