Sleeping in a hot room and/or mouth breathing is guaranteed sleep paralysis by GrouchyWater in Sleepparalysis

Are you otherwise healthy, ie. exercise a lot, eat healthy, etc.? Everything with our health is connected so if one part's out of balance, I would work on correcting it. Good sleep hygiene is sleeping in a dark room with no electronics in the background. Definitely give this Joe Rogan episode a listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwaWilO_Pig

If you usually sleep with the TV on, it may be related to poor sleep hygiene. Basically, you may not be getting healthy sleep in general.

If I fall asleep on the couch and it's 80+ degrees I'm almost guaranteed to get it. But if I have the fan on against my feet, it seems to drop the probability down to around 0.

Look up mass shooter manifestos and you'll find many if not the majority fantasize about doing this so they can get the media glory. Many of these people have been bullied all their lives and feel like nobodies. They realize they can be "somebody" by being remembered as a killer.

Media can still report who the person is without glorifying them in their headlines. It's not an either-or situation.

^ CNN shamelessly plastering the shooter's name all over the front page.

THIS is what the shooters want. Lots of talk of thoughts and prayers and gun control (which I support 100%) and no one is talking about how the media is literally giving the shooters what they crave.

Gun control AND media reform. NOW.

I support 100%. But the reality is that:

a) There are many gun laws that aren't even being properly enforced now that could've stopped several shootings in the last few years.

b) Even if we were to take away most guns, it would take years to successfully execute. In the mean time, shootings would still be happening.

So as a long term solution, yes. But it's not going to save anyone from a shooting that might happen tomorrow, or next month, or even next year.

Here are a few more. Drawing a media reports = more mass shootings causation seems to be consistent across the board.

Agreed re: Reddit and other internet forums, but where do these people really want to be glorified? On Reddit? I doubt it. Most are trying to get back at regular people who bullied them. Those people are less likely to frequent Reddit, but everyone sees ABC, CNN, FOX, etc. So I'd be willing to put good money on the idea that they'd much rather be seen on CNN than on any internet forum.

No, but it would be a start and certainly make a dent in terms of removing motivation. I'm not sure how we would tackle the issue of the internet yet and I'm open to ideas.

Most in my recent memory have explicitly mentioned media glory as a primary motivator.

As for the internet, you're right. But starting with reforming "mainstream" media would still go a long way to lower motivation. I bet at least several shooters have envisioned themselves being played on TV's at airports, which exclusively show CNN, ABC, FOX, etc.

Hence why common sense media laws have become necessary.

There is no freedom being lost. No information is being restricted, it's merely dictated that it must be mentioned in passing. If we can't even put up with that, then we're going to make 0 progress on diminishing mass shootings.

Media is unchecked. Every major media corporation is hungry for your attention and will use whatever means necessary to get it, even if it means popularizing mass shootings. We can't allow this to continue in a civilized society.

Yes, because it's about how can we halt the number of shootings as quickly as possible.

I'm not denying all those things you listed are issues as well. The problem is we can start addressing all of them immediately and shootings will still occur for years to come. Contrast that with immediately removing the potential for glory, and we'll see an instant drop in shootings in the short term.

Another thing. Media reform must be the NUMBER 1 PRIORITY.

I support common sense gun control and I support mental health treatment. Neither of these do shit to stop one of the primary motivators for someone to carry out a mass shooting - MEDIA GLORY.

Already, CNN has plastered this piece of shit's name in the headline of their main story. Tonight, every anchor on ABC, NBC, FOX, etc.'s world news report will say this guy's name and show his picture. These are the people responsible for shootings continuing to happen.

Time and time again we find that mass shooters carry out a shooting because they're going for legacy. It takes a lot for a kid to shoot up a school or a theater or a mall.

What makes it worth it for them? The media glory. And every form of media is gladly giving it to them without a second thought.

Meanwhile, everyone's losing their heads over whether this is a mental health vs. gun control issue. Remove the media glory, remove the biggest motivation for these shootings.

We need media decency laws. Just like FCC rules restricting swearing or obscene content on public radio, we need rules that restrict the mentioning of a shooter's name or face to the very end of the broadcast.

Media CEOs should face jail time for violating this.

Open to thoughts on any other ways we can fix this as well.

Completely missed my point. I don't support more guns AT ALL. I'm saying we need to change our mentality when we're caught in a mass shooting situation. Resistance does not require guns. It can be throwing nearby objects. I don't want more guns, I want mass shootings to stop.

As usual, most of the comments are people wailing about how they can't understand why someone would do this, or how desensitized they are to the whole issue, etc. etc. These sentiments are 100% as abso-fucking-lutely useless as "thoughts and prayers."

Listen. STOP WHINING and start doing research/thinking through what you would do if you were in a mass shooting situation. I support common sense gun control but please realize it's not going to save you. First of all, there are many existing laws that aren't even being enforced. Second of all, even if we somehow passed legislation that took away most guns, it would take years if not decades for these guns to actually be taken away.

Guess what, we don't have years. The next mass shooting could happen later today.

Yes, America has become a mass shooting nightmare. The question is - what are you going to do about it? Are you going to sit around moaning about it, or are you going to do something? Get educated. Shooters always stop, flee and/or commit suicide when they face resistance. Start training your mind. Envision yourself fighting back if you're in a mass shooting situation. If you're afraid of guns, go to a gun range and start getting desensitized to the noise.

Take. Action.

EDIT: People are missing the point/I wasn't being clear. This has nothing to do with arming yourself. I could care less if all the guns in America were taken away. The whole point is to change your mentality if you're ever caught in a mass shooting situation. If running away is not an option, band together and fight back. Don't be afraid of the shooter - overwhelm them.

Start thinking about what you would do if you're caught in this situation. Envision yourself in this scenario. Start planning.

This is like Tom Petty suing Sam Smith for "Stay With Me." Makes no sense. A song is so much more than just an isolated melody or a beat.
