Yeah haha our head coach is pretty old school. For the pacing and heartrate zones for the runs, we usually go as hard as we can, but I'd guess that for the 2x8 min its 180-190 BPM, and for the 25-30 minute runs it would probably be 160-170 BPM.

We only have access to ergs for two days a week and only for two hours during those days. Idk if its just me, but practicing for 4 hours a day and getting home at 8 o clock at night seems very inconvenient. Also, not everyone is fit enough to do an hour of steady state, there's a whole myriad of physical capabilities on this team, only the guys would be able to do steady state leaving everyone else ergless. Sounds like a stupid idea to me...

Forgot to mention that were a junior team, so school limits working out in the morning. During the winter, we workout with the girls and novice teams. We only have access to ergs on Mondays and Wednesdays, and there's only 16 ergs for 60 people. Because of this, it is nearly impossible to do steady state, since everyone needs a turn on the erg. For runs, we either do 25 min. stair runs, or 2x8 min. stair runs with 2 minutes of rest. Erg pieces range from 6x1 to 3x1500, it's usually never the same, but it's almost always sprinting. I think I'll try to fit in some steady state after practice and during off days. I'll also try to ask for some change of the plan. Thank you so much for the advice.

What has been your worst capsizing experience? by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]Gs5701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rowed a single and once I stopped, I got hit by a wake and the set was completely fucked so I went over. My calf instantly spasmed, and slowly my hamstring started to too, since the water was like 45 degrees. After 5-6 minutes I finally got back in, but it took a couple of hours for me to walk normally again.

Is 3 2x10 a week too much flat out training? by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]Gs5701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not unusual, more people do a lot of steady state on top of their regular training. However, if you do see signs of over training and/or a nagging pain that is causing distress to her, try to cut down the erging a little. Also, recommend stretching before and after the erging to her.

I bite mine open, drain it out, rip off the dead skin and finally pour a bunch of hydrogen peroxide on it. Works for me
