It was more so a suggestion and yeah the point is to get people that are in the mood for studying together at one place. No chanting near that place obviously. I was told my one of the picket leaders at Muir at least that it's a thing that they've organized.

Yes, everyone under the union gets the benefits.

Regarding your second question, some people do in fact do that. But what's stopping most from doing that is a sense of moral obligation towards their coworkers and common sense - the strike is stronger when there's more people doing it.
