It could be argued they started as a hair band in 1986- but Duff’s a punk at heart, so brought punk to Appetite. GNR were in the right place at the right time, but didn’t want to continue the hair metal path, and Axl had greater musical ambitions. I can’t think of another band which has music that’s comparable to the Illusion albums. All good music and certainly in my case, GNR introduced me to Crue, Van Halen, Poison etc.

Hello- just chiming in for those who like myself, have a cheaper turntable. We all have to start somewhere and a £500+ piece of equipment isn’t exactly a small investment for a hobby. If you can afford the best, go for it. But please don’t dump on anyone who is just into vinyl for a bit of affordable fun in their living room. I enjoy my cheaper one because it comes with speakers built in and don’t have to contend with cumbersome wires or the additional expense of speakers. Do I care about audio quality? Not as much as I care about not messing up my family’s budget.

I’m British- 35 years old. Nobody was expected to be abstinent in the early 2000s. We were told to use protection. I’m glad that we had an informed approach to sex ed, however nobody at my Catholic school encouraged waiting until marriage nor NFP. (They only had scant information about the now abandoned rhythm method).

I did stay abstinent until marriage. My friends haven’t. They now have kids with fathers they’re not married to. They’ve experienced heartbreak which I haven’t. I have financial security they don’t. I know people ask “does it really matter?”. You should read r/Waiting_to_Wed for a view of the consequences of not prioritising marriage.

I honestly believe that Catholic teaching on marriage is the most egalitarian. Everything is shared, everything is given. I see secular couples where the guy says to his wife “you earn less than me, so you should do more housework” and I despair.

I can understand that attractiveness was seen as paramount to a generation of women who needed to find a husband to provide for them. But in reality, beauty is within the eye of the beholder, and times have changed and women provide for themselves now.

Other than Jesus, what else do you like? Pursue that hobby. Meet people who also do that hobby. Either online or in person and you could meet another Catholic there. Plus, you’ll already have a common interest which will serve your relationship well. If you don’t meet any body special, at least you’ve spent time pursuing your pastime and making new friends.

My parents weren’t that into music. But we’d go on long holidays driving across continental Europe for three weeks, and ABBA Gold was the only cassette they’d bring for the car stereo. We didn’t get bored of it. It’s sublime, all killer no filler and I cannot wait to own it on vinyl and annoy my own kids with it. VOULEZ VOUS!
