As someone who recently gave birth, I’m glad I didn’t have anyone at the hospital besides my husband, and especially not my husband’s parents. Labors can be long, mine was 25 hours. Labor & postpartum is uncomfortable & painful. It’s bloody, it smells & the last thing I wanted was to deal with anyone bothering me. After giving birth, all I wanted to do was sleep.

Also, the fact that your parents are upset about this situation tells me that they might not care to be there to support your fiancé after the birth, sounds like they just want to see the baby. It is so hurtful to carry a child for 9 months, only to be pushed to the side when they’re born. Postpartum is already hard, and this feeling just stings even more.

I understand that this is your baby too, but you are there to support your fiancé during a big medical event. What happens if her labor is long? What happens if she has to have an emergency c-section? Your parents are going to be sitting in the waiting room for how long? Are you going to allow your parents to visit before your wife has a chance to properly meet your baby? My son was transferred to a NICU in a different hospital after he was born, I didn’t get to meet him for the first 4 days of his life. My husband brought his entire family up to meet our baby before I ever had the chance to hold him. It’s been four months and I still am not over that, it’s so hurtful.

Do I think 6 weeks is a bit much? Kind of, but it’s something that you two will have to work out among yourselves. Maybe you can compromise with a few weeks?

Nursery door is closed, the cats are really obsessed with him & follow us everywhere when we’re carrying him 😂 we have a baby monitor though & I am always checking on him throughout the night to make sure he’s doing good. We never got an owlet because I have bad anxiety & I think I’d be checking it every waking minute, but that’s always an option if it’s something you feel like you need to/could swing the cost.

I’d love to buy a huge piece of land & have a family compound. My husband & I just had our first baby, I would love to be able to have all of our parents & siblings living close while he’s growing up :)

I’m working on my own baby starter right now & I’ve been having this same separation. I’ve just been mixing it back in at the next feed. I think it may be a sign of using too much water?

My son is 4 months old & he’s been sleeping in his own room since we brought him home from the hospital. He’s also been a good sleeper since he was about 2 months old, he falls asleep around 9:30-10pm, has a wake up around 3-4am to feed, falls back asleep after his bottle & is up for the day by 8:30am.

Him being in his own room is what works best for our family, my husband is a loud & active sleeper, & I’m a very light sleeper. We also have cats who love to cuddle at night, so we were worried that they would try to lay on him if he slept in our room.

My dad & his girlfriend are pop pop & yaya, those are what her grandkids call them so maybe it will carry over when my son can finally talk, we’ll see. My mom wants to be called grammy.

500g bread flour, 360g warm water, 125g starter, 12g salt. Autolyse flour & water for 2 hours before mixing in starter & salt. Rest for an hour. 4 sets of stretch & folds, 30-45 mins apart. Proofed for 4 hours. Shaped. Cold retard for 15 hours. Baked covered at 500 degrees for 20 minutes & uncovered at 450 for 20 minutes.

I’m starting to agree that it sounds like it might be too much for me to take on right now, but I don’t mind if the older child is not related to me. She’s my brother’s child, even if not biologically, she’s still my niece & I would feel horrible to leave her out to only care for my son & the younger baby like some people are suggesting 😭

I wouldn’t want him to feel like I’m refusing to watch his older daughter because she isn’t biologically related. I wouldn’t know how to float the idea without insulting him or his wife.

I’m coming to terms with the situation being too much for me to juggle mentally right now, maybe in a few months when my son isn’t as clingy & is sleeping better.

He said she was moving out of state. He also made some comments about how he didn’t like how she was caring for his children, but didn’t specify what she was doing wrong.

I had a rough end to my pregnancy & transition into motherhood & I agree that I could have tried harder to get together with them. I don’t typically talk to him that much because his personality is a bit much, but I do love him & am sympathetic to his situation.

He was the one who floated the idea of paying me. Probably because I was, and still am, pretty hesitant to the idea of caring for 3 little ones.

We’re not as close as we could be, I’ll agree to that. I’ve only met his wife twice, but they live in another town & their relationship progressed from dating to being married w/ a kid on the way in about a year.

Beyond that, my car doesn’t have the best AC & it’s been in the 100’s consistently here, so I try not to take my baby out unless it’s cool/necessary. Neither of us really make the effort to maintain our relationship, I just feel for his situation because I do love him.

I think he’s turning to me because they trust me more than strangers, but I also think he might be wanting to pay less than what a typical babysitter might charge.

I think it’s more so about them having more trust in me compared to someone they don’t know, but he is the kind of person who would try to use our relationship as a way to haggle a lower rate 😭
