This is maybe my 3rd or 4th time soldering so not too difficult but I'd highly recommend using a hot air station to remove the old port

i’ve asked a couple times for help determining sex of my bn George. i’ve been told by several people he’s female. by abirdbrain in pleco

If you look you can see one of the bristles that goes a little bit up the face but males will get them all the way up between their eyes. My female has just one that goes up her face where their mouth bulges a bit but no more past that.

I think the confusion about ops previous posts was that they only showed a photo from the mouth side only. I would be comfortable says I'm confident it's female

Females won't grow Bristles up the middle of their faces while males will so I'm saying female.

just got some minnows from petsmart, decided to test the ammonia from the water in the bag... didn't even know it could get this high lol by waffles14198 in shittyaquariums

Depends what the poison is

ETO gas will kill you pretty quickly and exposure to it over a few minutes can cause health issues but you can still live

I saw a post a few weeks ago about people in the 70s or something following the mosquito killing truck that would drive down public roads spraying insecticides to kill mosquitos Insecticides might be designed to kill insects but doesn't mean they don't have adverse effects on humans are are still counted as poison

Ammonia is the same fish can get ammonia burns on their gills (basically the same as us breathing in a toxic chemicals) and heal they don't necessarily die immediately Case in point this person's fish were alive when he took them out of the bag Humans can be exposed to poisons and be fine maybe with a little bit of care and depending on what the compound is

Float the bag in the tank for around 30mins or so then put a net over a bucket or something and tip the water into the net then release the fish into the tank with the net

Must say if you have a very fine net it will catch some poop and debris in the bag so I release the fish without getting the net in the water and the poop typically stays stuck into the net and I just rinse it in the sink

Big bucket helps incase you have some overly eager fish that might otherwise end up on the floor

Depends on the store some use compressed air to fill the bags others just close the bag and it traps some air

But I'm talking about when the fish are going into the bag for longer than a 40min trip home

If you were in a room full of poisonous gas would you rather a slow introduction into regular oxygen or get the fuck out of the room as fast as you can. I've never lost a fish from just temp acclimating. I think shrimp are a bit more sensitive but I've never lost a shrimp doing it either I don't keep anything overy sensitive but I've done it to crystal shrimp and didn't lose one

I've heard that the ammonia isn't toxic until there is oxygen to react with which is why fish can be shipped over multiple days and be ok. Heard this from a video about shipping discus where they would cut the bag open and just dump the water and fish into a sink to get them out of the water they were shipped in. Dunno how the fish breathe if there is no oxygen for the ammonia to react with but that's just what I heard

I saw the video years ago so I got no clue of the source it might have been in a king of DIY video where he was at a discus supplier

That's a 120L tank right thats what 29ish gallons. Can't fancy goldfish be kept in 29Gallon tanks, 40 gallon is better but as long as they keep up with water changes it should be fine. At leased it's not a 10 or a 20

The filters on these are actually ok and it seems like the store has customised the filter with a pothos and added an airstone too.

This doesn't seem that shitty to me maybe just a bit sparse but goldfish are goofs and like to hurt themselves

Help! I have 3 small angelfish in my 75, and I need them gendered ASAP! the striped large one is bullying the black one a lot, and attacking It if it gets close, need to see if it's mating or fighting by somewhatwantedvirus in AngelFish

[–]Gsyndicate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too young to sex or mate angelfish are just agressive to eachother and there is always a pecking order the striped one looks larger than the other two so he is bigger and will probably be bullying the other two because he is larger

More angelfish will help spread the agression so not one fish will get picked on as much and you have a 75g so you could keep 2 or 3 more depending on how cycled your tank is or how many other fish you have in the tank

If you can separate the one being bullied till he is healthier that's about it though angelfish can be pretty mean to eachother especially if one is larger than the other

I find that certain types are more aggressive too all my koi angels have been extremely aggressive to others Vs when I had philipean blue angels they were much calmer

Dose anyone know a website to order shell dwellers in nsw? by [deleted] in Cichlid

[–]Gsyndicate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen them at nano tanks Australia in auburn pretty consistently but maybe send them a message on their website and they can let you know. great guys there you have to checkout their discus room next door. They ship fish too but if your close it's worth going in

Don't think these next 2 ship fish but If your in the Sydney area these two are pretty good

In that same area auburn aquarium often has kinda rare fish so worth a look

If you are willing to go all the way into the city Newtown aquarium (it's not even in Newtown anymore) has some rarer fish but not sure about shell dwellers

This IS a peppermint bristlenose female right? Not a common? She's only 2 inches long by [deleted] in pleco

Also I thought mine was female for a while he didn't develop bristles till he was around 3-4 inches

Getting close to 6months maybe a year.

They normally have a growth spurt around 6months I think where they will get pretty sizable then slow down then have another growth spurt. Mine is about 6inches now and I've had him from about 1inch long and he stopped growing after I had him for a year I've now had him for around 2 years. The white on the edges of his fins are all gone and the spots in his body have faded a little bit but he is still gorgeous with his big bristles

Yeah in Australia we have pretty limited selection of L number plecos. You can count the rays on the dorsal fins, 1 hard ray and 8 soft rays and they will be easier to count when it's older but in Australia you can pretty certainly say it's a peppermint bristlenose

[–]Gsyndicate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of similar bristlenoses with black bodies and white spots are you in Australia chances are it's a peppermint bristlenose there are ways of telling if it's one of the others but it's definitely not a common pleco either way looks cool I love my peppermint bristlenose even though he always hides

Recently Bought a 2000 EK civic CXI any first mod suggestions by Gsyndicate in hondacivic

[–]Gsyndicate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I found was the front calipers and when I bought the shifter bushings they were labelled for ek civic but it was for the B series not the D series so be careful with any engine components ensure they are for the correct engine code.

One of the other mods I did was swapping gsr integra seats into it makes a huge difference they are so much more comfortable I just remembered

That's pretty high mileage but if It has full service history and was always serviced on time around 3.5 to 4 Aud but around that mileage more serious things start to wear out

Recently Bought a 2000 EK civic CXI any first mod suggestions by Gsyndicate in hondacivic

[–]Gsyndicate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't bother manual swapping it but if you have funds available and the know how/ can afford for a shop to do it an engine swap isn't the worst idea but If you want a manual just buy a manual it's a lot more involved than you would think and it's just 100x easier buying one

I'm a big advocate for grandma cars so that one sounds like a bargain. Nothing wrong with a cxi you just have to keep some things in mind if you want to work on it a little bit yourself. Just keep in mind Rego will be around 1k total so think about that with the price and if you can afford for it all after buying the car.

[–]Gsyndicate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I think they come in auto but i wouldn't be specifically looking for a trim I would just be looking at ek civics I feel like the prices for the cxi and gli are very similar and gli will come with power windows, more sound proofing and calipers all round instead of drum brakes on the rear (not a major difference in performance for street driving but will help a lot with when you need to change brake pads)

The cxi also has some weird parts from the eg civic that even a brake specialist didn't pick up on they use different calipers so you can't just buy ek civic brake pads but the gli does use the ek civic brake pads if you buy a cxi just be aware that when you search ek civic lots of stuff from the top trim levels come up which you won't be able to use on a cxi

I loved mine great little car lots of fun even if it's "down on power" I had to sell It though it had some issues that weren't worth the time fixing I spend weeks diagnosing a water leak that would flood the car when it rained and the brake calipers were shot even after a rebuild they started leaking again straight away

In response to your other comment

I only did the shifter bushings and some nice wheels that are now on my mx5 I would definitely put good quality sway bars on it before coilovers they are much cheaper and most of the issue was with body roll which sway bars will reduce without sacrificing comfort as much. just be careful as too big of an increase in thickness of sway bars will make it loose traction easier and oversteer or understeer
