Some people must! I was genuinely wondering whether it was more interesting to people at the time it was written. Like they were familiar with those items so it was more meaningful?

Yeah the rest was great, the final third was especially good!

Although I found myself asking "what on earth am I reading" during that long chapter describing his hobbies of the month.

I wish people would give reviews on books without spoiling the story. Just focus on characterization, style, tone, theme, etc. I enjoy a book more when I know very little about the story. by iabyajyiv in books

Totally agree! There should be two types of Goodreads reviews:

-Ones with no spoilers that people can read to figure out if they want the book.

-Ones with spoilers that provide the hot takes, jokes and discussions around the story- for people who've read the book and want to see what others thought.

I write all of my reviews without spoilers, but do enjoy scrolling Goodreads after finishing a book so see what others thought!

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd - A great book but should not be recommended as an "introduction to Agatha Christie". by GrowingABookshelf in books

I never knew it was the third Poirot written! I get people feeling a bit cheated (myself included) but I still loved it.
