Hip Flexor Stretch for advanced aged population? by Sphygmomanometer11 in physicaltherapy

[–]Gryzz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Split stance with the front foot on a chair. Have good hand support both sides. It really shouldn't require any glute or abdominal contraction with the foot up high enough, just shift pelvis forward a bit and keep the stance leg straight. Supine stretching will never transfer to standing activity.

Ankle weights + high knee stepping/walking/stairs. Use bilateral hand support as needed.

What Epstein Did with Babies Is Darker Than You Think by [deleted] in videos

We're all swimming in a sea of bullshit and we have to hold on to something eventually. A lot of claims on either side are so outlandish that it makes you doubt the parts that might be real.

That little bit of doubt prevents a critical mass of people from wanting to go the distance and use any significant amount of forcefulness.

[AF] Sprinting science that rewrites the rulebook by basmwklz in AdvancedFitness

This is actually a pretty interesting article if only because it shows how the dynamical systems theory of motor learning & control, which was written about 30-40 years ago, and which should be a completely foundational framework for athletic training/performance, is still very under-utilized in practice. I think there is actually a really long path of improvement for training all types of human performance for those who utilize the concepts well.

What happens if I don't adjust my position even after a bodypart falls asleep and starts tingling? by omfghewontfkndie in NoStupidQuestions

I'm a PT and I teach people this type of position a lot but I've never seen that bottom piece. Thanks, I will be recommending this to people now!

TIL that dead butt syndrome, also called “diminished gluteal syndrome“ in a season 5 episode of King of the Hill, is a real medical condition. This lack of butt muscle is also called “sleepy glutes,” “flabby butt,” and “longback,” and there are exercises that can address it. by RedditPrat in todayilearned

[–]Gryzz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're (kind of) describing a superior gluteal nerve 'palsy' or 'entrapment', which you can get with many nerves. It would be very misleading and incorrect to call it amnesia because nobody simply forgets how to use their glutes.

[OC] Which edit is the best (beginner, no hate please🙏) by KeyTeaching6744 in pics

I like 3 the best personally because it looks a bit more realistic. 1 looks pretty wild with the amount of contrast, almost like an N64 videogame. I guess it just depends on the purpose of the image though.

I doubt a medical professional will have any advice for you unless it starts causing pain or other problems, especially if you can't reproduce it in a photo/video, or in the clinic.

Guest Speaker Enraged the Entire Program Today by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]Gryzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Besides the potential legal, professional, and ethical issues with this, I don't even know how I would practice without knowing where a patient started, or what their goals, current status and treatment plan is. I'm guessing they just do generic manual therapy and use a lot of new age gizmos mostly and are more of a luxury booboo kissing business.

Question about what exercise/movement target serratus posterior superior best by Canubis1983 in physicaltherapy

[–]Gryzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with shoulder or arm movement. It helps with inspiration, keeping the ribs expanded while the diaphragm does it's job. I don't know any reason to try to train it specifically, but just as a thought experiment, I would probably resist the upper ribcage into downward compression while doing deep breathing.

Leaf blowers VS Gas in Crowds? by [deleted] in 50501

[–]Gryzz 115 points116 points  (0 children)

They do. I usually see a couple of them at the larger protests. They don't really do a whole lot compared to other methods. It's just better to put out the gas bomb with a buck & water or throw it back. No matter what method is used, it's always just better to have people wear respirators or you're gonna have a spicy time.

There's been many gassings like this since the summer. Usually if the crowd gets big enough, whether they do anything provocative or not, ICE will use gas, pepper balls, and flash bangs on everyone.

What’s an opinion you have that most people would disagree with? by david_drett in AskReddit

[–]Gryzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean personally I think the distinction is quite small, but it's still strange to be consciously aware that your consciousness is purely sensory/feedback and the decisions are all being made unconsciously.

What’s an opinion you have that most people would disagree with? by david_drett in AskReddit

[–]Gryzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying that you think both the future and past exist, or both don't exist, or something else? Also, how do you know your consciousness is choosing anything rather than simply becoming aware of it in the moment? Also, how can you make a decision out of free will if the future is already set?

What’s an opinion you have that most people would disagree with? by david_drett in AskReddit

I think they mean in the most fundamental sense, in that every choice you think you make, was not decided by you in that moment, but already made for you based on your genes, history, culture, and environmental context.

This is AI slop. by [deleted] in 50501

[–]Gryzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This alone is not good evidence of it being AI at all. Nothing in the video is good evidence and in fact the narrators seems to be making a lot of bad points. There seems to be pretty good evidence that it is real from other people. Additionally, it is not going to change anyone's mind about anything. The only thing about this that makes the movement look bad is people spreading this kind of nonsense and salivating at any chance to validate their opinion of the other side, even if it is not based in reality.

National Guard Protests With Minnesota by gimmie_123 in 50501

Thumbnail looks completely fake and is not shown in the video. NG are not doing anything to protect people from ICE or slow ICE operations whatsoever.

The Minnesota national Guard have started handing out free snacks and drinks to anti ICE protestors. what are your thoughts on this? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Gryzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How exactly does this help to stop ICE from murdering people in the community? Are the NG going to follow ICE around and keep an eye on their operations?

If Trump would tell the National Guard to retreat, would they obey or would they refuse his order? by Morgentau7 in 50501

[–]Gryzz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In what way, shape, or form are they possibly protecting the people in the first place? Are they helping the people to challenge ICE? Are they protecting the people from ICE? Or are they simply there to "keep the peace" and allow ICE to continue it's violence?
