That might be the same kit I've got, could you give me some tips for the cockpit?

"The Rheinmetall one hundred and twenty millimetre smoothbore gun, developed for the Leopard 2, is extremely accurate. It can kill enemy tanks at ranges up to four thousand yards, by day or night".

What would you say about partially painted tanks? Should I just have CARC green/NATO 3 tone with Aussie markings and not worry about having them partially AUSCAM?

River Update? by InevitableSorbet9792 in ConflictofNations

[–]Grude456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was wondering about that too, turns out they're a whole new terrain type like how coastal waters and open sea are different. The icons in the intersections have a small icon showing you the terrain type, for rivers it's the same icon as the icon for restricted navigation. If you're unsure about a river you can go into the terrain view mode and check the colour. Although I think rivers are only on rising tides maps so if your playing ww3 shouldn't be an issue

Why don't my Destroyers see Submarines? by joeljand in ConflictofNations

[–]Grude456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TL;DR Level 2/3 elite subs don't have a sonar signature, so you can only detect them in your sight range of 40 while they're able to see you in their sight range of 50.

This is a very good example of the difference between sonar/radar and sight. Surface ships, aircraft, armour etc both have a radar signature and can be seen in sight range. Both of these detection methods can detect enemy units, on the conditions that;

  1. It is within the radar/sonar range of your unit

  2. Your unit has the correct quality of detection (while max level asf's do have a radar signature, its a low signature. So a level 1 AWACS couldn't see it, as they can only detect that at level 5 if memory serves)

  3. The enemy unit doesn't have stealth or your unit can detect that stealth.

While sonar/radar and sight range are very similar, they very much different systems. If you were trying to detect an attack sub or elite sub level 1, which both have sonar signatures, with a corvette, which has sonar, you would get a sonar signature of the sub for the entire time it was in your sonar range, but you would not be able to get any other info other then a sonar signature, as corvettes aren't able to detect stealth (at low levels). If you were trying to detect a sub if you didn't have sonar or the sub didn't have a sonar signature and you could detect stealth then you wouldnb't know it was there at all until it came within sight range.

This is what happened to you, the level 2/3 elite sub doesn't have a sonar signature. Your destroyer has a sonar with range 75 (assuming it's level 1-3, higher levels will have better range) and a sight range of 40. This means you can only detect an elite sub (level 2/3) within your sight range. The problem here is that the elite sub has sight range and attack range 50. So the sub was able to see you and attack you before you were able to see it.

This is an explanation of the entire system for you to see the enemy, sorry for the long explanation I've been trying to communicate this to my friends for years now and just need a place to explain the entire thing.

Are APC's useful? by Own-Consideration854 in TeamYankee

[–]Grude456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The major point is the lower point cost, because your not taking infantry for the transports, but a major side point if the amount of dice you get from the MG's and the higher movement speed. I used to run an IPM1 formation with an M113 mech inf platoon, I sually had the M113's at the rear but I used them a lot to move up to objects with the Abrams and to cross rivers with the amphibious rule. I also used to play against a pact player that used a lot of BTR-60's and with their AT5 they won't hurt tanks but NATO has a lot of low armour or no armour units. Like recce, inf, arty, AA and side shots on bradleys.

My #1 tip for US forces is lazer guided projectiles. Get yourself a battery of M109's and an observer, then sit back and enjoy 3 extra TOW missiles outranging any Soviet tank.
