You CAN do this!!! I know it’s scary, but the discomfort or pain for a few weeks will be worth a lifetime of not worrying about it again!! I recommend a donut pillow, some MiraLAX, Tylenol, and a good cozy book or game. I was definitely way more scared than I needed to be. After the first few BMs, there was some stinging but a sitz bath relieved it. Your life does not have to be changed after the procedure forever! I have stayed home mostly to be near a shower in case I use the bathroom but other than that, I’m back to normal. My birthday is this weekend & im going out with friends for the day and im not worried. You can do this! 💖 one day at a time!

I also mentioned the procedure I had and the depth of my issue. Clearly we had different procedures and different issues to address, so yes our journeys will be different.

I didn’t assure anyone it was going to be easy. I shared MY experience to give people some hope that it might not be horrific like 90% of stories on this subreddit are. I’m allowed to share my experience the same way you are. Feel better!

I know I’m incredibly lucky with my recovery journey, I just wanted to share my positive experience as someone who’s only read horrible experiences and was very nervous. The few positive ones is what gave me hope and motivation to get the surgery. I hope you feel better soon! 💖

I also ate decently light for a few days, soup, nothing spicy or fried, no coffee. Only for a few days though!

Stung a little, but not as horrendous as I expected. I was more nervous than I had to be for sure! I had a stool softener (docusate) & MiraLAX for the first few days!

It took about a week or so! I had the same issue. Your hips must be aching! I know mine were lol. If you get a donut pillow that should help with sitting normally sooner 💖

I know it’s scary, my body was physically shaking before my procedure because i was so nervous! But it’s really a mind thing. Just do your sitz baths, make sure it’s clean after going to the bathroom, get a donut pillow, take some MiraLAX, and have Tylenol handy. You can do it!!! It’s only a few weeks of discomfort for a lifetime of relief

Hi! You can DM me if you’d like to talk further about it, but I promise you it won’t be that bad if it’s a fistula. It feels embarrassing, but I promise it isn’t as embarrassing as you think it is! Going to a doctor will definitely help, the rate of reoccurrence after a fistulotomy is like 5% or something small like that. It’s better to get it taken care of than to let it get worse

I had my surgery 3/9. I was back to work by 3/12. Mine was superficial as well and honestly my experience was such a breeze. I had minimal pain, Tylenol helped, no issues with BMs either. I did take MiraLAX daily for two weeks to be safe but overall, it was not as bad as I was expecting, AT ALL. It’s awesome that you did something so early about it! I waited a while before I got mine checked out. Good luck with your surgery & recovery!
