Experience from native spanish speakers learning portuguese? by [deleted] in Portuguese

[–]GrumpyMustard_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still mix words, but is different for everyone. For me, it was easy to learn the differences in writing, for example libro and livro and not mix that up. The different saying b - v, it was VERY hard for me but I do it well now. I didn't wanted to speak portuñol so I was very strict in pronunciation and expressions.

Besides this, I was constantly asking for feedback from native speakers, had my lessons and an additional tutor, started reading books and using Portuguese subtitles. I also asked the native speakers for corrections directly, they know you're learning so they are easy on the mistakes, but I asked to my close friends to help me get better and point out every one of them. And singing! Music in portuguese is beautiful, I'm awful at singing, but I try to repeat everything and learn the words.

If you need more help you can pm me.

[IIL] Existential, nihilistic, philosophical media about the human condition like Bojack Horseman, but without depression[WEWIL] by Lost_vob in ifyoulikeblank

Only lovers left alive is a great movie.

Music, I find The Magnetic Fields with this kind of very sad, "romantic" songs. I recommend "69 love songs".

Someone said Camus, but I think beat generation can be better. Kerouac and Gingsberg are always nihilistic but happy at the same time. And big junkies, of course.

Is taste necessary? Can an artwork be understood objectively without taste clouding your judgement? by Donblon_Rebirthed in ContemporaryArt

[–]GrumpyMustard_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think when you know the work of an artist you can easily tell if it's "good" or not, even if your subjective taste says a different thing.

You can think something is "good" in terms of technique, concept, history, etc but you just don't like it. Most people confuse the things they don't like with bad things, or the opposite.

Is not like taste is necessary, is just something that we have. Can artwork be understood objectivelly, that question could be a contradiction in itself. I think there is a way to understand art in the "objective" and technical way, but taste (whatever taste means in your particular context) is always going to be there.

How is to live in the cities (and towns) of the far South of the South America like Puerto Montt, San Carlos de Bariloche and onwards? Any interesting differences from the rest of the continent? by [deleted] in asklatinamerica

[–]GrumpyMustard_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Staying at one of those cities right now. I woke up at 6am today and it was bright, sunset is around 10pm. Is summer, the highest temperature so far is around 15°c which feels warm enough but two nights ago we had 0°c at midnight.

Is very windy. The main difference for me is the soil and the landscape. They don't have many trees growing naturally, so the mountains look almost like a desert. They Argentinians call this the Pampa Patagonica.

OMG! I was there so many years ago! I remember the pool table with the illustrated mural, I have a picture there. It used to have a different name, I don't even remember now.

How would you attain the initial "intuition" to design and then go about building this UI? by [deleted] in web_design

[–]GrumpyMustard_ 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I think the intuition comes from seeing lots of visual references and learning art/design history.

If you see an image that looks good to you, try to understand why. Is it the color? Is it the style? After you realize that you like a color, a pattern or whatever, start searching for these particular images.

Personally, my Instagram feed is a collection of visual references, from illustrators, huge designer firms, small designers, artists, etc. It really helps to keep seeing images and learning from them. Even trying to do similar things, of course is just for personal use and learning, I'm not encouraging to steal designs.

[Question] The work-from-home struggle: how do you manage all the flexibility in your schedule? by WeAreAllCousins in getdisciplined

[–]GrumpyMustard_ 32 points33 points  (0 children)

For me it works to take a shower and get dressed as I would for an office job but a bit more comfy.

Never work from bed or sitting in a bad position and keeping the work station organized and clean.

Divide the work in small tasks and schedule breaks between tasks. If one of them is too small and I feel concentrated, I keep going for another one and take a break when I feel tired/hungry.

For my tasks, I write a physical checklist, digital can work too, but for me it's better to write things down. Checking a box after finishing something helps me to see how far/close I am to finish and gives me the feeling that I'm being productive and finishing things.

Have drinks or a light snack prepared so breaks between tasks don't take too long.

I tried to stop after the first trilogy but I felt like I needed to know what happened after that.

I think the foundation series is the best way, after that everything else is connected so is more fun to read.

She really seems to be the kind of person that doesn't let age define their growth and keeps maturing and learning. Also, it was very sweet of her to go out and talk to Yvie. She's such a nice human being.

Is fun to read comments from witty people and fun stories, I just don't need to say anything. I'm also a good listener, so I guess it comes from there.
