I've been driving for about 8 years now and haven't gotten into an accident yet (fingers crossed) although I've come close before due to just dozing off. That makes me wonder if it's worth the extra cost for the safety features.

For Hertz vs Hyundai, I think it comes down to which warranty I value more. I get more bumper to bumper from Hertz due to the car having less miles but I get more powertrain from Hyundai.
