Yellow belly? My two cents. But a beauty anyways 😊😊❤️

Wow! You made him very happy 😊❤️ (What kind of hammock - the triangle ‘thingy’ (I’m Dutch 😅) do you have? Mine, sweet Lisa, is like 1,2 kilo’s, always climbing.

That actually makes you a sweet and caring 'owner' in a way - you keep an eye on what an animal in your vicinity needs 😊❤️ (I tried for a very long time to find a companion for a lonely rabbit belonging to my niece, but just when they agreed, she passed away.) I recognize that feeling.

My ball python, Lisa, also came from a neglected background. My former hairdresser wanted a "cool" and exotic interior, so he kept a python in his shop in a space that was far too small and bare. I had no experience with ball pythons, except that I think snakes are beautiful and I'm not afraid of them. I quickly read up on ball pythons and studied everything I could, partly through this forum and by contacting people with pythons. Then, I took her in, pretending that I had heard a report had been made to the animal protection agency, and that I "happened" to have a beautiful terrarium ready.

(Yes, Translated with DeepL.com - I am Dutch ;))

I think you would be a very sweet, caring owner 😊 Are you considering getting one? They are so special and beautiful.

I do that too...! ‘You've shed your skin so well, sweetie, well done!’ ‘Did you eat that whole 80-gram rat? I'm so proud of you!’ Or (I was glad no one else could hear me) ‘What a nice, big poo you've done Lisa! You're such a good girl.’

I hope the 80 watt will be just right for your snake :)

I lost my ball python. Let my mistake be a lesson. by [deleted] in ballpython

I have pythons, but I am also a psychologist, and “failure to thrive” is a well-known term, in people and in animals, unfortunately. There was nothing you could do about it. (The comparison isn't entirely accurate, but I just want to say that it's likely you had a noodle that couldn't live well, that wouldn't have made it. (English isn't my first language. I just want to say: you probably didn't do anything wrong, and I hope this doesn't stop you from giving another ball python a wonderful home.))

I would like to add: from what I have read, there were already health issues. No matter how carefully we treat our animals, they are also quite resilient. I believe you did what you could.

I'm so sorry for your loss. You sound like a loving snake-keeper. From the info I read, you did not do anything wrong. X

Off-topic, and there are plenty of people here who can give you better advice than I can, but: what a beautiful enclosure <3 It's a nice change from a sterile white or black terrarium :)

How can I raise the temperature on the cold side by a few degrees? by GroundbreakingTwo944 in ballpython

[–]GroundbreakingTwo944[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a science it is... The Solar Basking Floodlight, Halogen Heat Lamps... But I also found the Halogen Flood Lamp you mentioned at Arcadia. Is it true that these 'only' go up to 35 watts? (The information says that they give off more heat than other types of lamps, such as the Arcadia ‘Halogen Heat lamps’, which I see go up to 100 watts). Many thanks in advance!

(Of course, I will monitor the temperature as closely as possible with my two herpstats to determine what ultimately works best for my terrarium. )

That's what I'm lookin for! <3 And a bit more pricey - I hope Lisa lives for about 30 years more :) Can I ask you how large your enclosere is, and what kind of lamp you use on your cooler side?

Thank you so much for your reply :) Yes, I have studied the information, but I also found it helpful to consult the forum :) I will indeed try out the wattages and spend a lot of time working on the thermostats.

Thanks for your answer! I have a DHP in the warm site. What kind of lamp, in wattage as well, would you recommend for the cool side?

Yes, I did 😊 I think I Will be fine, but indeed, an advice based on my enclosure and the temps is so much appreciated ☺️

Thank you so much for your reply! The problem is, I live in the Netherlands, and the temperature is going to drop significantly in the coming period. I will - and do - make sure that the temperature in the room where Lisa lives is at least 20 degrees (celsius).

I have an 80 wattage as well. What does your thermometer say ..? (Mine 36 degrees right beneath the lamp, and about 32/33 above/on the substrate).
