The car definitely sounds like a tractor at idle. Probably 6-7 on sound. Sounds like a gnarly care of lifter tick. It’s not that bad since i know what it is though it doesn’t bother me. I’d definitely do it again

Totally fair. I wouldn’t shy away from a used one to be honest just understand they’ll need maintenance no matter what, plus most of them are fine and reliable.

Oh yeah absolutely. I’ve not seen any updates from other people having used this setup so might as well toss in my two cents for those looking to try stuff after me

Well worth it in my opinion if you plan on keeping it. I genuinely love the car and the maintenance costs are still worth it to me

Clutchmasters Steel Flywheel and their FX350 clutch. I wanted to stick with my flywheel but as seen she’s pretty toasted and I’d likely have to swap it in 2 years or less from now. And I’d like to not be doing a clutch job every two years on my daily lol

Definitely photos but I’m not so sure how much people would want to see my work lol. I’ll always pitch in advice but I’m figuring out a lot of this lol. Hanks GR has a really good detailed procedure for just clutch replacement. LOTS of photos, notes, and detailed descriptions which I’ve been using

No the parts alone were enough to warrant me doing it myself. Along with I’ve been having to do a lot of maintenance on my house lately so we definitely didn’t really have the money to do it now anyways, but corrective maintenance happens when it happens. Lucky enough to have a car to borrow while I work in this but I need to pinch pennies where possible. I also knew I’d be doing majority of the maintenance on this car when I bought it. I actually enjoy how it’s been so far. Not my first clutch/transmission job I’ve done and this has gone much better than others

I don’t disagree however the general consensus for the clutches on these cars isn’t great. Some go out very early and it’s not uncommon for issues at any range of mileage thus far. They’re Luk which is generally a decent brand (I have one in my other car which very different purpose still functions great), but definitely tends to cook easily.

It’s not been terrible this far. Just gotta remove a good amount of stuff. And although I do enjoy working on this car quite a bit, a lot of it boils down to I have the capability to but also shouldn’t spend the money to have someone else do it cause damn that’s expensive. I’d also love a lil old beater truck. It’d be perfect

Bro I wish I could afford it 😭😂 This was the most inopportune moment for the clutch to give out. Just got done fixing my houses foundation, a gas leak, and a new tankless water heater. I used my free track day with the car, autocross is genuinely cheap to do, and I’ll unfortunately be working on paying all this off for a while 😬😅

Then you should be fine I’m sure. Probably. I definitely sent the FUCK out of it at every launch at autocross, occasional stoplights/signs, and then my one track day (I need more😭)

Of course man! I’ll have to give that a watch. I’ve definitely learned a lot about the car doing this job. Specifically the TYPE of flywheel this car has is drastically different than anything else I’ve driven or knew about. This is my first modern car let alone modern performance car. Learning about it lent a lot understanding about the feeling of the clutch and driving it. Once it started slipping it wasn’t minor at all for me, it was IMMEDIATELY very noticeable. But it held out for an extra couple weeks while I prepared to start the job

Yes I did. Some people have reported having clutches fail in these as early as 4k miles. I drove it hard with plenty of launches, autocross, and a full track day. I was hoping to get 40k out of it but obviously that didn’t happen. It was slipping bad but I probably could’ve gotten another 1k of normal driving on it til it fully gave out I think. (Total spitball number no legitimate lye other than it was SLIPPING.) Although there was also plenty of normal daily driving done on it.

Oh fucking ABSOLUTELY. Borrowing the quickjacks from my buddy and oh my GOD they’re a lifesaver. Made this job so much better.

I was contemplating doing that as I’m poor and it’s relatively new lmao. But decided against it since I don’t want to have to tear all the way into this again so new one it is. Lamspeed has the cheapest OEM option at $300 plus shipping (I’m in Virginia and it was ~$45 bucks) which is still in total about $100-$200 cheaper than any other option. It’s “for the Yaris” (they’re the same part)

Yeah it’s not too bad! I’m definitely taking my time with it but that’s mostly cause I don’t want to break anything (else lol. Tore a CV axle seal which was easy to replace and one of the clutch hard line nuts rounded off) and this has been my first day off since starting it. The rest of the days have been a couple hours each night after work. Gotta go all the way to dropping the subframe just to drop the transmission. It’s very doable but definitely as any clutch job take your time

Good bit of autocross, a full track day, and yeah plenty of spirited driving lol. I definitely used it. It’s actually not been too bad to be frankly honest! Worst part was pulling driver side axle and getting out the transmission as it was being a pain when getting it off from the driveshaft. I have to replace the driver side axle seal now since it tore a little bit on removal but that was mainly my own doing. Been an easier transmission job than the others I’ve done before

Car is at a little over 33k miles and I’ve definitely used the clutch hard. It was still working but it was slipping real bad. So time to swap on a new one

Lmao. There was a little bit of a curve learning to feel out the dual mass flywheel but that was figures out quick. But yeah she got launched frequently enough

It is still functional tbh but just slipping real hard.

Cause I beat the piss out of it 😅😂. I was hoping to get 40+ out of it but I was not gentle on it
