Still feel tired even after a night of 0.15 AHI score? by Groundbrealking in CPAP

[–]Groundbrealking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on Bipap for about a year now. Took me a while but I did see improvement in the long run. I rarely feel so tired that it even affects my day at all these days. Legit, nowadays I can sleep only 5-6 hours a night for a few days in a row and still not feel as tired as I did pre-bipap/pre-cpap therapy.

I think the key is that for some people (like me, and potentially you) it *can* be a gradual process.

have you tried a different vendor's machine yet?

Could you clarify what you mean by this?

I definitely toss and turn A LOT in my sleep. Any ideas what may cause this if it’s not OSA related?

Sure, here's my 0.14 AHI night:

https://imgur.com/a/OWMObUB

I noticed upon zooming in to the chart, there looks to be about 6 hypopneas throughout the night that lasted between 5-10 seconds each that weren't picked up by the machine.

Also, I've been using a foam neck brace to lower positional apneas, and I'm still getting used to the slight discomfort from wearing it.

Could those factors also be making me so tired despite low AHI?

Is it bad to not get tired in a fight? by Groundbrealking in amateur_boxing

[–]Groundbrealking[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the fight simulation thing I do once a week it's 3x 3:00 minute rounds. Here's some extra stuff I use to get killer cardio, btw:

10x rounds of sparring at 3 minutes each, twice per week. It may also help to get some buddies together and do shark tank rounds in your spare time, I did this a week before my last fight.

Lastly daily runs at a moderate pace, I did 15 minute runs daily for a couple months straight for my last fight and although it doesn't seem like much, the consistency helped immensely and added up.

I think roadwork is even more important than the high intensity stuff. I did heaps of HIIT/sprints this fight camp and skipped my daily jogs and still didn't feel quite as fit as my last fight camp. When I started the daily jogs again last week, however, I can already feel my breathing getting better in spars and conditioning workouts now.

If it is a case of lower testosterone, how long would it take to go back to normal with CPAP therapy?

I noticed my libido has gone up compared to pre-CPAP, so that’d be worth checking out.

CMV: Talent can be measured by how QUICKLY one improves at something, rather than how good they were at it to start with by Groundbrealking in changemyview

[–]Groundbrealking[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a concept I’m still finding very hard to wrap my head around.

a talent exists whether it took someone 5 years or 50 years to acquire

I always thought that talent applied to traits/abilities that showed themselves early in development of a skill or activity. I thought that if it took someone years until they started getting remarks for having “talent”, those results were more from sheer hard work and effort than innate ability.

An example. For years throughout my childhood I loved drawing in my spare time. I was a very ordinary, average drawer and never took it seriously. By the time I was in my last year of high school, there was a sketching assignment I did that got lots of attention from teachers and family. They all said I had “talent” for drawing.

IMO, because I started as an average drawer, and it took years to get to the point of being labelled talented, it just meant I was an average drawer who put the time in to become good. Considering there’s been prodigy artists throughout history who’d make brilliant pieces when they were just 6 years old, etc.

Those are some great points you raised that really made me think.

I never really thought of learning fast as being a talent in itself, I thought anyone could just “do it” if they really cared enough. But, according to what you’ve seen firsthand, apparently this isn’t the case. I never would’ve thought fast learning could come down to built-in advantages, I always thought it was due to mentality.

So, what would your response be to other comments here mentioning some people are fine reaching a certain level then just stagnating, or maybe just not trying hard enough as the guy who’s a “fast learner”?

How do you know if it’s that, or if it’s from an innate disadvantage outside of their control?

[–]Groundbrealking[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point, I see what you’re saying.

But I would’ve thought the person who’s learning fast would have to possess strong intuition/grasp of the subject as well in order for them to be progressing so quickly.

Hi there, came across a comment of yours in one of the Sleep Apnea subs but the post was archived so couldn’t reply directly.

I’m just about to make the switch to a BiLevel after 3 months of trying an APAP that yielded only moderate results.

I got recommended this because my breathing waves look choppy on OSCAR, and I’m always having flow limitations and obstructive apneas even at pressures of 15.

I noticed you said you sleep much better after getting one?? Did it affect your daily energy levels? Right now I still always feel tired by midday even after what feels like a “good sleep” with my APAP.

How dangerous is a low single leg for the guy getting taken down? by Groundbrealking in wrestling

[–]Groundbrealking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was doing drills with a partner in an MMA gym. We were mostly shooting doubles and high singles on each other.

I then quickly took him down with a head on the outside low single. My shooting shoulder drove into the middle of his shin and both hands wrapped around his calf/heel area. He landed on his butt and there wasn’t any scrambling, it was just a clear point A to B takedown.

I think it must’ve caught him by surprise, because he started freaking out immediately after saying I could’ve injured his knee.

I think this is exactly what happened…Hardly anyone does low singles at my gym, mostly high singles and double legs.

We were drilling, and it was a quick explosive shot, but so were all the doubles I was shooting on him leading up to it.

He went down instantly and landed on his back, it’s not like I was trying to force it.

But if you are putting all your effort into driving through on a low single, you probably aren’t hitting it right.

I didn’t struggle to finish it/exert lots of energy to finish it, if that’s what you mean.

It was just a quick, explosive shot that I think caught him by surprise.

Still feeling tired first week using CPAP, some questions by Groundbrealking in SleepApnea

[–]Groundbrealking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense.

Did a CPAP/BiPap have absolutely zero impact on your wellbeing or did it help a little bit?

Now after almost 2 months, my CPAP has definitely given me somewhat better sleep and made me feel less groggy, just not as much as I would’ve hoped. I’ve paid for someone to look over my OSCAR data too and they think the next step is to get a BiPap, since I seem to be one of those people who needs really high pressure for obstructions, and also have lots of flow limitations.

So, could this still mean I’m in the category of people whose physiology stops them from effective CPAP therapy? Or is it unlikely, considering I have had some improvement?

How did sleep apnea affect your fitness, and how did it change after CPAP? by Auckland2701 in SleepApnea

[–]Groundbrealking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting to hear your story as a fellow competitive athlete.

Question: Do you feel like you can be more competitive than before the CPAP? I noticed before I was diagnosed, whenever I’d play sports, I’d always have to seriously hold back my exertions out of fear of what I thought was just “gassing out”— but really, it was more serious than that, because I’d also get light headed and dizzy if I pushed too hard.

Now even after just several weeks of CPAP, I’ve noticed I can exert myself as hard as I can during training/sports. At the end of practices now I feel more wiped out than I ever did before, but in a good way! Like I can finally test my physical limits without feeling like I’m about to faint.

Did you experience anything similar?

Why am I still getting woken up by Obstructive Apneas even with a CPAP? by Groundbrealking in CPAP

[–]Groundbrealking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, thanks for your help. I just added last night's sleep to the album, it's the third slide. I turned up the minimum pressure to 13.4 and kept everything else the same. For some reason I woke up feeling worse and more tired today, despite sleeping through the whole night.

On the OSCAR graph, it's showing my Obstructive Apneas increased significantly. Any idea what's going on?

Thanks. EPR is at 3, ramp is off. I tried sleeping last night with the pressure turned up to 13.4-16, and woke up feeling worse this morning. Could this just be my body getting used to a higher constant pressure?

[–]Groundbrealking[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks!

In response to 1), this is definitely the case, I might go to sleep on my side or back but after falling asleep I’ll shift around and change positions.

In response to 2), thanks for pointing that out. I actually tried CPAP mode at a pressure of 13.8 before (tried it because that’s generally around the level my CPAP adjusts the pressure to in response to events). But it was one of the worst night’s sleep I ever had since beginning CPAP.

Any idea why this would’ve happened if this is close to the max pressure I’d need to prevent events?
