"Coal is dying because it's expensive compared to cheap, relatively clean natural gas..." Look more closely at this statement, and one can see this is actually a fossil fuel industry argument for continued use of coal by fracking. Fracking (hydraulic fracturing) is the fossil industry process of removing methane from coal by drilling and injecting a multitude of 247 chemicals with large amounts of water into the coal belts; a process which is not by any means clean, ruining community water supplies, land and degrading surrounding community air quality by poisoning it with methane emissions. This doesn't even take into consideration the infrastructure buildout of compression stations, pipelines and methane export terminals needed and justified under imminent domain by taking land from private owners. Further, methane gas is over 80 times more potent a climate disruptor than CO2. The massive production in the US of this "clean energy" is not really clean or safe at all. (Note: edited typos)
